Ubuntu Installation :: Edit ISO Image Before Burning To CD/DVD?
Jan 6, 2011I plan to make multi boot linux DVD, with help of SarduCD software, so, I have one question. configured Linux ISO image is not as I would like, I would like to change appearance and to add some softwares, in that way I will not have to change and install it every time I use live DVD in the future. I have now already installed 4 linux in one DVD but evey time I use it, I must change and install softwares, now I want to install on DVD the newest version of Ubuntu and Kubuntu, beside puppy and some other distros, and my question is: how to edit K/Ubuntu ISO image with aim that I don't need to change anything anymore after I burn it on DVD?
I suppose I should unpack and edit ISO image (add softwares and change appearance) and after that pack it again in ISO image. Maybe it is easier to burn Ubuntu to CD, to change and install what I want, into Live CD, and then to extract such Ubuntu to ISO image, then it would be ready to burn it together with other distros into DVD?

Jun 1, 2010I've bought Earthworm Jim 1&2 from gog.com thinking that i could play it on my old Pentium 2 computer running DOS.
The problem is the game requires it's soundtrack CD, which is suplied by GOG in the form an ISO image with a .inst file that acts as some kind of header(just like a cue file is to a bin image). It contains details about the tracks. But i have no ideea how to burn it. Brasero will burn it, but it's unreadable. K3B doesn't seem to like it.
DOSBox has no problem mounting this type of image, and the game works fine after i've mounted the image.
So the question is, how should i burn this type of file(ISO Audio Image with .inst header)?
I'll also post the contents of the .inst file

Ubuntu :: File Splitter Gui - DVD Burning Package That Splits Automatically?
Jan 9, 2011To back up the virtual machine, the 9Gb file needs to be split in half so that they can burn it to DVD Using lxsplit is pretty simple for me, but these people are completely terrified of a terminal. Is there a simple gui front end for lxsplit so that I can just put an icon on the desktop for them? I've looked around with no success.
Or is there a DVD burning package that splits them automatically? Brasero is on there but it doesn't seem to have that capability. This would actually be the best option, as they wouldn't have to bother with a manual split at all.
Ubuntu Servers :: Installing Package On Ec Image
Feb 5, 2011This is on a cloud instance of maverick 64bit.In using cloud init to install a package (also does not work manually) I receive the following error.issuing an update with --fix-missing also does not work. I do notice, however this is trying to hit ec2.archive. For iperf I don't know that it needs to be ec2 specific. To my knowledge this worked a few weeks ago. Also, where it is easy enough on a Desktop version of maverick to simply switch sources for the upgrades/updates I have not found how to specify a new url (i.e. Duke University vs. MIT) The repositories I am happy with just the location of the repositories.On this particular cloud image is it even safe to leave ec2 as it is a specialized stripped down image.

Thinking about replace original package I've reinstall the original. but after reboot when I clik "computer" o "network" icons in nautilus I get an error message like this.(translating) <Nautilus can't handle place "Computer" or "network">
Also I've seen when insert a media usb storage, I can't see in nautilus that device mounted, and also in /media is not present...Ok I know I has been too much superficial... but now It's really annoying problem..
Slackware :: Install GRUB Via The .txz Package And It Created A Mirrored Image Of The /boot Folder?
Jan 6, 2010In light of my previous achievement in wireless networking, I've decided to create a larger issue for myself to solve. Which hopefully I can get some help with. Because my system is totally kisspoped up, for those of you who get what that means. I was trying to install GRUB via the .txz package and it created a mirrored image of the /boot folder. Which for some reason contained the / folder. Which in turn held /boot and all the other folders / is expected to contain.
Now, trying to remove the extra /boot folder proved difficult, but once I finally was able to figure it out, I remembered I could removepkg and that would probably mend the situation. However, I was already 20-something percent through moving the files to trash. Now when I checked /, /boot was gone from there. Along with various other folders. SO! Apparently the /tmp/boot folder created was in reality the /boot folder, albeit in the wrong place and having the wrong contents. Somehow, one folder existed as two different versions of itself at the same point in time. Much as a Time Lord might. Deleting one made the other vanish with it.
Good news:I removed it via Thunar and it should be in the root user's trash /home and some other folders had yet to be trashed when I hit cancel, so I can still use some things Bad news:I never ran X as root, so I don't know if it HAS a trash folder I can only use things already started up because the binaries are gone, but the configuration files in /home are still there (although /usr/bin remains)
Ideally, there would be a big UNDO button somewhere in this long row of function keys. Reasonably, there should be some kind of restoration tool. Realistically, I think I'm going to have to reinstall the system, which wasn't easy in the first place due to my faulty disc bay which detects discs at will.

I have vlc 1.1.4 installed, using ubuntu 10.10, libdvdcss2 installed. for the rest of the video formats it seems to work fine. any ideas on what should I start debugging?

Feb 16, 2011I was given a forensic Image which I now know is a DD image of the drive (Vista) and am trying to mount the image or extract the image to another drive. I'm not sure of the extention type or if the image is a partition or the entire drive. I think it is the entire drive.
Is it possible to mount a DD image to a device. If I can't do that I just want to extract the files to run some programs against the drive. Can I view the files under Ubuntu or do I have to remove the drive and stick it into a Vista computer.
I purchased a second drive today and was hoping the command line would be something simple.
Or am I on the wrong track, should I be doing this all in a windows environment. The reason I picked ubuntu was because of the reporting tools.

When i tried to write the ISO file to the CD using Win7 burner first CD and also using Nero in the second CD.. Both the CD are not working.. It throwed some error while writing.. It simulates the burn, and when it starts burning it sometimes ejects the media and at other times just says that it cannot eject the DVD and that it has to be done manually. Ubuntu :: GUI Crashing And Burning?
Jun 3, 2011It started when I woke up to find that the Unity dock was misbehaving -- none of the icons were appearing, though there was something at the top that looked like a couple of the "flattened" icons that are usually at the bottom. I can't remember what I did in the terminal or gnome-system-monitor to try and fix this, but I think it was unity --reset. (Should've been --replace, I know that now. Unless I was barking up the wrong tree altogether) The result was that the dock disappeared altogether along with the tops of all windows, much as has happened in the past when metacity crashed. But now alt-f2 wasn't working, and while I had a terminal open (and in front of all the other windows), I couldn't type anything into it. (I could, however, right-click and start a new terminal, which didn't work either.)
So then I switched to tty1-6. Unfortunately, I don't know how to use those to start things in tty7, only kill processes. I did some Googling and tried sudo service gdm restart. This, according to ps, ended most of the processes I had open, and now tty7 is stuck on a text screen that says "Ubuntu 11.04" at the top and "* Checking battery state... [ OK ]" at the bottom and has a blinking cursor at the bottom right. Ctrl-Alt-F8 opens a GUI login screen that lists me as "Currently logged in."I'm completely lost here. Is there anything I can do to fix tty7? Is there even anything I should bother doing now but rebooting?

Aug 10, 2011Im getting very slow DVD burning. Quite often in Turbojet2 or using growisofs or whatever, Im getting 0.5x DVD burning speeds.
I set the burn speed to 12x on Turbojet, but it hovers from 0.5x to maybe bursts of 5x.
I will get maybe 9 minute burn times in Brasero for single DVDs but 15 to 25 minutes in Turbojet2 and longer using growisofs or other CLI burning when doing multiple DVDs.
Im running 11.04 on a box w/ SATA drives, SATA DVD-RW's 12gb of Ram an Intel I-5 4 core processor

Sep 1, 2011I've tried writing music files such as .mp3, .wma, and .wav and play them in my car, but none of them work, and when I put the CD in my computer again, none of the music files are there!I've used Brasero and K3B to burn them, as well as the default program that just opens up the cd folder, asks you to copy the files and then gives an option to burn them, and I've looked at past threads but none of them seem to have the same problem as me (or else the suggestions don't help at all).
