I have 2 hard-disk in my pc. What i want to do is to install suse using iso image kept on secondary hard-disk without using cd/dvd rom.
Kindly tell me the steps to install suse on /dev/sda, using iso img kept in /dev/sdb.
I wanted to package my software as an RPM by rpmbuild command. When I run that it complained that gcc not found.
I downloaded gcc and tried to install that from a tar ball. And it complained about cc: coomand not found. I dont know why is this error being shown because I think cc and gcc are the same. Correct me if I am wrong. My system details are:
I tried to download rpm files for gcc but they dont exist for Suse 10.
I'm new to SUSE. I had some virus issues with Windows Vista and decided to change my OS.
I have the modem set up and still can't get the internet to come up. I get the mozilla blank webpage, but I am connected to the internet server. What can I do to get full internet access if everything seems to be working they way it should except for the blank webpage? I know I must be missing something but what?
Also, how do I open Yast to use it? I think I opened it by accident and got some things done
There is this server that I have just put with Bugzilla. It needs Image::Magick module for rendering bmp or other image types to png to save some disk space and compress the images.
The best way to install it is using CPAN repos. And it gives whole lot of errors. I am attaching the file for errors.
But if try to install from cpan console it says Image::Magick is already the recent version.
What is the best way to install software in a linux machine if you dont have root permissions. I know that we can use few variables like PKG_CONFIG_PATH and switches like --prefix with configure to get a software installed in a local directory, but sometimes when there are recursive dependencies it is becoming tough for me to install all the packages manually. Is there a better automated way? What I meant by recursive dependencies is: to install package A, I should install package B, which in turn requires package C to be installed.
how to install ms office in open suse kde3.5 ,i need the procedure to get it done, i have a problem with updating and extraction of wine 1.1.35 while playonlinux is trying to instal msoffice can anybody sugest a soln fr it.
Ok, so I have installed openSUSE 11.3 on my Lenovo Thinkpad T61p, setup the wireless adapter (why is this so difficult?) and installed a few applications. I do like the look of openSUSE but would like to check out a few other flavours. With my Windows 7 (can I say that here?) machines I can create a system image and a system restore CD with a fair amount of ease. Is there a similar process available for Linux?
I installed OpenSUSE 11.2 on a computer. I would like to clone the hard drive so that I can put the same disk image on another computer with the same hardware.
I used clonezilla to create the hadr disk image, when I restore the image on another computer, I got errors and failed to boot. I later learned that, I have disk-by-id on /etc/fstab and grub/menu.list. So, I went into the computer that I tried to restored using Knoppix liveCD and manually changed the fstab and menu.list so that it used something like /dev/sda1, /dev/sdd2, and /dev/sda3, instead of /dev/disk/by-id/WD....-part1 (part2/part3). When I re-booted the new computer, it still failed to boot.
So, do I have to go back to the original computer, manually edit fstab and menu.list to /dev/sda1 /dev/sda2 /dev/sda3, then re-create the disk image? Is there anything I have to change so that it does not use disk-by-id any more?
I installed OpenSUSE 11.2-KDE about 2 weeks ago, and have been pretty satisfied with it so far.Apart from one niggling little problem. When I went to the 'Password and User Account' page (Configure Desktop>About Me) and tried to change from the default image to something more personal, I got a message box saying "Your administrator has disallowed changing your image." However, on the same page I was allowed to enter personal details and could, if I wished, have changed my password.I logged in as root to see if I could change it from there, but I got the same message. As this is a single-user machine, where I am effectively root/administrator, it would appear I am banning myself from changing my image. So far, I've been allowed to change anything else.
After I burn the DVD image, I put the disc on the computer and boot. The installation screen appears, the acknowledgement screen appears, then the installation checks my system and gives me a yast window with an error about something related to URLs and repositories. I cannot continue with the installation.
I am 100% new at this and thought it would be as easy as installing ubuntu (which I installed on a laptop and works flawlessly).I am trying distros and opensuse is compatible with my video card right out of the box apparently, so that's why I chose it for my desktop.Do I need to copy the dvd image to the hard disk of the computer I want to install opensuse on, and use the dvd to boot as well?
Digikam will not rotate images. Worked fine in all previous versions. Tried installing 1.3 from this repo
Index of /repositories/KDE:/UpdatedApps/openSUSE_11.3 per this thread opensuse - exif and gwenview but 1.3 failed to launch. De-installed 1.3 and re-installed 1.2 from release repos.
From reading the above thread perhaps a patch will soon be released?
I was using Firefox 3.6 on Suse 11.1, but I have just reinstalled my root partition and now have Firefox 3.0.4. Firefox immediately warned me to install 3.6. I have downloaded a tar.b2, but I have no idea how to install it. Is it possible to do it through Yast? If I need to use Konsole, please can I have instructions and also where I need to put it. I really need to have it installed as I use a plugin which is now not working with Firefox 3.0.4
This is on a cloud instance of maverick 64bit.In using cloud init to install a package (also does not work manually) I receive the following error.issuing an update with --fix-missing also does not work. I do notice, however this is trying to hit ec2.archive. For iperf I don't know that it needs to be ec2 specific. To my knowledge this worked a few weeks ago. Also, where it is easy enough on a Desktop version of maverick to simply switch sources for the upgrades/updates I have not found how to specify a new url (i.e. Duke University vs. MIT) The repositories I am happy with just the location of the repositories. On this particular cloud image is it even safe to leave ec2 as it is a specialized stripped down image.
Whenever i'm trying to install apps via one click install or any other way, it later demands i insert the OpenSuse 11.4 CD into the drive, otherwise it won't install.
I've ordered and received the beautiful 4 disk set for release 11.2 that came on DVD. Like so many Linux users I would like to load it on an older Windows XP box without DVD drive. Haven't seen this release offered on CD's. I've been able to copy it via network to a file on the box, but have no idea which files belong on which CD - I assume it will take 7 or 8 disks like many of the older releases. Don't want to buy a DVD drive for the old box .
I have tried to compile Aircrack -ng in Opensuse 11.2 I have received the following output

I have a Toshiba M400 tablet laptop. I installed SuSE 11.2 and have connection to the internet via internal wireless connection to modem zoomtown. I click on mozilla or konquorer but get a blank webpage. I've tried everything I can think of but have not been successful.
I have installed 11.2. When it starts to boot it runs through its startup and then all I get is a blank screen. I noticed in startup just before it says starting HAL it says CPU frequency not supported. I am assuming that this is the issue. I have run 11 and 11.1 on this box and have not had a problem with this. I have a P4 3.00 GHz with 2 GB of RAM.
I am installing SLES on a new server with raid 05, after I went with the setup it copies all the files until It gets to install grub. It gets me an error message installing grub and it wont let me move forward.
My yast crashes just as soon as started installing flash. Do have flash saved as .tar.gz on desktop. What is the easiest way to install it? Also searched in Tutorials. Just patching as I go until I build a new PC.
Up until KDE4 I could select a different image for each of the 4 virtual desktops. Now I tried Suse11.1 KDE and it seems like there is no such option. I can change the background image allright, but all 4 desktops have the SAME image.
I've tried installing Graphite One under my new clean Suse 11.4 64-bit installation. graphite one apparently needs python 2.6 to install and suse 11.4 comes with 2.7. I hope I can just create symbolic links to satisfy the installer to run? I've tried to make 2.6 links under /usr/bin and /usr/lib64. I'm using
Code: sudo ln -s libpython2.7.so.1.0 libpython2.6.so.1.0 to create the links, but I've sort of lost track of all the python librarys (.so .so.1 .so.1.0 and so on). Furthermore I have no idea about how to verify if it is correct. Code: ls -l /usr/bin/python*
