Ubuntu Servers :: Postfix Not Sending Emails?
Jan 18, 2010I have a static IP from local ISP and my computer is configured with 192.168.1.2 (LAN IP).
I have installed ubuntu server 9.04 and want to send emails from my server for which I've configured postfix. But I dont know what to do next.
My questions are:
1. Do i need to install DNS server for using postfix? If not, what should I install to send emails from this server?
2. Do I need to forward any particular port in my router?
3. If I dont have a fully qualified domain, what are the configurations I need to do to send emails?

Oct 12, 2010I have wordpress installed on my VPS, which is running 10.04.1 LTS. I appear to be having an issue whereby the server isn't sending out emails to new users, nor to myself when I get comments on the blog.I'm at a dead end for where to look next, because the settings are exactly the same as they were with my previous VPS (and they were always pretty generic), but yet it doesn't work.

Nov 7, 2010I have been messing around with a template from Dreamweaver and went and uploaded it to my web server last night to see if it worked. the template works when i view it both on Dreamweaver and locally through windows explorer but when i visit go to the actual website either on the same network or elsewhere it shows up but is missing the background image.
my skills in html and css are good enough to try and troubleshoot this if it were a problem with the source code but as i have come up empty handed i believe it to be a problem with the server. mind you i could have missed something, if i did please let me know so i can smack my self in the head.
the domain is [URL].. should you want to view it. this is a new server only set up about a week ago and it is my first linux server. i have only ever had to deal with 2 windows servers and only a few linux desktops so i may need a few things explained.

Apr 14, 2010I just setup a mail server on my web server and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to send emails to external (as in outside my LAN) emails or receive from external emails. I'm using Postfix with Dovecot and Squirrelmail. I get this delivery report in Squirrelmail when trying to send an email to my hotmail address.

Mar 28, 2011I'm installing a 10.04 server remotely - it's basically an RSYNC host for backups. I've got one minor issue - it's really more of an annoyance, but I would like to have it solved.When sending e-mails, the messages come in addressed to three destinations - when it's only supposed to be sent to one. What's worse is that the two additional addresses are based on the hostname of the machine.Let me explain: I use this command:Code:mail -s Testing email@somedomain.comI then compose the e-mail and send it. The mail arrive a few seconds later but addresed to the following:Code:from@hostname.domain.com;email@somedomain.com;hostname@hostname.domain.comThe "from@hostname.domain.com" has the actual word "from" in the address. I've installed many, many servers like this in the past and this is the first time that anything wonky with email has happened that I couldn't fix or explain. The machine is running postfix and I installed the bsd-mailx package to get the command line "mail" command (I used to install "mailx", but this seems to work just like the old package).

Ubuntu Servers :: CUPS Very Long Delay Between Sending Jobs And Printing?
Feb 17, 2011I've set up a cups printing server using ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS. The printer's a HP Laser Jet 1018 I can connect to it over vpn using openvpn from my netbook which is also running ubuntu 10.04.1. I can connect to the printer all right and test page prints without a problem. But if I try to print anything else, it take at least 5 minutes before the job is successfully send and printed out.
Also, on the client side, for example, the file size would like 500k, and when it finally prints out, the file size on the server side is less than 10k. The file is a black and white document, and from what I can tell, the printed page is not missing any information.

Jul 26, 2011I have a postfix mail server on ubuntu 10.04 lts behind a router. so all local users are fetching/sending mails through ms outlook using local IP. Sometimes when internet goes down and any mail send then it bounced back immediately saying domain not found. Can u please tell me how i configure to hold all mails in postfix server rather than bounce when internet fails and will pass through when restored the internet around 15-30 minutes?

Ubuntu :: Sending Error: No Such Partition?
Jan 31, 2011ok so my Tech teacher installed Ubuntu on my laptop for me so that i could try to program with Objective-C in the terminal. It didn't work. Just the other day i tried to remove the partition to make space for other things that i needed on my computer.
I also made my Vista portion take of the part that was controller by Ubuntu. Now when i run i get a message that says
error: no such partition.

IDK what to do, i have no cd to instal it again, oh yeah and in 2 and a half hours, i won't have a computer because the one that i am on now goes back to my co-op.

Feb 19, 2010Basically, I think my Internet crashed while sending an email via Evolution and now whenever I open Evolution, or try and receive any new email it just sits there sending this email - it reaches 100% so I can only assume it has actually sent the email.
There's a button to "Cancel the current mail operation" though it doesn't appear to be doing anything; the email is still being "sent" each time.
This would be pretty tedious for the guy I sent the email to.
Has anyone had similar issues and knows of a fix?

Feb 25, 2010I have an rsync backup job scripted and run by cron at 12:00 every day. It emails me the log from rsync. The problem is that it sends the same email every minute starting at 12:00 and ending at 1:00. I can't figure out what I did to cause this. It is not happening on my other ubuntu server.

I have a number of linux boxes - main running Gentoo, a couple of others running Mint and a new one running Kubuntu 9.10.All, except the new one, connect to my hosted remote server through FTP, FISH or SSH without any problem.However the new machine will connect to my remote server, via fish, but then gets immediately disconnected.
