I have wordpress installed on my VPS, which is running 10.04.1 LTS. I appear to be having an issue whereby the server isn't sending out emails to new users, nor to myself when I get comments on the blog.I'm at a dead end for where to look next, because the settings are exactly the same as they were with my previous VPS (and they were always pretty generic), but yet it doesn't work.

I am using the Postfix SMTP server for sending emails. However I just did a default installation and subsequently someone is sending spam using my SMTP server. I would like some help on securing my Postfix server and to block these mischievous emails being sent from my server.

I just got control over a server that was hacked several months back. The other day we started receiving rejected emails sent from my server to a yahoo email address that is no longer active that contained users login information. I am trying to find the process that is sending these emails. So far its been like finding a needle in a haystack. The email that is being sent is appending the login information each time it is sent so there must be a local file that contains this information. I have tried using grep and find without any luck.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a 64bit linux server with 5 virtual hosts on it. When someone fills out a contact form on one of the sites...I get 15-20 copies of the same email. At first I thought it was the kids clicking send multiple times because the first emails were coming from the children's ministry "Email The Cast" section. But then I started getting multiples from the adult sites too. All contact forms are set to come to me.
What's stranger is that my registration section for one of the sites uses the SAME php script (different file) to email me a notification that someone has registered but I only get 1 copy of that.

I have an rsync backup job scripted and run by cron at 12:00 every day. It emails me the log from rsync. The problem is that it sends the same email every minute starting at 12:00 and ending at 1:00. I can't figure out what I did to cause this. It is not happening on my other ubuntu server.

When I am using Mailutils to send messages to myself as a test, I get them but they are from <"ryandward@ryandward"@gmail.com> which is not a valid email address and I have no idea why my system is configured to send them from this address. This is indicative of some problem there is going on in my system.

I write an email and hit send/receive and get error. "Error while sending message" ir seems that it is downloading messages, but not sending. There is a quick, but annoying solution to it: restart Evolution. As soon as it is restarted (close and ope the application) it is working OK for some time.

Everything is working, I can send and receive fax's ok, But when I set it with the 'mail_fax' script, I dont get an attached file, All I get is a directory location of the temp file, Witch is obviously deleted by the 'mail_fax' script! No Attachment is in the email.

I'm trying to get logwatch to email me. I think my logwatch.conf file is okay. I have postfix installed. The mailer as far as I can tell is set correctly ("usr/bin/mail"). When I run logwatch - I get "no mail for aubrey"

We have a load of undeliverable emails backed up on the server. The problem we have is that the server we purchased from a well known host is rubbish. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been messing around with a template from Dreamweaver and went and uploaded it to my web server last night to see if it worked. the template works when i view it both on Dreamweaver and locally through windows explorer but when i visit go to the actual website either on the same network or elsewhere it shows up but is missing the background image.
my skills in html and css are good enough to try and troubleshoot this if it were a problem with the source code but as i have come up empty handed i believe it to be a problem with the server. mind you i could have missed something, if i did please let me know so i can smack my self in the head.

I've been looking for a way to filter out emails on my postfix server by GeoIP data. I couldn't find anything that fitted the bill so wrote my own in Python as a postfix policy. It is the strangest thing. I can not receive emails on this server after it has been up for an hour. I noticed that everytime and email is received that a sshd opens but never closes. Causeing a memory issue that I dont know how to fix. Also the mailq grows and grows. Mostly with email stating the recipient and send are both [URL].. also postmaster@mail.jmchd.com shows mail system configuration error. I have to restart the server every 30 minutes so users can get and send emails. This is horrible because for every 5 minutes out of the hour emails are bouncing.i have looked through them but I know not what I am looking at.
PS. I was thrown into the position and have limited knowledge. I am used to a GUI.
Since we switched our server to Squeeze, I'm receiving emails from the cron about a mysql error (...can't use locks with log tables). But this is not the issue I want to talk about here. The issue is that since the executed command is: /usr/bin/mysqlcheck -uroot -pmypassword --all-databases --check-only-changed --silent which is a command that was automatically added to the cron by the mysql package (I believe), the password is sent in clear text in the email's subject. In my sense, this is a serious security issue (sending root password in email subject...)
I don't know at what level it should be corrected, but it seems to me like it should be corrected in the Debian distrib, shouldn't it ?
And for now, how can I hide the password in the emails I receive ?
I tried searching the posts and have come up empty handed. I need to find an email I sent to myself (actually a forward of several other emails) that did not get delivered. Otherwise I need the original emails themselves. I have been using pop with dovecot on my ubuntu server Jaunty machine. I searched the mail logs and found that the reason the message might not have been delivered could be because my permissions were not set to administrator for that user. I changed the permissions and still nothing came back.
I deleted the client mail account on the machine I used that had the messages but I was hoping they might still be somewhere on the server. Any ideas?

I would like all outgoing email on my Ubuntu server to be redirected to one email address (internal or external). I don't have any mail server installed yet (I'll probably use postfix unless you have another suggestion).
The reason I would like this to work is because I'm a web developer working on multiple projects. When I start working on a new project I would like to be able to test some of the forms and features in the web application (PHP) without having emails sent to the email address configured in the application. I can always change configurations but having my development server forward the emails would save me lots of trouble.
Example:
If one of my php application sends an email to: user1@domain.com, user3@domain4.com... I would like all of them to forward to myemail@domain.com
Our main DNS resolves to a windows 2008 server box. What I want to do is have a secondary box with Ubuntu to receive sent emails (our@our.com). The problem my brain cannot get around is the DNS resolves to the windows server 2008 box(which host the website as well), how can we allow the email (ours@ours.com) to go to the Ubuntu email server even though the DNS name resolves to the windows server? We need the Windows Server but just Don't want it hosting our mail.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWe have a number of servers at work, some production and some non-production. We run some java applications on these servers. At present these java applications send emails via an SMTP connection to our live email servers.
In production all is well, the java apps send emails to customers. However, in the non-production environments all emails must not be sent out. Instead they must end up in some kind of generic inbox.
We don't want to mess with the production setup at all and it isn't an option to lose the non-prod emails altogether. So on non-prod we can reference another SMTP server and send all emails there. So far I've set up a postfix, dovecot, squirrelmail email server which appears to work.
