how to program in C or C++, but I'm pretty decent with python ( I've only used this on Windows ) and I was wondering if there was a way I can display my notifications like that as well. If you could just tell me what causes these messages to display like this I'm sure I could do some investigating of my own.

Transmission offers to run a script when a download is complete.
I'd like that script to create a popup message saying "Download Complete" (including the name of what was completed if possible otherwise just generic "DL complete")
I tried 'man notify-osd' and 'notify-osd --help' but it is not found.
Yet it is installed by default.
The message must stay up until clicked on so that if something finishes overnight, the msg is still there in the morning.

I was trying to use Message Queues for sending message from aninserted kernel module to user space. The function sys_msgsnd failedgiving the obvious error -EFAULT.However, I was able to send the message from kernel to user space when I had made the same driver part of kernel (and not inserting it).How is that possible?I am using linux.2.6.19.x (arch=ppc)I now use Netlink socket to communicate from kernel to user, but the aboveproblem seemed strange to me.

After waking up my laptop I get a pop up with a 'button' saying that it's connected to the wireless network. However, each time it adds another copy of the message button, so now I have about 8 and growing.
The trouble is that the button saying "Don't so this message again" doesn't actually do anything when you press it.

Today's update of IceCat (5.0) added a fantastic new "feature" - every time I visit a website I get a message(s) popup at the top of the screen asking me if I want to block cookies from the site and informing me about scripts running on the page. Even if I've visited the site earlier in the same session it asks me again. I'm OK with accepting cookies and if I want to create an exception I can do it myself from the options menu. Is there any way to disable this (about:config etc.)?

Just upgraded to 10.10, evolution worked the first time but has not worked since. Have tried re installation but no joy. Starting for terminal shows:-
(evolution:16876): Unique-DBus-WARNING **: Error while sending message: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.
It was working in 10.04.

Since upgrading to 11.04 yesterday, nauilus has been acting strangely. It takes about 30 seconds for a right click on the desktop to respond, whereas before it would've taken 1 or 2. Also, when trying to open a directory, say, the Home direcotry accessible from the launcher,it takes about a minute to open, which is odd, because all of my other applications (Chrome, Banshee etc) ares all running smoothly. And when the direcotry windowe does open, within 10 sconds it will turn grey and prompt me to force quit. When i try to open nautilus from a terminal, it comes back with the message
Code:
(nautilus:3508): Unique-DBus-WARNING **: Error while sending message: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

I am seeing log messages that I don't understand. If I run tail -f /var/log/messages, some times I will see this this sort of repeating pattern. I don't know if I have cut at the start of the sequence or not. Incidentally, this is a normaly well-behaved client/host.
[Code].....
Why is the client repeatedly sending the (1/4) message and then timing out?

I have set up SSH and redirected the ssh server to listen on another port other than 22 for a bit of added security.
Now in hosts.deny I have:
ALL : ALL
In hosts.allow I have:
SSH : ip_address_of_client
I can no longer connect. I get the message: ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host.
When I change hosts.allow to read:
ALL : ip_address_of_client
I can successfully connect the server.
However, I only want to allow SSH access in hosts.allow. What is the correct syntax?
I have tried and failed with each one of these:
SSH : ip_address:port_number
SSH2 : ipaddress
sshfwd-portnumber : ip_address_of_client

Did anyone heard about or can suggest mabe a postfix serverside solution in order to insert a counter number into the subject line before the message is sent?
I mean something similar with helpdesk tickets, because I would like to create the possibility for the senders, to make further refference about a speciffic message using it's counter number provided by postfix server.

Suppose I have computer A with ip address on eth0 of 192.168.0.1 and ip address on eth1 of 192.168.1.1. If I send packets to 192.168.1.1 from computer A, it automatically uses the loopback interface. Is it possible to modify the routing table some how to send these packets out on eth0 instead and have them route around the network and come back on eth1.I've tried 'route add -host 192.168.1.1 dev eth0' but it seems to completely ignore this entry.

I have a question regarding Bluetooth with Bluedevil. Finally I got a connection working in one direction: sending files from my mobile (Google Nexus One with Android 2.3.3) to the computer. But I can not send files from my computer to the phone. I also tried to send files from my desktop to my Laptop and it fails. I also tried it the other way around: from Laptop to Desktop... fail.
What is it? Is it still a bug in Bluedevil and all I can do is wait? Or is there some package missing? The following packages (regarding bluetooth) are installed:
bluedevil
bluez
libbluetooth 3
pulseaudio-module-bluetooth
I don't believe that it is hardware related, because it works one-way... If I should post logfiles or whatever.

We have two Sangoma U100 products connected to our Acer Aspire Revo 360 (runs on Atom board). The Sangoma USB units provide connectivity to PSTN. Occassionaly and probably in a pattern they have failed every monday for the past month or so.
This is the OS version of CentOS I am running: Linux pbx.local 2.6.18-194.8.1.el5 #1 SMP Thu Jul 1 19:07:06 EDT 2010 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux I am wondering if this is a driver issue, ACPI sending computer or ports to sleep, or if it's something else? Any pointers would be appreciated. Following is some portions of dmesg output:
sdlausb: Attaching sdlausb on 2 (BusId 2-1)
sdla-2-1: USB device is connected!
sdla-2-1: USB device is disconnected!

This puzzling message pops up during startup and forces a reboot:
Code:
Checking root filesystems. fsck.ext3: No such file or directory while trying to open /dev/hda1 The superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2 filesystem. If the device is valid and it really contains an ext2 filesystem, then the superblock is corrupt. This was typed in not copied.
The laptop is running gentoo linux. Here is the fstab file and instead of having "boot" on its own partition I decided to have both "/" and "boot" in the same partition. This has never caused any problems before so I don't understand what the problem is now.

My computer recognizes the printer and has no trouble printing out any documents. The printer can scan papers to a memory card and makes copies just fine too. But when I select "Scan to PC" I get the message "Try scan from computer or see documentation. Press OK." Of course, the printer included next to no documentation, only the basic plug-it-in-and-turn-it-on instructions. Simple Scan said that it did not find a scanner.

Today, I finished assembling my dream computer. I can boot it into the BIOS, and I checked that everything was working correctly through there. Anyway, I attempted to transfer the hard drive from this computer to that one. This computer is a Dell (blech) Optiplex GX280 with an Intel processor and integrated graphics. The new one has an AMD Phenom II processor with an ATI card and an ASRock motherboard (drastically different machines, I know...) When I try to boot, GRUB gives me an error message that says something like:
Code:
blah whatever cannot find /dev/disk/by-uuid/372de761-9577-48be-ba19-c6b2890cb229
Did I do something wrong installing the hard drive? Or is this a problem that is going to happen no matter how hard I try to make it not happen? If the second is true, will it help if I wipe the disk and reinstall Ubuntu on the new computer?
P.S. I know similar threads about transferring hard disks have been posted, but no thread has mentioned this error.

The computer booted up, but displayed a message that said something to the effect of, "Error occurred during root file system check. You will be given the option of doing maintenance......"I can get to a command prompt, but regardless of what I do a message pops saying it can't find libblkid.so.1

I recently decided to install ubuntu netbook remix 10.10 to my Toshiba NB200. I was using windows and I wanted to completely erase them. I burned the USB, I followed every single instruction the site had, and even though the installation seemed to work, and a message to reboot my computer appeared at the end, the installation finally fails. When I reboot, the only thing I get is a black screen with an underscore at the top left corner. I tried the installation four to six times and even tried older versions as well but all I get is the black screen.

A friend of mine recently broke his laptop's screen. He knew I wanted to setup a small personal server so he gave it to me. I used an old monitor and wiped the HDD and installed Ubuntu. At the end I chose to upgrade the freshly installed OS. When I rebooted the computer after upgrading I couldn't get any images on the monitor. I tried to unplug/plug it several times but it doesn't work. I keep getting the "No signal" message on the screen.
Is there a way for me to somehow force the computer to use the secondary display? And if not is it possible to install and configure all the packages to run a VNC server on it without seeing anything?
