Ubuntu Servers :: Sending Mail To External Email (Outside LAN)

Apr 14, 2010

I just setup a mail server on my web server and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to send emails to external (as in outside my LAN) emails or receive from external emails. I'm using Postfix with Dovecot and Squirrelmail. I get this delivery report in Squirrelmail when trying to send an email to my hotmail address.

Final-Recipient: rfc822; example@hotmail.com
Action: failed
Status: 5.0.0
Remote-MTA: dns; mx3.hotmail.com
Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 550 DY-001 Mail rejected by Windows Live Hotmail for policy reasons. We generally do not accept email from dynamic IP's as they are not typically used to deliver unauthenticated SMTP e-mail to an Internet mail server. [URL] maintains lists of dynamic and residential IP addresses. If you are not an email/network admin please contact your E-mail/Internet Service Provider for help. Email/network admins, please visit [URL] for email delivery information and support.

How is it possible to send email using the "mail" program? I tried:

CentOS 5 Server :: Sending Logwatch To External Mail Address?

Nov 4, 2009

My ISP blocks outgoing email if it does not login properly with a valid account. I successfully configured sendmail to use SMART_HOST and confAUTH_OPTIONS with confAUTH_MECHANISM set to LOGIN PLAIN.

It successfully sends email because I tested it with evolution sending through 127.0.0.1, but I need to specify myacount@mydomain.com as the email address for root.

But it doesn't work for logwatch because it sends as from root@localhost.localdomain, and my ISP's smtp server rejects it. The message I get back in root@localhost account is the following:

----- Transcript of session follows -----
... while talking to smtp.mydomain.com.:
>>> MAIL From:<root@localhost.localdomain> SIZE=581 AUTH=<>
<<< 550 5.7.1 Client does not have permissions to send as this sender
554 5.0.0 Service unavailable

I thought that I should masquerade all emails from this domain, so I configured sendmail as specified in [1] section "24.3.1.4. Masquerading", but it doesn't work. It seems that masquerading in sendmail is broken or something is wrong in the documentation.

[1] [URL]

I have sendmail 8.13.8-2 and centos-release-5-4.el5.centos.1.

Is there a way to specify the "From:myacount@mydomain.com" in logwatch ? or Is there a way to make it work the masquerading in sendmail so I can masquerade everything as coming from a specific account?

Ubuntu Servers :: Mail() Not Sending In HTML Format?

Apr 15, 2011

I'm not sure if this is a server problem or a PHP problem. I've tried the code on other servers and it seems to work - so I assume it's a server problem. I am running it on Ubuntu 10.10.

When run this code, it does not render in HTML on my OSX mail reader:

PHP Code:

<?php$to = "xxx@xxx.com";$subject = "HTML email";$message = "<html><head><title>HTML email</title></head><body><p>This email contains HTML Tags!</p><table><tr><th>Firstname</th><th>Lastname</th></tr><tr><td>John</td><td>Doe</td></tr></table></body></html>";// Always set content-type when sending HTML email$headers = "MIME-Version: 1.0" . "

Ubuntu Servers :: Email Is Sent From The Mail Queue Its Not Delivered In Html Format - File

Nov 3, 2010

I have recently set up an ubuntu 10:04 based email server using postfix, clamav and squirrelmail. The setup works like a beast, much better than the old sco based system we were using. Anyway I work for a law firm, and we have use a bespoke case management system to complete work on cases. We have started a paperless office initiative. This means we are asking more and more clients and firms to correspond via email. This is where my troubles are kicking in. The governing body of solicitors in the UK is very picky, and we have to have certain formats and information in documents when sent out to clients, this is the same for emails.

I have a script that will cat the html header information, then cat the body of the email and finally cat the footer html information. The output of which is perfect and usable to the firm. My problem comes sending this file. The end of the script I have the following:

Code: mail -s $SUBJECT $CLIENTS_EMAIL < email.$$$ Pretty self explanatory. But when the email is sent from the mail queue its not delivered in html format but in plain text. Any email sent using outlook from any machine on the network can send and receive html email. How can I make this happen from the command line?

Fedora Servers :: Postfix Does Not Receive External Email

Jan 14, 2010

I have been running an email server on a Red Hat 9 system for 5 years, and wanting to upgrade it to the latest Fedora OS. A few days ago it crashed. The server is running Fedora 11 (up-to-date). Clients are Fedora 11 and Windows XP machines using Thunderbird for accessing email. The server is running Postfix and Dovecot. Within my local network I can send and receive emails. I can also send email to addresses outside of my local network. The only problem is that I cannot receive any email from outside the local network. I cannot think of anything aside from my firewall (iptables) or postfix config that could be causing the problem.

Below are my iptables file, and the postfix main.cf changes that I have made.
Iptables (the same file I was using on Red Hat version 9 with one minor deprecated syntax changed):
*nat

:POSTROUTING ACCEPT [14:840]
:OUTPUT ACCEPT [17:1356]

General :: Sending Mail From Virtual Host Fails "mail For Domain.com Loops Back To Myself"

Jul 1, 2011

I have two servers relavant here: mail.domain.com (1.1.1.1) - which is the nameserver and the mail server for domain.com. www.domain.com (2.2.2.2) - which is the www subdomain for domain.com domain.com (cname www.domain.com) - an alias for www.

The zone file for domain.com lists mail.domain.com as the MX server for domain.com. 2.2.2.2 is actually being served web pages as a virtual host. It's real hostname is www.anotherdomain.com. Mail for domain.com works pretty well, in general. However, if I attempt to send mail from www.domain.com (or its alias domain.com), I get "mail for domain.com loops back to myself" in the postfix logs. On 2.2.2.2 /etc/postfix/mail.cf has mydestination = www.anotherdomain.com, localhost. How do I tell postfix on 2.2.2.2 that mail for domain.com needs to be delivered to mail.domain.com?

Ubuntu :: Evolution In A Loop Sending The Same Email / Fix This?

Feb 19, 2010

Basically, I think my Internet crashed while sending an email via Evolution and now whenever I open Evolution, or try and receive any new email it just sits there sending this email - it reaches 100% so I can only assume it has actually sent the email.

There's a button to "Cancel the current mail operation" though it doesn't appear to be doing anything; the email is still being "sent" each time.

This would be pretty tedious for the guy I sent the email to.

Has anyone had similar issues and knows of a fix?

Ubuntu :: Bash Script For Sending Email Using Mailx?

May 8, 2010

I'm trying to send an email using mailx, in a bash script, but I can't get it to work. In the terminal I can, and this is how I do it:

Code:
$ mailx johndoe@gmail.com
Message^D

Within seconds of doing this, I get sent an email. The problem is with the bash script I'm trying to make. Among other things, I tried this:

Code:
#!/bin/bash mailx johndoe@gmail.com < "Message" I honestly don't know what I'm supposed to do, and I've Googled a bunch of things too, and didn't have too much luck. Is there anyone who could help me out?

Edit: Figured it out. This is what I did, and it works for me:

Code:
#!/bin/bash
