Jan 18, 2011I've set up an FTP and it works fine. Now the idea is to make it viewable from http://..... I've redirected the DNS to the specific IP, I've installed apache2 (using debian), I've configured the apache2.conf (as much as i know how ), but still nothing happens... The idea is, the files to be viewable/downloadable throught [URL], but the directory's in [URL] not to be seen (restricted)... The FTP directory is /ftp/username Tried this in apache2.conf

What I want to do is make it so when someone goes to my_domain/ apache will pretend it doesn't exist, but I want subdirectories to work still.
What I tried was denying access to /var/www, but the apache returns with a message for that.

Jan 10, 2011Recently I've been migrating my development environment to ubuntu (desktop edition, because this is not a server, is just my computer) and I've been having some problems with apache case-sensitive (I'm an absolute beginner with it). I want to make apache case-insensitive, but I didn't find a complete and easy to follow solution online more than doing this:
From the command line, type sudo su to get root privileges.
nano /etc/apache2/mods-available/speling.conf
Type CheckSpelling on and hit ctrl-x, y to exit and save the file.
type a2enmod and then speling and hit enter.
type /etc/init.d/apache2 reload to reload apache.
Mistype a url to test it.
I found that here: [URL]. It worked for some things but I'm still having a lot of problems with capitalization. I don't wanna go back to windows an ISS. BTW I'm using ubuntu 10.10 desktop edition 32-bits, and I've not moved any apache configuration more than that described above.

I've got everything working except the url for the site.The IP address of the server will take me to the site URL.../But I'd rather use the server's name instead of the IP address URL...When i try to go to URL... in Firefox or IE it give me a server not found page and changes the URL to URL...I also have Webmin installed on the server and I've been playing around with the Apache module and can't figure out how to set it so i can use the server name instead of the IP address to get to the site.

CentOS 5 Server :: Dovecot/apache Not Working Properly - How To Make It Work Correctly
Mar 20, 2010I am running a quad core centos 5.4 box that is having a strange problem with dovecot. The administration panel is able to send emails through dovecot but not any of the user accounts (ie with webmail). I've done a bit of research with what could be wrong but haven't had any luck so far I am also having a weird problem with apache: on a c++/php bittorrent application I was going to be running on a subdomain of my main site I get a 500 error every time I try to log in. The only way to get rid of the 500 error is to clear the chache (so its horribly broken somehow). The error generated in the log whenever I try to log in is that "ffmpeg is already loaded" (which I am running on the main site and is critical). Is there a way of either repairing my apache install or excluding ffmpeg on the subdomain in the conf or something?

Unfortunately I seem to have hit some walls. When trying to execute ./config.nice I get the following error:
./config.nice: 33: /build/buildd/apache2-2.2.14/configure: not found
Google have not yielded any results as yet. If I leave out this step and use configure, make and make install, v2.2.19 gets installed, but to a different directory and all the config will need to be reformatted as it seems it does not use the Ubuntu Apache config structure.

May 17, 2010I have no idea what is going on here and this is the second time it has done this but. I just installed Lucid Lynx Desktop Edition for my Server. I have installed apache php5 mysql binarys. I have 3 ips on the machine 10.0.1.30, 10.0.1.37, 10.0.1.38. .30 is the main ip 10/100 the rest are 10,100,1000 ports. I can only access Apache 2.2 over .37 or .38 but not .30
I have not used Ubuntu alot but I am starting to and this really pisses me off since all my computer have aliases to the machine through .30

Jun 6, 2010bit of a server noob having built a server to hold a php website for a client hosting at home, I have some experience, but VERY limited and don't speak fluent server.My problem is that overnight each day apache on my clients server stops responding. I can still access via putty / webmin.The best I can see it, it seems that apache 2 opens too many child processes and chokes the system. My reasoning for this is:-Though I have max child set to 20 with a keep alive of 30 there are dozens of child processes 'apache2 -k start' running, some of which were started 9.5 hours ago.
-I can stop apache, though that doesn't kill these child processes. I can terminate the parent process which does kill the child processes, however restarting apache after killing the child processes results in a system crash. Rebooting the server remotely after apache has stopped responding also results in a server crash. That is NO response on any port.I would be happy to display any pertinent server config/logs etc if anyone can help me troubleshoot this?

Eventually it turned out to be some misconfiguration of the server where the VPS is hosted on.Since then I have installed the apache server, but I'm still not able to access the apache server from an external computer. I already have contacted the provider, but they haven't replied yet. Since the upload speed is quite low due to my isp I would like to execute a bash script that uploads a file to another server through a website (which is htaccess protected) The idea in general: Someone with access to my website browses through a folder, copies a file path to an input form and presses "upload". Rather than executing a bash script directly I could have a cron job running in background that finds the path and then uploads the file to the other server I have userspace on and is accessible via sftp/ssh. The file would be than erased later after a couple of days or so. That person would be able to access the file with higher speed some time later without logging in via ssh and doing all that manually.

Jul 9, 2009I'm running an Apache web server version 2.2.11 on Fedora 10. I'm trying to get it to run a PERL cgi script but with only partial success. The script uses the PERL cgi package.
The perl script is a simple test case that creates a form to fill in. Once the submit button has been clicked it should then return the data submitted. The perl script writes this to a file called output.cgi
The intial script located in /var/www/cgi-bin/index.cgi gets executed fine when I go to [URL], this works with no probs. However once I hit the button to submit the data I then get the error

The requested URL /cgi-bin/output.cgi was not found on this server. Apache/2.2.11 (Fedora) Server at localhost Port 80 Im not sure if its a perl problem or server setup problem, theres probably a simple switch or something but Im out of ideas at the moment.

Oct 26, 2010I'm hosting my own dedicated server with Ubuntu Server 10.10. I have it set up with a static local IP, and I've configured DynDNS to link up with my router and allow my server to go live to the internet. I have all the appropriate ports unlocked, with the exception of port 80. This port is blocked by my ISP (Charter) and I can't use it. Due to this, I configured my router to listen on port 81, and direct it to my server.
So, In order to view it, you need to go to the IP XXX.xxx.XXX.xxx:81 Today, I registered (www.online-self.com) in hopes of getting around my current mask (provided by DynDNS.com (omegame.selfip.com). So here is my dilemma, When I go to the host of my domain name , I want to redirect my DNS to my server IP.
I can't seem to do it though? They want a strict IP address, no port extensions. How do I get around this so that my domain name and IP address link up? I'm thinking I may be missing a step, or maybe I needed to register a domain name that simply redirects? I'm starting to get confused on what I should do next. Can I even do this?

Nov 9, 2010For the last couple of days I've been building on a server built from an old (well, not too old) computer. My goal is to use it for multiple purposes like a webserver, home automation, and possibly a future media center (if I get my TV card to work). But perhaps the main reason is to get wireless access to the internet for my laptop, and to connect it to my other (stationary) computer. When I'm done I'm also planning on writing a guide for setting up an access point with the rt61 chipset, as there seems to be many people looking for this. First I just need to get through this problem though .
For this I use two wired NICs, eth0 for the local interface to my computer, and eth1 as an external interface for the internet. Moreover I use a wireless NIC (DWL-G510 using the rt61pci driver) in conjunction with the daemon hostapd to provide a wireless interface for portable computers to connect to. eth1 gets its IP through DHCP from my ISP, while eth0 and wlan0 have static IPs on two different subnets like this (copied from /etc/network/interfaces):
