Ubuntu Servers :: Apache Server Not Accesible From External Computers

Dec 8, 2010

A week ago I purchased an VPS. The first few days I was having trouble to set up an outgoing connection on the VPS. Eventually it turned out to be some misconfiguration of the server where the VPS is hosted on.Since then I have installed the apache server, but I'm still not able to access the apache server from an external computer. I already have contacted the provider, but they haven't replied yet. To speed things up I was hoping someone could check my configuration to be sure nothing is wrong with it.To be sure I posted all configuration and information that I think would be important. Please contact me if you need more information.

On my Server I have an application running. I have the External IP address of the Server registered in DNS so users requiring access from outside the office can enter a full URL rather then an IP address.

How to I change my Apache config so that all traffic that comes into the server from the URL is put over https?

Server :: Apache - Cannot Hit Site External

Aug 24, 2010

Only from internal lan. I have secondary IP address added for SSL site, and we are natting that address from that outside. I can hit it if I change my hosts file to that local IP on the server itself, but when using external NAT address it never hits the server. But if you telnet to that external address with port 80 or 443 it works.

Here is a sample of my config with servername and ip addresses changed:

<VirtualHost 192.168.150.100:80>
ServerName sample.website.com
ServerAlias sample.website.com

Ubuntu :: Setup Apache To Serve Only The Computers In The LAN?

Jun 10, 2010

I use to keep a running instance of Apache in order to test my sites locally. I'm usually not that fussy about security, assuming my 80 and 8080 ports are closed (and, well, also the other ones).Anyway this evening I was just logging into PHPMyAdmin when I found the default username was a string of garbled characters. When I entered PHPMyAdmin, I was greeted with the message

Code: Additional features have been disabled in order to work with linked tables. To find out why click here.So I clicked and it seems that the error comes from the table

Code:
$cfg['Servers'][$i]['tracking']
which has been disabled. Everything else SEEMS ok at first sight. So now I have got a few questions.

1) I checked via canyouseeme.org and the default ports are still closed. This mean it should be impossible to even try to do something on my Apache remotely, right?

2) How do I reenable the additional features?

3) How do I check if someone else logged in?

4) What about the garbled name at the login? This should be just a Firefox thing, or actually PHPMyAdmin does suggest the name of the latest login?

5) How do I set up Apache to serve only the computers in the LAN? At worst, even only the local computer would be good.

Ubuntu Servers :: Upgrade The Apache Installation On Server From V2.2.14 To V2.2.19

I am currently trying to upgrade the Apache installation on our server from v2.2.14 to v2.2.19 using:

Unfortunately I seem to have hit some walls. When trying to execute ./config.nice I get the following error:

./config.nice: 33: /build/buildd/apache2-2.2.14/configure: not found

Google have not yielded any results as yet. If I leave out this step and use configure, make and make install, v2.2.19 gets installed, but to a different directory and all the config will need to be reformatted as it seems it does not use the Ubuntu Apache config structure.

Ubuntu Servers :: 8.0.4 Server Apache Overload/Crash On Restart?

Jun 6, 2010

bit of a server noob having built a server to hold a php website for a client hosting at home, I have some experience, but VERY limited and don't speak fluent server. My problem is that overnight each day apache on my clients server stops responding. I can still access via putty / webmin. The best I can see it, it seems that apache 2 opens too many child processes and chokes the system. My reasoning for this is:-Though I have max child set to 20 with a keep alive of 30 there are dozens of child processes 'apache2 -k start' running, some of which were started 9.5 hours ago.

-I can stop apache, though that doesn't kill these child processes. I can terminate the parent process which does kill the child processes, however restarting apache after killing the child processes results in a system crash. Rebooting the server remotely after apache has stopped responding also results in a server crash. That is NO response on any port.I would be happy to display any pertinent server config/logs etc if anyone can help me troubleshoot this?

Hardware :: Can Two Computers Access An External HD Via USB Simultaneously

Would this work with an external USB drive and a normal USB hub? Or is it something more complicated/impossible?

Also connecting the machines via network is not possible - it has to be USB, or I can connect it to one machine also via Ethernet but the second connection has to be USB.

I try to plug in a drive via a USB port and it doesn't appear to mount automatically, as it does on the desktop version. Questions: 1) What/where should I be looking for to see if the drive is mounted? (I've looked in /dev and /media; no dice.) 2) What's the mount command I should use to manually mount the external hard drive? 3) What backup commands or programs, other than rsync, are recommended? Software :: External Hard Drive Won't Work With Other Computers

Jan 25, 2010

I've installed Linux to a portable hard drive with the assumption that I would be able to transfer that hard drive to my other computers and be able to boot into Linux from them. I know for a fact that these computers are capable of running the same linux installed on the portable HDD via LiveCD or LiveUSB flash drive.

However, when I try to start my portable hard drive on any computer other than the one I installed it on, it boots to a black screen and stays that way indefinitely.

So, I would like to know how to make my portable hard drive more versatile, and to automatically adapt to different computers during boot.

I know it's not an issue with httpd since the service starts and runs with no problems.Firewall is configured to allow port 80, and my hardware firewall will forward port 80 to my FC server.

Ubuntu Servers :: Apache - Execute A Bash Script That Uploads A File To Another Server Through A Website?

Sep 20, 2010

I have a web server in my kitchen with apache running on it. Since the upload speed is quite low due to my isp I would like to execute a bash script that uploads a file to another server through a website (which is htaccess protected) The idea in general: Someone with access to my website browses through a folder, copies a file path to an input form and presses "upload". Rather than executing a bash script directly I could have a cron job running in background that finds the path and then uploads the file to the other server I have userspace on and is accessible via sftp/ssh. The file would be than erased later after a couple of days or so. That person would be able to access the file with higher speed some time later without logging in via ssh and doing all that manually.
