I have a wireless network (192.168.1.0) that's bridged to the Internet and a wired one (192.168.0.0) that's only local. When I am connected to both networks, Natty wants to route my Internet traffic through the wired, local-only one.
Can I make it automatically "just work", so that the right network is chosen for Internet traffic? Otherwise, what's the workaround?
Background infoMy laptop (MySN MG6.c) is dual-booted with Windows 7 and Ubuntu 9.10, and connected to the internet through a router (Digitus DN-11004-O), which is set-up to use DHCP. I upgraded to 10.10 the day it came out, and haven't had any problems with internet stuff. My wireless card works without any proprietary drivers. Last night, the computer stopped connecting to the internet. I am still connected to my wifi network, but I can't do anything online. I had assumed that my internet connection was just down in general, and tried resetting the computer, shutting down the computer and then turning it on again, and rebooting the modem, but then my Xbox connected, and my laptop running 10.04 connected, so I'm confused as to what is going in. Any ideas?

I installed ubuntu 9.10 on my laptop a few days ago and love the OS so far. However, initially i could only get internet connection though an ethernet cord. After much internet searching, i finally figured out how to get wireless internet. Unfortunately, in setting up wireless internet, I no longer have wired internet. The system doesn't seem to recognize my wired internet anymore. I'd like a scenario where i can connect to the internet both wired and wireless.

I tried to download the drivers for it and it failed everytime. I did an update thinking that the update might fix the wireless, but it didn't, it actually made my wired connection stop working. View 1 Replies View RelatedOn the 25th of January, one of my computers randomly stopped being able to connect to the Internet. It was running a dual boot (Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS & Windows XP SP2), and is connected to the network via an ethernet cable (no wireless). According to the Network Manager, everything is working okay (there was no change from when I was able to access the Internet).
When I would use Firefox, I would get the message "Waiting for (page)...". However, this is not a Firefox only problem, as every program requiring Internet access (e.g. Evolution) is unable to connect to the Internet.
I compared the Internet settings to those of my father's Windows XP SP1 computer, which is able to connect to the Internet. There was no difference, except for the IP Address and Hardware Address. Because of this, I incorrectly deduced that either the actual Ethernet cable or the wall plug was faulty. I tried using a different cable and connecting to the Ethernet wall plug used by the aforementioned computer. Nothing changed. I was still unable to connect.
I didn't worry about it until Tuesday, when my other computer had exactly the same problem. It is running a triple boot between Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS, Ubuntu 9.04 and Windows XP SP2, and I am unable to obtain Internet access using any partition. As with the previous case, my computer showed no change in the Internet settings, and the computer also shows it as being connected to the network. It is also connected via an Ethernet cable.
I have a Toshiba Satellite L505D-GS6000, and I installed Ubuntu before and it worked flawlessly until I decided that I had to go back to Win7 because of certain program compatibility issues.I'm back here trying to set it up and am having no issues except for with my wireless. I can see all of the SSID's, I am able to connect to my wireless, and it displays that I have been assigned an IP and all of the other settings given by DHCP.
I have been trying to fix this for hours, googled, searched these forums, and have spent time with some people on the Ubuntu IRC channel and we are unable to come up with a fix.

The strange thing is that although nothing will load when I try to visit facebook.com, google.com, or any other website... I opened the update manager and I noticed that it would download for 30ish seconds, stop and do nothing for 60ish seconds, resume for another 30, stop, resume, etc. until it finished. I am able to ping my router, and 8.8.8.8, but I am unable to ping [URL].
I am running Ubuntu 10.10 on a Dell Dimension 4700 desktop computer. I just upgraded to 10.10 from the previous version after getting my D-Link wireless adapter back after loaning it out. My internet now won't stay connected. I can connect when I firstrn on the computer, with after 2-5 minutes it drops the connection and gives me the "Wireless Network Authentication Required" prompt. It won't connect again without unplugging the adapter and plugging it back in.I borrowed a Belkin wirelss adapter to try it, and it does the exact same thing. PLEASE can someone help me, I really need the internet up on the computer(Also, when I first got the adapter-- while running the old version of Ubuntu-- it would not recognize or connect at all and I spent 4 hours messing with drivers and settings to get it to work, which it did flawlessly. I am using a wimax modem, the wireless is connected (have IP addresses) but I do not have access to the internet.I also have installed a windows XP as a guest OS (ubuntu is the host) on vmware. I am currently using wireless; I connect to ISP with wireless but in order to access the internet I have connect to the wireless connection through my broadband connection(This is where I enter a user name and password.). I'm not sure why this is, I have always just plugged an Ethernet cable in and the computer just knew I guess.

For the last 3 or so hours I have been trying in vain to simply give my mobile phone wifi internet access from my netbook. I have tried to google and follow some howto's and guides, but they're either too old or don't explain it very well. I'm fairly new to use of Linux and of wireless networks, but can handle setting them up in Windows. So basically, having said that, I believe I mostly understand how this whole thing is supposed to work theoretically but I just feel as though I lack the experience to jump the wireless hurdle AND the Linux hurdle at the same time. I have provided some information below.
- Setup is based on Lucid netbook remix install with a Maverick kernel update due to lack of driver support for wireless NIC - I can confirm wireless does work properly for connection purposes
- I followed [URL] and kind of followed [URL however I couldn't even tell how to run Network Manager, even though Synaptic tells me it is installed
- When I ran into problems trying to install ipmasq I found [URL] and followed what the response told me to which allowed me to restart the dnsmasq and the dhcp3-server at least
- I have restarted the entire netbook several times throughout the process.
today i installed ubuntu 10.10 on my hp mini 210 netbook. previously i had ubuntu netbook remix running and had no problem accessing the internet both wired and wireless; however, since installing 10.10 i have been searching for a solution for the last six hours but have been unable to get either to work.
as far as hardware is concerned i have a broadband bcm4313 802.11 network controller and am running through a linksys router which i know to be working because i have 4 other computers connected to it all with internet access. i checked ifconfig and a lo conection was listed but no eth0. i also tried downloading a broadband tar.gz driver but dont have any packages to build it and cant get any since the computer has no internet. i assume wired is easiest to setup so lets start there even though i use wireless 90% of the time. im new to linux so please dont expect me to know any terminal commands.
I installed Fedora 15 today and after a few very long hours finally got the broadcom driver to work and my laptop is now connected to my router. Yay! But now when I try going to a website in firefox it says server not found. I can ping anything inside my network but when I try to ping outside the network, for example google, it says ping: unknown host google.com. So I thought it might be a DNS problem but the network settings point to the router for DNS so I'm not sure what else could be wrong. All of the other settings look correct.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis morning my Ubuntu 10.10 Meerkat desktop suddenly lost internet connection, but stayed connected to my netgear router. After the usual "tried turning it off and on again" methods didn't work, I booted into my Win Vista partition to find that connected no problem. I have another Ubuntu netbook and a Windows 7 laptop in the house as well as an Android. These all connect fine. It appears to be just the desktop Ubuntu.
I can ping my router 192.168.0.1 and log into it's UI via browser. I can also ssh to the box. My router does not do any filtering or blocking. I've tried disabling the firewall and changing the nameservers in /etc/network/interfaces and dhclient.conf as well as the network manager. The network card is a Belkin 54g but I can't remember the exact model no. it was bought years ago.

I think something weird is going on. On a fresh installation of 11.04, I seem to be connected to my router just fine, but I can't reach the internet or anywhere else on my network. Anybody see my problem from what I've posted? The computer is only connected via wireless (so I don't know why eth0 would be connected as well).
