Ubuntu :: Send To In Lucid Using Thunderbird Won't Work?
Sep 14, 2010
I am running Lucid with Thunderbird 3.1. I can't make the Send To feature (right click on a file in Nautilus) work. It seems to send a file but the file doesn't go to the designated email address. I don't have TB designated as the default email, because I don't know how to do that

i'm on Ubuntu, running Mozilla Thunderbird 3.1.10 (I installed it in the last few weeks, so its a recent version)...I'm having regular / ongoing problems with emails not sending. or LOOOONG delays before i press the 'send' button & when its actually sent (Usually i 'send later' & it gets sent when i next login...)At the bottom right of the screen - I see a 'line' thats moving - Constantly, I gather this shows up when Thunderbird is actually doing something....QUESTION :- How do I find out what Thunderbird is actually doing / waiting for ? QUESTION :- How can i *FORCE* thunderbird to tell me whats happening ?- Incorrect password- Is it looking for a server ?- Has it found the server ? - tried a password - Is password incorrect ?- if the password is incorrect, Or server is incorrect, force it to tell me an error message (other than an ambiguous "problem found..." error..)Also, tell me within MINUTES or as soon as the problem is identified - rather than waiting 20+30+60+2 hours (until i give up andf manually force it to stop...)

I'm having trouble to send and receive e-mail using Thunderbird 3. When I tried setting up new account using the automatic configuration method,the result of scanning pop. and smtp. server returned 'none' with this orange circle. I assume it's the same problem that occurred when I first tried to install Evolution. But oddly,I manage to access the web-mail account provided by the ISP using the same information used to set-up Evolution and Thunderbird 3. Precisely I'm from Malaysia and the ISP is Streamyx.com. PC run on Ubuntu 9.10.And I've heard that the ISP is non-friendly of non standard e-mail applications.

I have a desktop that has been running Ubuntu for years. Finally I convinced my wife to get rid of windows XP and move to Lucid. I did a clean install of Lucid on her system writing over windows. After the install I installed Thunderbird using Synaptic Version 3.0.6 was installed on her system. On my desktop I am also running Thunderbird 3.0.6 We have several domains and mail servers on those domains.
They all use SMTP First, I installed the ISP email and that works perfectly. She can send and receive using our ISP's mail server. I then set up an email account in Thunderbird using the SMTP email server form one of our domains. She used to be able to send and receive from for one of our domains. She can receive email from that email server, but can not send (I can send and receive from the same domain using Thunderbird) Her SMTP and mine are set up identically:
Server Name: mail.[domain]
Port: 50
Username: [user]@[domain]
Secure Authentication: No
Connection Security: No
She is able to receive email but when she tries to send. the connection in Thunderbird either times out. or gives a password error. The password is correct, because we can use Firefox, and go to the pop and log in.Also, she can receive email direct on her computer and has to log in using her password. So I opened Terminal and tested using:
telnet mail.[domain] 50
I got
Trying [IP address]
Connected to mail.[domain]
Escape character is '^']'.
220 mail.[domain]
This leads me to believe something in Ubuntu is blocking her system from using Thunderbird to send emails through the email server. I've been at this for several days now. I did try totally un-installing Thunderbird using Synaptic. Then manually deleting the .Thunderbird file. Then doing a fresh install of Thunderbird using Synaptic. Still get the same results I am thinking that maybe App Armor is stopping this? Or perhaps some other security issue in Ubuntu like Linux Security Module? Otherwise the installation went flawlessly. We even got Skype working on the first try! Printers installed correctly and perfectly too.

Clean install Ubuuntu 10.04 on SONY VAIO VGN-NS105N.
I can't get either Evolution or Thunderbird programs to send or receive.
I have Ubuntu 9.04 installed in another partition and everything works there. I carefully copied the setup from 9.04 to 10.04.
Of course the Internet is connected, and "Network Tools" work as advertised.
I am wondering if I am alone with this problem, or are there others?

Using Thunderbird 3.1.10 and no longer can see copies of my sent messages in the Sent Folder. I tried to tick the box in account settings to save a copy and it would not take the change. What I did notice is that the e-mails sent are being received on the other end, but I do not have a copy in the Sent folder. It seems as though my e-mail account has been hijacked, and I changed my e-mail account password as a precaution. I am also getting e-mail BACK in my in box that I sent to other people. My AT&T account uses yahoo and my account through AT&T was originally bellsouth.net What can I do to make sure I get a copy of all of my e-mail sent out?

My company email server has been working flawlessly for the last 5+ years. Recently, one of our clients put their email server behind a firewall (an assumption on my part; details below). Ever since, email sent from within the company (192.168.xxx.xxx internal address; all computers and server is behind a NAT firewall [Netgear FVX538]) is either being sent to the client after some delay (if email is sent using Outlook) or is being deferred until the messages expire (Thunderbird, Squirrelmail, etc.). Email sent to the client from anywhere outside the company (using Thunderbird, Outlook or any other email client) is also delivered without any problems (usually after a short delay).
All other emails to the World are being sent without any problems at all (both inside and outside the company; using any email client or webmail). I did contact the client's postmaster, but the client, being a large government agency, will probably not address the problem (if it is on their side) anytime soon. I am not sure if I can do anything from my end to solve the problem. Ever since the problem with the client began, I added two statements to the postfix configuration file (smtp_pix_workaround_delay_time = 20s and smtp_pix_workaround_threshold_time = 0s); this seemed to a bit - it reduced the delay for emails sent via Outlook to a few minutes (as opposed to 30+ minutes); emails sent using Thunderbird/webmail are still being deferred.
Server details: Dual quad-core processor machine, 32 GB RAM, dual 1 gbps network, running Fedora 14 (64-bit; loosely modeled along the lines of Perfect Server (with ISPConfig2) as described on the howtoforge website). Running Postfix (v. 2.7.1), Dovecot (v. 2.0.9).
Postfix details:
alias_database = hash:/etc/aliases
alias_maps = hash:/etc/aliases
body_checks = regexp:/etc/postfix/mbl-body-deny
broken_sasl_auth_clients = yes
command_directory = /usr/sbin
[code]....
I emailed the client's postmaster suggesting they disable smtp fixup. But still, what bothers me now is that Outlook works (both within and outside the company) while Thunderbird, webmail, etc. (used by ~90% of the users) do not. In addition, all email clients from outside the company can send email (authenticated via the company server) to the client without any problems. Is there anything I can do on my end to make non-Outlook clients work within the company (webmail is hosted on the company server; so, it would have an internal address as well)?

I notice the repository Thunderbird version is 3.0.5 but 3.1 is already released. I'm on 3.0.4 and it took me forever to find a compatible version of the Lightning extension, which I really need.Now I am afraid to upgrade to anything older than 3.1 because it might break Lightning, and I'm afraid to upgrade to 3.1 because maybe there's a reason it's not in the official repository yet (and because who knows if the latest version of Lightning really is compatible with the latest version of Thunderbird). My question is, is anybody out there currently running Thunderbird 3.1 with the Lightning extension on Kubuntu or Ubuntu 10.04, AMD64? Have you found it to be stable?

I am using Lucid Lynx (10.04.1) and I use Thunderbird from the official Ubuntu-Mozilla PPAs:
[URL]
I see that each release of Ubuntu has only one supported version of Thunderbird - in case of Lucid Lynx it is 3.0 series. Is it possible for me to upgrade to 3.1 on Lucid Lynx through this official channel? I don't want the other two solutions to achieve this:
1. Download the latest Thunderbird directly from Mozilla website (No. Updating it manually for the next release is a pain and I don't want to get into it)
2. Upgrade to Maverick (No. I prefer LTS releases and want to stick to Lucid)

I have set up postfix and dovecot as per the Ubuntu anual and appear to have a functioning mail server.Using the sendmail command I can send mail and I receive mail in ~/Maildir. Using Thunderbird I can read any mails received but I can't send any mail from Thunderbird. I have tried with both STARTTLS and SSL/TLS and whilst I get the prompt for a password I keep getting the message my password for my server is wrong.I have ports 25, 465, 587 and 993. Is that all the right ports?When I ping my domain name it resolves to my router name whereas I believe it should resolve to my IP. Could there be a problem with my host file? I've had a play but to no avail.Here's the error in mail.log.

i have done this once before, but recently suffered corrupted profile.i have a dual-boot system, windows vista and ubuntu on one physical disc (hdo, seperate partitions). i have another physical disc (hd1) that has an ntfs partition, and on it are stored my firefox and thunderbird profiles.when i use firefox and thunderbird in windows, both profiles are on the hd1 drive (email, bookmarks, etc.)in ubuntu, i have the ntfs partition on hd1 automount, so that i can use it.
in ubuntu: i have made thunderbird share the thunderbird profile on this partition (hd1), but recently, trying to set up the profilemanager to access this has caused me problems and while starting thunderbird, i see all my emails for a brief second (in the inbox), and then they disappear.i am using the latest thunderbird from the unmaintained repositories (3.0.5), but i don't have a problem reverting back to an older version...i use it for gmail, so the folder i point profilemanager to is:/media/sdb1/Mozilla Profiles/Thunderbird/Mail/pop. gmail.com/Mail/pop.gmail.com
this is where my inbox, sent items are stored.can anyone give advice on how to get this profile to work well with thunderbird in ubuntu ? i have read the mozillazine help pages, but it's not specific to my situation because i am trying to share a profile i have moved to a seperate location ..

I just migrated from debian testing to ubuntu 10.04 since the newly introduced thunderbird 3.0.4 did not work with enigmail anymore and i need that to read about half of my e-mails. Now, it doesn't work on ubuntu either. I have the version (of the distribution) 1.0.1 of enigmail installed. In the testing version i also deinstalled it and downloaded the version given by the addons. Still didn't work.
If i start from command-line, i get:
Quote:
Saying Enigmime-Service is not available. Usually i get a window saying the same thing each mail i open.

i have ubuntu 10.04 installed and i haven't touched anything apparently relevant in its configuration. many times, when an application opens a new window and this should receive focus, it doesn't. for example, i'm in mozilla thunderbird and i click on "write" to write a new message, and i keep waiting, "why does it take so much to open???" - until i realised that the new message window was immediately opened but it didn't get focus, it is just blinking (in a barely pereivable way) in the panel on the bottom and i have to click on it to give it focus. it is not just thunderbird - just about any program, but not always. sometimes the same happens when switching some flash player web application to fullscreen mode (such as videos or megavideo): the full screen does not appear, i have to click on the icon on the panel on the bottom.
sometimes, even more weired behaviour are observed. for example, let's suppose i have windows a, b and c open and none of them is minimized. i'll call "icon" a window's button on the bottom panel. i click alternatively on icons of windows a, b, c, a, b, c and so on. expected: every time i click on a window's icon, the window should get focus and be brought to the front. observed: when i get to window a, it toggles its state from open to minimized and viceversa, that is, when i switch from c to a, it does as if i was already on a, so instead of bringing it to front, it minimizes it; then next time i come back to a, it gets restored.

Some time ago I did an automatic update and after that firefox, thunderbird and yast2 don't start. It's not that there is an error message or sth. Their icons just start jumping and after a while it stops without anything opened. I tried even removing the zilla directories and so on but it doesn't help. Of course I tried to simply reboot the machine and strangely enough, still does not work. Opera works though and I am ok with that, however yast2 not opening is more annoying. I do all the stuff that I want from the console, but of course that's not the point

after updating to fedora 15, the http links in Thunderbird doesn't work.I have tried many solutions, but without result.
- in prefs.js add :user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.ftp", "/usr/bin/firefox");
user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.http", "/usr/bin/firefox");
user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.https", "/usr/bin/firefox");- I have tried it with KDE and GNOME.
- move .thunderbird to .thunderbird.backup and reopen thunderbird. But still same problem.
- When I create a new user it works correctly! So I think it must be related to the update.
- I also change the default application (in System Settings) to google-chrome and Opera. But no result.
- http-links in other application (dolphin, nautilus, ...) works correctly

I'm running a server with Ubuntu 10.04 and I have installed postfix and courier. The server can recieve mail and I can fetch them using POP, but when I try to send mail it doesn't work. Postfix itself can send email if i telnet from localhost and I am using my ISP as a relay because they block port 25. I'm using outlook 2007 on my client computer and it just says that the server rejects the login attempt and tells me to check my username and password. Postfix listens on port 12 as well because the client connection also has outgoing on port 25 blocked. I have tried to use telnet to connect to the server, and I can connect. This is what I get:
[Code]....
Now what? I've tried searching for the answer but all I can come up with is AUTH PLAIN or AUTH LOGIN, but I don't know what to type after that.

Thanks to Lucid not working properly on i845, i855 and other 8xx chips, had to re-install Karmic on my mum's computer.I saved all the data from her old install and I ve managed to get all her old emails from thunderbird, but I cant import her address book.In Thunderbird/tools/import/addressbooks it only allows importing of LDIF, .tab, .csv and .txt files, but I cant find any of these files in any of the Thunderbird, .Thunderbird, Mozilla-Thunderbird or Mozilla folders in Home folder or anywhere, all I can find is "abook.mab" which IS supposed to be her address book, but when I try and import it the entries are blank and/or indecipherable (prob cos not a compatible file type).
Its one of those "simple" things to do, thats taken hours and hours of time, but that I cant actually find out how to do.

I had a portable apps version of Thunderbird (windows) that runs off a thumb drive and wanted to take the settings and transfer them to my Thunderbird that's on my Linux computer.
This is what I did:
First, I installed thunderbird on my Ubuntu 10.04 Linux box and opened it, and closed it (so that it would create the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder in the user account).
Then, I renamed the linux /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder to .thunderbird_ORIGINAL
Then, I created a new /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder
Then, I took the windows e:ThunderbirdPortableDataprofile folder and copied it to the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder.
Then, I looked into the /home/<username>/.thunderbird_ORIGINAL folder and wrote down the name of the folder with the ".default" extension.
Then, I renamed the profile folder (that came from the windows e:ThunderbirdPortableData folder) "<name-I-wrote-down>.default".
And then, I copied the profiles.ini folder from /home/<username>/.thunderbird_ORIGINAL to the /home/<username>/.thunderbird folder.
I opened up Thunderbird in Linux and everything seems fine! (I'll definitely be keeping a backup just in case)
My question is: is this fine and dandy, or a recipe for disaster?

I initially downloaded Lucid as a 32 bit RC and loaded it on an old desktop to see what it looked like. As it worked a treat I downloaded the AMD64 bit final release and downloaded this to my laptop.
In each instance I loaded the restricted extras and also checked that adobe flash was loaded as flash was a problem with the BBC iPlayer before.
I can listen to the iPlayer on the 32 bit RC but not on the 64 bit final. Can anyone offer guidance on this.
PS. Trying the 32 bit RC on the laptop I was able to listen OK.

I've been having this problem since 10.6 released, but have until now been successful with the "just use Thunderbird" response. My sendmail server hasn't been changed, but as clients upgrade from OSX 10.5 to 10.6 suddenly mail.app will no longer connects to send SMTP messages through the server. (IMAP connections to the same server using the same user/pass combinations work perfectly) When I look at the logs, things basically stop right after the STARTTLS command.
Google indicates alot of people are having similar problems, but I'm not seeing any solutions. Do any of you administrate sendmail servers where some of your clients are using Apple's Mail.app on Snow Leopard, and if so what settings are you using? At this point, I'm happy to make changes to the server to accommodate Apple's issue, I have too many Mac users connecting to my server. I just can't figure out what to change. I've enabled virtually every possible login authentication combination, and none of them work.
