Had to do a fresh install of 10.04 as upgrade went pear shaped. Now I cannot get hunderbird 3.0.4 to work just keeps timing out trying to access mail server pop.1and1.co.uk.Had to change some Firefox options to get it to work with any site other than google.Noticed that ping pop.1and1.co.uk sometimes gave a bad address until I disabled IPv6.

I have set up postfix and dovecot as per the Ubuntu anual and appear to have a functioning mail server.Using the sendmail command I can send mail and I receive mail in ~/Maildir. Using Thunderbird I can read any mails received but I can't send any mail from Thunderbird. I have tried with both STARTTLS and SSL/TLS and whilst I get the prompt for a password I keep getting the message my password for my server is wrong.I have ports 25, 465, 587 and 993. Is that all the right ports?When I ping my domain name it resolves to my router name whereas I believe it should resolve to my IP. Could there be a problem with my host file? I've had a play but to no avail.Here's the error in mail.log.

I am trying to install Mozilla Thunderbird email client. When I configure this program, it defaults to IMAP4-type incoming mail server (Port 143) instead of POP3 (Port 110) which my ISP uses. I did not see POP3 anywhere in the available dialog boxes. Is there any way to get Thunderbird to use POP3 in opensuse 11.2 Gnome Edition?
View 3 Replies View RelatedSeems quite a lot out there are finding it simple enough getting Thunderbird/Davmail to work, yet I've been at it for days now and still no luck. I've finally given up altogether with Evolution last week, as it seems from weeks of reading and trying, there just isn't a solution for it to work with Exchange Server mail. Yes I tried brutus and its web sites are down so to get additions such as Brutus Keyring is impossible. (its all a long story for another day)Evolution is now uninstalled and in the bin.So now Im into the 5th day trying with Davmail and Thunderbird to get emails from my company mail exchange server.I am sure Im going to have better luck with Thunderbird from what Ive read so far, but it still eludes me how to set it up with Devmail and the information Ive found so far is not very clear. I am sure I am just missing the most simplest step somewhere along the line.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Dovecot version dovecot-1.0.7 on CentOS 5.4. I'm trying to create subfolders and I can't. I've tried Mac's mail application and Thunderbird; they both come up with an error, basically saying that the server doesn't support level one folders(subfolders). Squirrelmail can't create subfolders neither. I did some reading and thought that perhaps the problem lies in the /etc/dovecot.conf file; specifically with the "mail_location" directive. I currently don't have that directive active which means Dovecot uses defaults settings: saving users' mail in the %u/mail folder. Is there any way to configure Dovecot to use subfolders?

I just installed my first ever install of Linux (used Fedora) and am using SSH to access it from my Windows machine. It keeps timing out. Is there something I need to set to make it available all the time?
I was able to get the SSH on and to autostart just fine but when I boot up it only works half of the time. I have to move the mouse and keyboard on the Linux machine before it will respond.
Also if I am working on my Windows machine and don't move the mouse or keyboard every now and then it doesn't work.
i have a squid proxy on a centos 5.4 64 Bit machine.
i can share internet on my other boxes hosting centos 32 bit and windows by entering the proxy server IP in the network proxy (centos) internet explorer (windows).
but i cannot get mails on my thunderbird client behind the proxy even though i have included ports 110 and 25 in the squid. i v heard it cannot do it as squid is not imap proxy.
I have two nagging problems on one network which I do not have on another elsewhere, both using uptodate Debian servers. The server is on the private subnet behind a router/adsl modem. The symptoms of the one which does not work
1) Users cannot access their web site from lan. If they try, they get to the router web interface, same as if they entered http:10.0.0.138 which is the router's lan address.
2) Users cannot access smtp or pop3 service using the domain name, they can access it only using the servers LAN address.
I fear that I might have not set up the router properly because appart from that the two servers are almost identical but I do not know where I might have made an error.
My offie machine is running a version of RedHat Enterporise Linux, and at home I am running Fedora 11. I am tryto configure my office machine so that I can use it as an outgoing mail server for my home machine using port 587. I've made the changes to sendmail.mc which are supposed to enable this, and nmap run on my home machine shows that port 587 is open on my office machine for submission. Also telnet office-machine 587 gives me exactly the same dialog as does telnet office-machine 25.So I think I am on the righ t track. But I haven't been able to configure either evolution or thunderbird on my home machine so it uses my offie machine as outgoing mail server. I've tried absolutely every possible configuration of those programs and none of them works. But I do have some additional bit of information. If I configure t hunderbird to use name and password Use secure authetication C onnection security None, then I am asked to enter a password, but nothing I try works.
The one bit of additional information is the following message in /var/log/messages on my office machine sendmail[28289]: unable to open Berkeley db /etc/sasldb2: No such file or directory That is indeed true. There is no such file. What does this mean, and is there something I can add to deal with the problem?
If I choose SSL/TLS for connection security instead, I get a connected to message which sits there working and eventually times out. When it does. /var/log/maillog says that sendmails tells me that my home machine "did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to MSA"
I don't know if that tells me anything or just means that nothing happened. I had no trouble using evolution or thunderbird with my office machine as outgoing server at port 25, but comcast has been blocking that port forquite a while now. I have been using comcast's mailserver as my sntpm outgoing mailserver on pport 587 during this time, and that works fine.

When connecting with Thunderbird imap is working fine. When sending email from another domain to this domain again it is fine. But when I want to send mail from my domain to another it gives me error and this is /var/log/maillog:

Problem:
Clicking "Read Mail" does nothing, whereas clicking "Compose Message" opens Thunderbird as expected. Thunderbird is properly configured under "System Settings > Default Apps > Email Client".
Whereas, switching the default email client back to Kmail results in the Get Mail "read mail" and "compose message" functions properly opening Kmail in both instances.
This problem occurred for me before (when using openSUSE v11.1 and earlier versions of the apps), but I don't recall how I eventually solved it, or whether it was resolved via an update of one of the above apps/extensions. Nonetheless, I'm now confronted by the very same problem again.
After reloading my OS my e-mail backups are all in Sbd and msf files, but Thunderbird 3.1.10 seems to only import e-mails from Communicator. Is there a solution for this to :enable me to import my e-mails?

I tried to connect with Thunderbird and Kmail. Kmal brings up an error message eventually, saying something about a time-out.

I searched everything & everywhere only to see that more people have that same error message come up with Squirrelmail. From my understanding some have fixed the issue but I couldn't actually find a solution to this.

I'm experiencing an occasional frustration using Evolution with my work email which is on an MS Exchange 2003 server.Everything usually works well enough, but from time to time I'll try to retrieve a message,Is there a setting I've missed in Evolution that might take care of this, or some other workaround?Let me re-emphasize that the server is a 2003 Exchange server (and a source of endless frustration for a non-windows user). It's not a 2007 or 2010 Exchange server, which is what most companies use these days.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have 5 mailboxes provided by my ISP, which I have been using since 2005 with IMAP.1 month ago my Thunderbird client under both 9.04 (desktop) and 9.10 (laptop) started refusing to delete any incoming mail in one of my mailboxes (but not in the other 4).
Error message: "(...) Mail server responded: System I/O Error" 1 week ago, same problem for another mailbox (but not for the other 3), again affecting both machines. Evolution does delete incoming mail on these 2 mailboxes, no issues at all. Have googled, found only one solution (imap folder corrupt), but nothing makes sense.
Ok, so I've done a clean install of 10.04 over 9.1 and despite a couple of issues am very impressed. The thing that's currently bugging me most is that I can't set the chat/mail/broadcast panel menu thing to use thunderbird for mail. Is there any way to do this, or do I need to have thunderbird as a separate icon?

How can I time out the wget command in the script if it doesn't give me a reply in a minute or so?
I'm using Ubuntu Lucid 64bit. Thunderbird 2 had an add-on for new mail icon notification in the tray, but I haven't yet found a working replacement for Thunderbird 3.
