i have a squid proxy on a centos 5.4 64 Bit machine.
i can share internet on my other boxes hosting centos 32 bit and windows by entering the proxy server IP in the network proxy (centos) internet explorer (windows).
but i cannot get mails on my thunderbird client behind the proxy even though i have included ports 110 and 25 in the squid. i v heard it cannot do it as squid is not imap proxy.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have set up postfix and dovecot as per the Ubuntu anual and appear to have a functioning mail server.Using the sendmail command I can send mail and I receive mail in ~/Maildir. Using Thunderbird I can read any mails received but I can't send any mail from Thunderbird. I have tried with both STARTTLS and SSL/TLS and whilst I get the prompt for a password I keep getting the message my password for my server is wrong.I have ports 25, 465, 587 and 993. Is that all the right ports?When I ping my domain name it resolves to my router name whereas I believe it should resolve to my IP. Could there be a problem with my host file? I've had a play but to no avail.Here's the error in mail.log.

I have eth0 which is where my internet comes in and eth1 which is my local network 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0.
My default firewall policy is to drop input output and forward, i have already set my firewall to accept and workout the squid and it is working.

I readed the Docs on the squid page but the above rules can't be reproduced to 3.1 and i don't wish to use such rules to make it transparent or hidden so i want some help to figure out why it inst transparent.
I currently have the set up as shown below: [Internet] - [Gateway Appliance] - [Squid Server] - Client Workstations.
I have configured squid 3.1.6 on Ubuntu 10.10 and have got it working. However, When I add the line:
forwarded_for transparent The HTTP Header should remain unaltered (This is my understanding anyway).
What I want to achieve is that when a Client computer connects via the Squid server, it is routed via the Gateway Appliance and out onto the internet. But using the forwarded_for transparent I want the content filter list, to show the source computer as a client IP address and NOT the IP of the squid server.
Is this possible, if so could someone point me in the right direction onto getting it working.

Both programs are for http but I am curious if they would work for TCP servers that do not serve webpages.

Now I cannot get hunderbird 3.0.4 to work just keeps timing out trying to access mail server pop.1and1.co.uk.Had to change some Firefox options to get it to work with any site other than google.Noticed that ping pop.1and1.co.uk sometimes gave a bad address until I disabled IPv6.

My set up is something like this
adsl wireless router(static ip from ISP) - (192.168.0.1/24) Cent os server (10.1.1.1/8) - switch/hub - clients(windows XP/Vista,Linux)
the linux server acts as a Web Server,DHCP and Squid proxy server
Will installing an email server resolve my problem?

The server is in my local network.
I tried to connect with Thunderbird and Kmail. Kmal brings up an error message eventually, saying something about a time-out.
Squirrelmail says code...
I searched everything & everywhere only to see that more people have that same error message come up with Squirrelmail. From my understanding some have fixed the issue but I couldn't actually find a solution to this.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

Ok, so I've done a clean install of 10.04 over 9.1 and despite a couple of issues am very impressed. The thing that's currently bugging me most is that I can't set the chat/mail/broadcast panel menu thing to use thunderbird for mail. Is there any way to do this, or do I need to have thunderbird as a separate icon?

The Question I am asking is there any way that some one could get in to my email client Thunderbird or Firefox. When I used thunderbird to report the e mail I received a problem reporting that my email couldn,t be sent due to AOL smpt not excepting email because of ssl encrpyption. I checked the settings for the account all seemed ok ssl was still marked. Also while I was on the internet yesterday I got the popup regarding did I want to save a "file" I canceled as I didn,t click anything to download anything.

I'm having problems with squid, and i don't know how to solve them because I'm new to linux. a. Why squid in my computer often does not work? The process has already started (using the command sudo squid start), but the Internet on client computers can not connect. This can be be resolved if the proxy server computer is restarted. b. How do I set the client bandwidth limitation using squid? I want the client computers can only use maximum 60-70 KB / s. Do I need another additional software package?
I have recently configured squid proxy server in rhel5 so now I am able to blocking some websites ok, but still I have one problem how can I block gtalk by using squid proxy, one more thing I blocked gmail so now client xp systems are not logging into gmail but still they using gtalk to chatting the things to others. View 2 Replies View RelatedI am at a loss. I can not access my work remote desktop via the terminal server client on my wired box running Ubuntu 10.10. My wireless laptop is able to connect right away once I established the VPN connection. The VPN connection is established on both boxes with no problems.
When I tried the Terminal Server Client on my wired boxed, it says it can not establish a connection. Yet my wireless box gets connected immediately!
I check the /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf and the /etc/resolv.conf to see if there were any differences, but they are essentially the same. When I have the vpnc connection, they both recognize it and I am able to ping the IP address shown when I do a "ifconfig" on the terminal.
What can be the problem? Anything I need to configure on a wired computer versus a wireless one? What else can I check?

But on CentOs , users couldn't login using nis username.I have mounted home directory using nfs in fstab . I can switch to nis users homedirectory only when i am root. But nis users could'nt login on reboot.' ypcat passwd username ' is showing the output . No selinux is enabled in the client .Is there is any problem with Suse server to Centos Client in nis ??
View 2 Replies View Relatedi have done this once before, but recently suffered corrupted profile.i have a dual-boot system, windows vista and ubuntu on one physical disc (hdo, seperate partitions). i have another physical disc (hd1) that has an ntfs partition, and on it are stored my firefox and thunderbird profiles.when i use firefox and thunderbird in windows, both profiles are on the hd1 drive (email, bookmarks, etc.)in ubuntu, i have the ntfs partition on hd1 automount, so that i can use it.
in ubuntu: i have made thunderbird share the thunderbird profile on this partition (hd1), but recently, trying to set up the profilemanager to access this has caused me problems and while starting thunderbird, i see all my emails for a brief second (in the inbox), and then they disappear.i am using the latest thunderbird from the unmaintained repositories (3.0.5), but i don't have a problem reverting back to an older version...i use it for gmail, so the folder i point profilemanager to is:/media/sdb1/Mozilla Profiles/Thunderbird/Mail/pop. gmail.com/Mail/pop.gmail.com

I just migrated from debian testing to ubuntu 10.04 since the newly introduced thunderbird 3.0.4 did not work with enigmail anymore and i need that to read about half of my e-mails. Now, it doesn't work on ubuntu either. I have the version (of the distribution) 1.0.1 of enigmail installed. In the testing version i also deinstalled it and downloaded the version given by the addons. Still didn't work.
If i start from command-line, i get:

I am running Lucid with Thunderbird 3.1. I can't make the Send To feature (right click on a file in Nautilus) work. It seems to send a file but the file doesn't go to the designated email address. I don't have TB designated as the default email, because I don't know how to do that
View 1 Replies View RelatedSome time ago I did an automatic update and after that firefox, thunderbird and yast2 don't start. It's not that there is an error message or sth. Their icons just start jumping and after a while it stops without anything opened. I tried even removing the zilla directories and so on but it doesn't help. Of course I tried to simply reboot the machine and strangely enough, still does not work. Opera works though and I am ok with that, however yast2 not opening is more annoying. I do all the stuff that I want from the console, but of course that's not the point
