Red Hat / Fedora :: HTTP Links In Thunderbird Doesn't Work

Jun 29, 2011

after updating to fedora 15, the http links in Thunderbird doesn't work.I have tried many solutions, but without result.
- in prefs.js add :user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.ftp", "/usr/bin/firefox");
user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.http", "/usr/bin/firefox");
user_pref("network.protocol-handler.app.https", "/usr/bin/firefox");- I have tried it with KDE and GNOME.
- move .thunderbird to .thunderbird.backup and reopen thunderbird. But still same problem.
- When I create a new user it works correctly! So I think it must be related to the update.
- I also change the default application (in System Settings) to google-chrome and Opera. But no result.
- http-links in other application (dolphin, nautilus, ...) works correctly

Ubuntu :: Thunderbird Won't Open Http Links In Browser / Only Https

Apr 30, 2010

When I click on an http link in Thunderbird, nothing at all happens. There's no error message on the console, there's no new browser starting, and there's no new tab opening with the browser already running.

I've tried: sudo update-alternatives --config x-www-browser, choosing firefox.I've also tried: adding a new string value to Thunderbird's warranty-voiding config: network.protocol-handler.app.http, with a value of /usr/bin/firefox. This was recommended in various threads. But no luck. There's an entry for https - firefox on the Attachment tab of the preferences, and https links are indeed opening in Firefox. But not http.KDE 4.4.2 itself has default mail client and browser set to Thunderbird 3.0.4 and Firefox 3.6.3 (both from the repositories, no website downloads).

Ubuntu :: Thunderbird Not Opening Links In Firefox?

Mar 30, 2010

I have been having trouble getting Thunderbird to open links within my emails. When a link is clicked there is no response at all. I am running firefox version 3.6.2 and Thunderbird 3.0.3. After surfing the interweb and the forums I have tried setting the default browser through Firefox itself and through the preferred applications GUI in Ubuntu with no luck. I have gone into the about:config for Thunderbird and added the following lines:

network.protocol-handler.app.http /usr/bin/firefox
network.protocol-handler.app.https /usr/bin/firefox

Ubuntu :: Getting Thunderbird To Open Links With Chromium?

Jan 19, 2011

I'm having trouble getting Thunderbird to open links using Chromium (chromium-browser).

The default browser is now set to chromium-browser in KDE system settings. I've also tweaked the Thunderbird config network.protocol-handler.app.http and https settings to use chromium-browser or /usr/bin/chromium-browser.

Despite this, Thunderbird keeps opening links in Firefox. I'm bewildered as to why.

One thought is possibly an old GNOME system setting (there are .gconf and .gnome2 directories in my home directory, though I no longer use GNOME or have it installed on my system). But I don't know and I would have thought the Thunderbird config would have overridden that in any case.

Slackware :: Thunderbird Links No Longer Working

Dec 24, 2010

So, approx 2 weeks ago, clicking on links in Thunderbird stopped working. There is no response in the browser whether it is open or not. I am able to paste the links to the browser just fine. Being congenitally lazy, I would rather just click them. I have upgraded to the latest version of Thunderbird and have the same issue. I have tried using Swiftfox, Firefox and Opera - all give the same non-response.

Am not getting any error messages, the links just do not open. Can't find any settings relevant to this issue.Any bright ideas out there?

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't View External IP Links To Http Server On Same Machine

Sep 1, 2011

I have an apache server running on my ubuntu machine. I can view them using my local ip (192.168.1.6):80/. And my friends can view the things hosted on my server using my external ip (example http://123.123.123.123:80) but when a friend links back to me to show me what they are looking at and share the moment, I can't view the link, it simply redirects to my router login page.

I had an older linksys router and this could work fine. I could click on the links with my external IP and it routes back to my server for viewing.

Remember to note that I am on the machine that has the server, and I'd like to be redirected out and back to it so we can share pictures back and fourth without me having to replace the external IP address with my local one just to view that link in the browser.

Fedora :: Some Links On A Website Don't Work In Firefox?

Apr 29, 2010

Recently Firefox is showing some but not all the links inside a page in a website that I use every day.Firefox had worked well in the past years with this site, so I made a few tests:- I tested the web page on Firefox 3.5.9 on Fedora 12. Some links missing.- I tested the same web page on IE8 on Windows Vista. No issues, all links there.- I tested the same web page downgrading Firefox to version 3.5.4 and downgrading the required libraries. Same issue, some links missing.- I compared the html code that the web server hands to both IE8 and Firefox. They are exactly the same.I don't know enough about html or javascript to understand why Firefox doesn't like some of this code portion.

Code:

Fedora Networking :: HTTP Does Not Work To Some Sites?

Apr 13, 2009

I can ping certain websites, such as Adobe.com, but I cannot access them via http (i.e. through firefox or yum). Some websites work through http, like Google, while others don't. The ones that don't are always the same.

What really hurts here is I cannot yum to all repos i'd like to. Since the same sites cannot be accessed through firefox, I imagine there is some underlying problem with my system's HTTP setup.

My windows machine on the same network works fine. I have had this problem since I installed Fedora 10 about 4 months ago. I'd rather not reinstall as nothing really seems broken (aside from this http issue), my system is completely up to date.

If I use a public proxy website I can get to the sites I can't connect to directly. I've followed a FAQ from mozilla for Firefox that hasn't helped, but I don't think its a Firefox issue since yum suffers as well. I also followed the fedora FAQ and I have been using OpenDNS servers.

General :: Links Don't Work After Mount?

Jul 26, 2010

I work in a lab when all the guys use PCs with Windows and access the lab linux servers via ssh.

I prefer linux, so I have a local installation of ubuntu 10.4 on my PC. I mount the home of our lab server using mount server:/home /mnt/home/. I can then access the files on the server (I had to change my local UID to match the one assigned to me on our server in order to be able to write to my home dir).

The problem is all the (symbolic) links I have on the server don't work when I access them through the mounted location. I guess the system simply tries following the link in my local /home instead on server:/home.

General :: Symbolic Links Between User Accounts - Cannot Get To Work

Jan 7, 2011

I have been using a cron job to duplicate a folder into another users account every day and someone suggested using symbolic links instead although I cannot get them to work. In summary user GAMER generates log files that they want to access via HTTP, however I only have a web-server in the user account SERVER, in the past I would copy the logs folder from GAMERS account into SERVER/public_html/. and then chmod the files so the server could access them. Trying to use symbolic links I set up a link from root (as only root can access both accounts) I used: ln -s /home/GAMER/game/logs/ /home/SERVER/public_html/logs

However it seems that only root can use this link, I tried chmoding the link, all the files in the gamers /game/logs/*, /game/logs itself to 777 as well as changing chown and chgrp to server the files still cannot be read. When viewed from servers account my shell shows the link and where it is to hi-lighted in black with red text. /home/GAMER/game/ (chmod & chgrp) drwxrwxrwx 3 SERVER SERVER 4096 2011-01-07 15:46 logs
/home/SERVER/public_html (chmod -h & chgrp -h)

Ubuntu :: [10.04] Links In Firefox Don't Work Until Move Mouse

May 4, 2010

It appears that clicking on a link in Firefox doesn't work until you move the mouse, i.e. if I put the mouse on a link and hold it stationary and click the link, nothing happens, but as soon as I move the mouse, the link then activates. Sometimes, I have to double click the link to get it to work. I've read some posts where people claim that Firefox "freezes" until you move the mouse. In my case, Firefox doesn't "freeze" in the traditional sense. It just that clicking a link doesn't behave properly as it should. I didn't have this problem in 8.04LTS (or previous distributions for that matter) only in 10.04LTS. I'm running the 32-bit version on a Dell Latitude D600 laptop with nvidia-common driver 0.2.23.

Ubuntu :: Links Browser Script - Automatically Fills In The Credentials On The Links Login Page?

Dec 6, 2010

At my Uni, we use a web-based login for our internet connections. Its based off of Cisco, and every Wednesday night every computer on campus must re-enter their credentials to use the network.

Normally on my several computers I simply pull up the Terminal, point links to google.com using

Code:

And enter my credentials when Cisco redirects to the login page.

Literally, the process is

Code:

Then ENTER to accept the redirect, down arrow to skip over the logo image, USERNAME, ENTER, PASSWORD, ENTER, ENTER.

Naturally, this is EXTREMELY time consuming, as I have about 5 computers located around campus and must physically walk to the machines and login every single week.

My question is, How would I formulate a program that does the following;

1) checks for connectivity (i.e. is able to reach/resolve to the greater part of the internet) and

2) automatically fills in the credentials on the links login page?

The lists are a fairly simple regex and fckeditor magically reformats the tables, so all I'm left with is the links. But I'm not a regex master. How do I reformat code...
