Id installed aptoncd on my lucid using the software center. When i want to use it, the aptoncd does not appear at all. when i run it using terminal, the output is this :

Is there a way to create aptoncd back up on a pen drive? Meaning when I insert a cd created with aptoncd an autorun dialog box appears asking if I want to start the package manager. But when I copy those files to a pen drive the above mentioned autorun feature doesn't work. In short I want my apt cache backup on a pen drive with the autorun feature.

I ran into some complications with my ubuntu 10.10 install and couldn't boot into the desktop. I decided to use a live CD to get access to my downloaded cached packages and copied them to my windows partition, now I've re-installed ubuntu and manually restored the apps into the /archives/ directory, I've installed a lot of apps from the directory already but AptOnCD has refused to properly reflect the apps I have there, is there something I'm overlooking?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI initially downloaded Lucid as a 32 bit RC and loaded it on an old desktop to see what it looked like. As it worked a treat I downloaded the AMD64 bit final release and downloaded this to my laptop.
In each instance I loaded the restricted extras and also checked that adobe flash was loaded as flash was a problem with the BBC iPlayer before.
I can listen to the iPlayer on the 32 bit RC but not on the 64 bit final. Can anyone offer guidance on this.
PS. Trying the 32 bit RC on the laptop I was able to listen OK.
SMplayer has a vdpau option, turn it on, and it stops playing video. XV works just fine, but vdpau uses a lot less processor.

I've tried the same in a clean install of 10.04, but no connection is made and a prompt comes up every few minutes asking for the password. I've used the included rt2870 driver in 9.10 without problems. My wireless-N network uses WPA2 personal encryption, which has never given me issues. When I put a blank rewritable media in the drive no icon appears on the desktop and if I try to burn an iso image, for example, with the option that the right finds no brasero asks to insert media and some in the unit. Another problem is that brasero leaves the locked drawer of the unit for a few minutes after erase dvd-rw media. Is there any solution to these two problems?

I have to create a Repository for LinuxMint (which is Ubuntu based) on a CD/DVD.
What is the way out ?
I just installed 10.04 and am pleased w/ things, for the most part.
However, I cannot get a DVD disc to play (a movie, for instance) or be recognized unless I shut down the system and restart (provided I have already launched a Web video, or something). The DVD-ROM is dead to the world as far as disc recognition goes.
Things were just great in Karmic so this is completely confusing to me.
Does anyone have a fix?
I've just upgraded to Lucid Lynx on my Asus Eee Netbook, with Notebook Remix installed. I wqs glad to see that Canonical integrated the gwibber client into the desktop environment, as this gives me better opportunities to use my Twitter account properly. View 9 Replies View RelatedI installed Kubuntu 10.04 and wanted to try if, finally, ibus works. I installed ibus and ibus-anthy from repository (I need the japanese input), then I launched Ibus preferences from the menu, set it, and the icon appears in the kickbar.But nothing happens if I press ctrl-space. Same problem there was on 9.10.I also added the lines to the home/.bashrc as the popup says.

In the 2 previous releases of ubuntu I have had to add irqpoll to the boot line in order for my USB ports to work. I dont understand why this works but it does.
With the new "noninteractive" boot I can't work out how to add irqpoll to the boot sequence.
I mistakenly moved a folder to the trash where it is stuck. I have tried moving it back to its original location using 2 methods, drag and drop, menu -edit- move. View 9 Replies View RelatedUsing Lucid and most things seem to be going OK but I can't get the computer to take the line-in signal.
It's an AsRock M3A785GMH/128M mainboard (ALC888 Audio) and I'm on Lucid 64-bit.
I've checked the jack's in the right socket, that the input is elected in both the normal ALSA volume control and pulse, and that the volume controls are turned up.
I know also that there is a signal going into the line-in lead!
Last month I installed a newer MoBo + CPU and PSU, (See system specs in my signature) and moved from Maverick to Lucid 10.04.
I was running Natty 11.04 64bit up until a couple of days ago, but that was locking up like mad. I did a fresh install of 10.04 over the whole HDD yesterday...though cannot recall it asking me if I wanted 32 or 64bit...will neeed to check)
I'm using an ATI Radeon (Sapphire?) x1650 PRO graphics card - but borrowed from a friend as my previous card wouldn't fit in the upgrade motherboard. Ubuntu is running quite fast with it but often stutters when on Firefox or Chrome. With Natty the system would lock up at least once an hour, with Lucid - at the moment it's only locked up once in 6 hours... I'm assuming this is just problems with Ubuntu and not the card. I get no odd lines or color on the screen.
I'll need to give this card back at some point... I'm wondering if people could suggest other cards (Nvidia/ATI or other) that are known to work happily with Ubuntu 10.04. I've got a budget of around �40, but then I'm not gaming so guess shouldn't need anything too high spec. (My PSU has a PCI-E connector if needed...though doubt it will be!)
There must be something turned on in the security settings keeping Desktop Launchers from working.I have verified that the launchers have execute bit turned on in the permissions, yet when try to start one, I get an alert window saying this is an Untrusted application launcher.How do I disable this feature, or in the alternative, make them trusted?
View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter the upgrade, I've noticed a problem I haven't had before - hibernating worked fine to the last. The problem is, although the system correctly hibernates, it makes no attempt to "wake" from hibernation when I power it up - it boots normally, and with fsck-ing like it was powered off without proper shutdown (understandably). I don't know why it happens, and I've skimmed the logs, but noticed nothing special. What could be the problem? What could I try? Which log should help someone find that out?

I've installed Lucid via PXE (see above RE: non-functioning optical disc drive). It was a hassle to do so, but since I've not been able to get this laptop to boot from a usb drive, it seemed the way to go. However, the PXE setup process is not exactly straightforward; therefore I THINK I installed it correctly because most everything else works fine, but I really have no way of knowing.
More preliminaries: As the built-in wireless card in the Laptop has been dead for longer than I care to remember, I'm attempting to use a PCMCIA D-Link DWL-650+ (not a 650 or a 650G or a 650G+) which says that it's supposed to work "out of the box" with the ACX100 driver.

I upgraded my Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy) system to 10.04 (Lucid) and my remote X applications no longer work. The problem seems to pertain to Xauthority. When the remote X client attempts to access the X server on Lucid it receives an error indicating that there is no matching MIT Magic Cookie (hereafter cookie) for the display. It turns out that this is true. I'm of the belief that the subject cookie should be generated for my display when the X session is started on Lucid.I thought this was being done by GDM when I logged on. However, $HOME/.Xauthority contains only 1 cookie which is for the display identified as "Pluto/Unix:0" (Pluto is the name of the host). I'm expecting a cookie for a display identified as "Pluto.my.test:0" where "my.test" is the domain name for my network.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have bought a laptop 2 months ago with pre installed windows7 and installed Ubuntu 10.04 64bit but still didnt get sound from the speakers. With headphones everything is OK . I have unmuted everything and searched forums but nothing so far. In windows I get speaker sound so it is not hardware problem. In alsamixer it appears I have 2 soundcards, one HDA -intel (chip Realtek ALC272) and a second one HDA nvidia ( a virtual one propably from my nvidia VGA ) that lacks controls . With lspci -v , it appears both use the same driver :Kernel driver in use: HDA IKernel modules: snd-hda-intel . Tried to disable the first one from bios but it didnt help I also tried sound adjustment in preferences -> sound and gnome-alsamixer, nothing From gnome alsamixer, when I mute speakers, the headphones also get mute so may be the system doesnt recognize speakers and headphones separately ? May be it has to do with config files but my linux knowledge is low

I also get similar message message when i try to boot from DSL BUt a few weeks ago when i tried lupu without formatting my flash drive(it had some stuff in it) lupu ran it said 5 seconds to boot an image come but nothing more it hanged up showing a black screen and a blinking under score symbol
I switched from Sidux to Ubunbtu Lucid yesterday. On Sidux I had to struggle a little but to get this scanner working but at the end everything was fine. However on Lucid no success, I googled around and followed different instructions found in the www. sane-find-scanner and scanimage -L can find it (but it takes some time for scanimage -L) however I cannot scan and the scanner also does not react at all. The reaction of iscan and all the other scanning software is not consistent, error messages vary. A am thinking about switching back to some older Ubuntu version in case that I cannot get it running, I need the scanner in order to send fax
