I installed Nvidia 195 version from their site and installed as per their instruction. Now, on reboot the resolution gets "800*600" while it should be "1366*768". What should I do?

However the permissions get reset everytime I reboot. Is there any way to pass an argument to the ivtv driver to change the default permissions?
My screen resolution keeps reverting back to the default resolution 800x600. I'm using ubuntu 10.04, but had the same problem on 9.10 on my Acer Revo r3600 ION. I am able to change the resolution to 1280x1024 but have to do it by the nVidia configuration tool. The tool then allows me to 'Save to X Configuration'which it appears to have done successfully.See the sections from my 'etcx11xorg.conf' file. This is the state of the file after a reboot by the way.how I can get my desired resolution to persist after I reboot?

I'm using Nvidia's driver from their website and Kubuntu 8.04. I tried Debian 5.04 kde on the same computer and the resolution stays. Of course I prefer kubuntu. After shutdown the video resolution goes back to 1024x768 but I want 1280x800 instead. I have a Dell IN191ON lcd widescreen monitor and geforce fx 5200 video card. I'm using the latest video driver from Nvidia for this card version NVIDIA-Linux-x86-173.14.25-pkg1.run.

I currently have the proprietary drivers for nvidia installed for my gtx 460, nvidia drivers are ver 270.41.06. Ever since I reformatted my computer and got the new nvidia drivers, every time I reboot my resolution goes to something horrible(1024x76 on a monitor capable of 1920x1080. While I can simply change it every boot, it gets quite tedious so I have a script to run on boot:

To set my monitor to its proper resolution, the issue is I still have to reset gnome panels etc every time after the resolution has changed the config.

I have also tried changing the default resolution in the server settings manager and saving the xorg.conf file, but nothing seems to work. Is there any way to change this/has anybody else had the issue? I'm considering going back to an older version of the drivers if that would solve it,
This is a new 9.10 installation. Screen resolution by default is 800x600. I've installed the 1.85 nvidia driver, which correctly identifies my monitor as a Samsung 931b (or whatever). Nvidia's gui suggests a 1280x1024, which is just what I want. When I try to save the changes to xorg.conf, I get a variety of errors, including (but not limited to) "...error parsing xorg.conf..". I've chmod 'ed the X11 directory, and the xorg.conf* files in it to 777, I end up with 1280x1024 until a reboot, after which I get 800x600 again (arrgg!).
Judging from the number of people posting here and in other places, this is common. Seems there would be a solution that works. Any suggestions?

I have Ubuntu 10.04 32bit installed on my desktop. My video card is an nVidia 7800 GT. My Monitor is a Sceptre X24WG. I am able to use the NVIDIA X Server Settings utility to change my resolution to 1920x1080 as well as 1920x1200,and 3d opengl accelerated games work. When i reboot, the x server comes up with 1280x1024 as the resolution. I want it to remember the resolution i selected instead of defaulting to a different resolution.
I was running Kubuntu 8.10 previously and had some difficulty setting up the graphics initially, but i don't recall what steps i had taken to get it to work. When i recently reformatted to install Ubuntu 10.04, it wouldn't go directly to 10.04. The screen would go to a garbled display and would load the install window, so i installed 9.04 and then upgraded to 9.10 and then 10.04, without trouble.
I'm using the nVidia hardware driver version 195.36.15, which in the hardware drivers utility is listed as the current and recommended version. It originally wouldn't install until after i had rebooted into the 2.6.31-21 kernel. I have tried the option to save to x configuration file. When i save to x configuration file, the xorg.conf in /etc/X11/ looks like this:

I've been having some issues with my sound for a few weeks. Every time I reboot, my sound is muted. I have to open up alsamixer every time and unmute it manually. It is not the "master volume" that is muted but instead the "speaker" volume is the one that is muted. This started when i started up my computer and the ubuntu log-in sound started playing extremely loud. I quickly tried to turn down the volume while it was still booting and ever since then, i have been having this issue. Also, the volume control on my laptop no longer works, even after i adjust the volume with alsamixer. It still shows on the screen that the volume is being adjusted, but it does nothing. I hoped i explained this well enough for someone to be able to help me with this issue. Also, sorry if this issue has been posted before.

I can't start x server, and when go into windows xp, the screen is on very low resolution state. After go into win xp and reboot, I can boot either ubuntu or winxp normally, everything is okey again. In summary:- When go into XP and reboot, I can boot ubuntu and XP normally.- When go into ubuntu and reboot, I can only boot with very low resolution in XP and can not start x server if boot ubuntu

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using a fresh Ubuntu 9.10 installation with english-only language but with a German keyboard.
So, once booted into my (only) account, I use the Keyboard Preferences app to change my Layout from US to German. Which works. I also remove the US keyboard so that the only layout left is German.
But upon a reboot, not only the US kbd is back in the layouts list, but the kbd also has defaulted back to US, so that I have to open the Kbd Prefs to again remove the US layout to get my German layout active again.
I also tried "Apply System-wide" and even logged in as root to make the same changes, but the system always goes back to US layout after a reboot.
This is also a problem when logging in after a reboot - I want the system to use German layout there, too.
So, how do I change the layout globally so that even at the login page I have my German layout already active?
A few hours ago I upgraded my system, from Karmic to Lucid and I'm glad with it.But I have a problem, (two actually, I posted the second in other thread), Gnome is not remembering my Visual Effects configuration. I mean, I select the "extra" option and when reboot, it's back to "none".It will be a pain having to edit this every time my laptop starts.

View 4 Replies View Relatedafter the 5.6 update I started loosing the connection to my router. Having had issues with routers before I assumed that the router was on its way out. However I happended to have a laptop handy the other day and thought I would give it a try (after eth0 went down), router was fine(same cable too). I have tried bringing eth0 up/down (gui and ifdown/ifup) and restarted the network(gui and cli) but it will not get an ip(as I recall it does recognize that the cable is connected). If I do a reboot, eth0 comes up immediately. The log just shows repeated dhcp requests. I tried a dhclient -r but it errors out with no link found. It has been doing this since 5.6 came out (roughly once a day) so I THINK that it is not a hardware issue(should have died completely by now if it was). PSU voltages show stable and unchanged. It does use the forcedeath driver. 5.6-64bit fully updated.

The original theme Human changes to i think dust. when i open the appearance applet to change back the theme, the original human theme is already selected. After searching through forums, I could finally fix it.I'm not sure what exactly fixed it. I first changed the window manager to metacity. Run the following command:Code:sudo nvidia-xconfig --composite --render-accel --add-argb-glx-visualsAnd then changed window manager to compiz and desktop effects could be enabled.The problem is, everytime I reboot, its again running in low graphics mode, desktop effects cannot be enabled, and I have to do all the troubleshooting again! Any idea how to permanently fix this?EDIT: I found that the graphics is reset even without typing the command everytime. But I still have to switch back and forth from compiz window manager to set it all right!

For example, system clock on my machine is now Wednesday May 26,2011 22:44. If I were to reboot now, the time I would get is Thursday May 27, 2011 04:14. How do I correct this?

I used to have an old fashioned 1280x1024 flatscreen.Now the problem is, every single time when I log on Ubuntu resets my screen res. to 1280x1024. So every time I have to use the Nvidia Settings to set my screen res to 1920x1080 and every time I have to place my panel widgets back in the right place and order, because of that, which is quite annoying.GDM has no problems though, it always displays in the right resolution.I use a Nvidia GeForce 6200 graphics card and the nvidia-current driver on Ubuntu 10.04 i386. View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed Open Suse 11.3 LXDE from the live CD I downloaded. My monitor settings reset to the highest resolution on every shutdown/reboot. Other settings like my wallpaper and removing the lock screen on screensaver also reset.
Is this there anything I can do to get settings/changes I make to stay?
on an older computer. I get as far as the screen that asks if I want to try or install and then I get a message saying the screen resolution is wrong and I need to reset. I even disabled the hard drive in bios and still get this message. computer was built to run xp and had ubuntu on it before. I tried to upgrade the nvidia driver and broke it.

I change it in "configure desktop" and it's ok for the session but it changes back on reboot. Also, the font sizes are too small for xterms. Sure, I can ctrl+ to increase but why should I have to do this each time I login? I noticed others seem to be having this problem. Is there an upgrade that will fix this? I'm using 11.2 and kde.
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo I know now that I reach the login screen, and I know to hit control, alt, f1. However, all attempts to reset the resolution have failed. Here's how it went down. I was working with nvidia driver. Already was frustrated I couldn't get a working wide screen setting for my toshiba hd tv/monitor but that's a seperate issue. I was trying to get the driver to recognize my separate monitor to an hd tv in the living room using the video out. works fine with windows. I got it to recognize, it made me save settings, and then restart. Note resolution settings are set to automatic right now. Then when I restart, I get to ubuntu splash screen, it plays the chime, and shows a blank black screen. Control alt f1 brings me the menu.
I have been told to type (this is just quick type, I used the proper commands in reality)
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg.
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phighxserver - xorg
xrandr --output lvds --mode 1024x768
I found one article that gave a three step process.
sudo cp /etc/x11/xorg.conf / etc/x11/xorg.conf.custom
sudo sh -c 'md5sum ' etc'/x11/xorg.conf > /var/lib/x11/xorg.conf.md5sum'
sudo dpk-reconfigure xserver-xorg.
Nothing gave me any of the results I expected from command doesn't exist to completely irrelevant menus. Start me from the beginning to what I should do. Yes I logged in properly with my username and password to. Do the 'etc' in the command need to be filled with something else like a drive letter or something. I'm so lost, should I disconnect my tv? Also I tried running in safe mode and it said something about display not found.
I'm using Ubuntu 9.10, and a usb webcam that is shown as 'Bus 001 Device 005: ID 0ac8:3450 Z-Star Microelectronics Corp.' by lsusb.
The problem is that on connecting the cam, it just works with the first program I start (skype, tokbox, messenger), and if I disconnect it or switch to another program, it stops to work and I have to restart my computer to make it work again.
Is there some good solution to reset the camera without rebooting to make it work again?
I'm a relatively new Debian user, having come from Ubuntu. I recently bought a Dell micro-server to function as my Kodi media player. I installed an nVidia GeForce 210 to output to my Pioneer home theatre amplifier. The amp takes all my inputs (eg. Satellite set-top decoder, PS3, Kodi etc) and outputs to the TV. I installed XFCE as my desktop environment so that I could still interact with it via VNC.
Everything is working great except for one exceptionally annoying problem! Every day, I find that I am having to VNC into the desktop, load up nVidia X Settings, and change my screen resolution from Auto to 1920x1080 because it has lost the display configuration and the screen is blank. I presume this happens when the amplifier switches from one input to the next. It doesn't matter if I save the configuration to my X11.conf file or not - it still resets itself.
Before, this setup would run for months without any intervention (Same amplifier + HP microserver + Ubuntu + LXDE + ATI video card), so I'm pretty confident that the issue is either Debian, XFCE, or the nVidia card.
