Fedora :: Date And Time Reset On Reboot After F15 Upgrade

May 26, 2011

I upgraded from fedora 14 to fedora 15 yesterday. I live in India (IST) which is GMT +05:30. Every time I boot, my system clock increases its time by 5 and a half hours. For example, system clock on my machine is now Wednesday May 26,2011 22:44. If I were to reboot now, the time I would get is Thursday May 27, 2011 04:14. How do I correct this?

General :: USB Webcam Just Works Once And Next Time Have To Reboot - Reset The Camera Without Rebooting ?

Mar 5, 2010

I'm using Ubuntu 9.10, and a usb webcam that is shown as 'Bus 001 Device 005: ID 0ac8:3450 Z-Star Microelectronics Corp.' by lsusb.

The problem is that on connecting the cam, it just works with the first program I start (skype, tokbox, messenger), and if I disconnect it or switch to another program, it stops to work and I have to restart my computer to make it work again.

Is there some good solution to reset the camera without rebooting to make it work again?

Fedora :: Cannot Set Time Of Clock

Jul 29, 2009

When installing I perhaps mistakingly told Fedora it should use the BIOS clock and now it shows the wrong time, 1 hour ahead of my time-zone GMT+0. If I try and go to the preferences and set the time the 'Advanced Options' one of which I need are grayed out, I need the 'Use local time source' option to be unchecked. Could somebody tell me a workaround or the command-line commands to tell it not to do this anymore?

I have dual boot on my comp. Windows XP and Fedora 11 Now in both systems time zone is set to Belgrade ( which is my time zone), but when I setup clock in fedora to be, let's say 16.15h, then when I swich to windows it says time is 14.15h. When I setup in windows on 16.15h, and I swich to fedora, it says time is 18.15h. So I can't get accurate time on both systems in no way.

Fedora :: Show Clock To Civilian Time?

Nov 12, 2009

By default, Fedora 11 sets my clock to military time. For example it says 16:22. I would like it to show civilian time (or at least know how to do it) I logged into the clock settings and had to put in the root password, but couldn't find where you do this. If you scroll on the time for hours, it just goes from 0 to 23 and back, not to AM and PM like some others.

Fedora :: Clock - Boot Into To 12 Time Is Wrong But Not In Windows

Oct 29, 2009

I'm running windows 7 and the F12 Beta (although the same issue existed in my f11 distro) on an asus g71 bb. When ever I boot into windows my time is correct. If I boot into to F12 my time is wrong. Usually by 4 hours. If I change it in Linux when I boot into windows I end up switching the time on my windows partition. I tried searching the forum (rather casual I'll admit) and couldn't find any solutions.

General :: Dual Booting - Need To Reset PC Clock

Jan 27, 2010

Dual booting suselinux with Windows 7, when I boot into either OS I need to reset the PC clock. The clock is off by 6 hours, which coincidentally is the difference between my time zone and GMT, -6 hours. Its not six hours behind but rather six hours ahead of my local time. My interpretation the setting for my local time zone is not being saved? Or are they being overridden by the OS'es? Both OS have the same time zone setting, Central Standard Time USA?

Fedora :: Time Jumps Backwards On Reboot / Stop It?

May 30, 2011

Just installed F15 using preupgrade (from F14) and now, every time I reboot, time jumps backwards 4 hours. If I reboot twice in a row without correcting the time, time will be off by 8 hours. Time zone is set correctly (Eastern Time). "Synchronize date and time over the network" is unchecked.

Since the difference between GMT and Eastern time is 4 hours, there appears to be some confusion over that but I can't find anything in the "Date & Time" app relative to that to try to play with to see if I can correct this. II do remember a similar issue many releases ago but I can't remember how it was dealt with.

Any ideas on how to diagnose and fix this?

CentOS 5 :: Reset Eth0 Without Reboot

Jul 18, 2011

after the 5.6 update I started loosing the connection to my router. Having had issues with routers before I assumed that the router was on its way out. However I happended to have a laptop handy the other day and thought I would give it a try (after eth0 went down), router was fine(same cable too). I have tried bringing eth0 up/down (gui and ifdown/ifup) and restarted the network(gui and cli) but it will not get an ip(as I recall it does recognize that the cable is connected). If I do a reboot, eth0 comes up immediately. The log just shows repeated dhcp requests. I tried a dhclient -r but it errors out with no link found. It has been doing this since 5.6 came out (roughly once a day) so I THINK that it is not a hardware issue(should have died completely by now if it was). PSU voltages show stable and unchanged. It does use the forcedeath driver. 5.6-64bit fully updated.

Ubuntu :: Non-US Keyboard Layout Gets Reset To US After Reboot

Jan 9, 2010

I am using a fresh Ubuntu 9.10 installation with english-only language but with a German keyboard.

So, once booted into my (only) account, I use the Keyboard Preferences app to change my Layout from US to German. Which works. I also remove the US keyboard so that the only layout left is German.

But upon a reboot, not only the US kbd is back in the layouts list, but the kbd also has defaulted back to US, so that I have to open the Kbd Prefs to again remove the US layout to get my German layout active again.

I also tried "Apply System-wide" and even logged in as root to make the same changes, but the system always goes back to US layout after a reboot.

This is also a problem when logging in after a reboot - I want the system to use German layout there, too.

So, how do I change the layout globally so that even at the login page I have my German layout already active?

Debian Configuration :: Clock Readjusted After System Crashed - Cannot Reboot

Dec 20, 2010

I have recently come across a Debian installation page for powerpc: viewtopic.php?t=20481. It got me motivated to fix the Debian I have on my iBook G4. I have a Debian Lenny installed on my iBook G4 -- but I have been having some sort of problem (mostly likely due to hardware) which causes the system to crash. After the latest crash, the clock on iBook has been readjusted. For this reason, I cannot reboot Debian completely.

Every time I turn on the computer it begins the booting process but before I get to my desktop I encounter numerous error messages concerning my clock. After either OK'ing or canceling these error messages, I get to my desktop but the system by then is either frozen or else not working at all. Worse, I can't even turn off the computer since the upper right corner of the desktop is completely blank and I have no menu to turn off or reboot the system.

It took this computer to a local Apple store and they ran many different hardware diagnostic tests on it. They concluded there's "technically" nothing wrong with the computer. But they said although the system has successfully passed all hardware tests, there may still remain some complicated but slight hardware glitch/es which the hardware diagnostics could not pick up.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: IVTV And (pvr-350) - Permissions Get Reset Everytime When Reboot

Oct 22, 2010

I have hauppauge pvr-350 which has an mpeg2 decoder with an RGB and s-video out to let me send video to my tv. I'm using the ivtv drivers which work well. To test the card I ran

Code:
cat test.mpeg > /dev/video16
-bash: /dev/video16: Permission denied
So then I did
Code:
ls -l /dev/video16
crw-rw---- 1 root video 81, 5 2010-10-22 12:21 /dev/video16
sudo chmod a+rw /dev/video16
[sudo] password for patrick:
cat test.mpeg > /dev/video16

However the permissions get reset everytime I reboot. Is there any way to pass an argument to the ivtv driver to change the default permissions?
