Ubuntu :: Package Wallpapers-Extra Has To Be Overridden
Nov 20, 2010
I have found that the package "ubuntu-wallpapers-extra" appears to be the culprit in imposing a system-wide new default of a particular wallpaper background image on all users (both those already added and those yet to be added) as well as the login screen. It can be overridden. The problem is, it has to be overridden.
Anyone know of a way I can block any such changes from happening? If not that, what about a tool that will automatically revert such changes. The goal is so that users (and the login context) won't need an explicit background image to be set and when so, will get the image that was the default at install time.
I have a problem, I'm making my own Distro (I hope it'll be cool :P) and I have some problems,
1. What should I still install? What packages should be in? (for normal use) 2. What should I do to make system automatically find sound when start? 3. Which application/command starts a window, where is logout button, turn off etc. in Gnome? 4. Which package do the extra applets in Gnome?
When I'm running, I like to just do a base install to start, so that, I can go from there, only added things that I need. I just did a Base install of Fedora 14 x86_64, selecting only the "Base" package, and "vim-enhanced". But, when running a grouplist, it comes back with this...
Code:
[root@fcdesktop01 ~]# yum grouplist Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit Adding en_US to language list Setting up Group Process
[code]...
I don't see why these extra groups are included, when all I asked for was Base and vim?
I tried to install a package of extra Compiz Fusion plugins but it won't run. Says there is some kind of conflict or error. Anybody know where I can find this. The particular plugin I want is Show Mouse.
I've recently installed 11.3 on my work laptop. I wanted to check out some wallpapers so went to "desktop activities" --> "get more wallpapers..." and installed a few. However, I can't see to find my newly installed wallpapers. It says they're installed, but they don't show up under wallpapers. Has anyone seen this before?
there are 2 related to 11.3: openSUSE_11.3/ and openSUSE_11.3_KDE_Distro_Factory/ Index of /repositories/KDE:/Extra they are not listed as official kde4 repos here KDE repositories - openSUSE, but they are in the same directory structure on the build service so it would assume they are official (what ever official means) They have rpm's I didn't see in community and playground (at least for 11.3) such as audex and clementine I would guess that they are for the stable and factory versions of KDE4 but then shouldn't there be a 3rd for unstable if this was the case? Or do they refer to the distro, 11.3 stable and 11.3 factory
'm pretty new to Linux in general, but I have Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal. I saw online about a Galaxy Live Wallpaper (http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2010/10/a...er-for-ubuntu/), but when I try to get it with the Terminal, it says 404 for a bunch of the stuff, so it won't install. From what I gather, it was only supported in 10.10, and not 11.04.My question is, are there any other live wallpapers that are compatible with Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal? I'm really digging this OS, I'd love to make it even better. The Galaxy one was just incredible, I reeeeally wish it worked.
I use Ubuntu 10.04. I switched from KDE4, where it was possible to use Compiz's Wallpaper plugin to have multiple wallpapers, so that each desktop has a different wallpaper. I tried to use this plugin now, and it doesn't work.
I read some interesting facts here:

Obviously this info is a little obsolete since it is about Hardy, but it looks like recompiling Nautilus is still required. Can somebody tell me how to do this? Which packages do I need? Where to pull the right code from? Are there any precompiled Nautilus packages for Ubuntu 10.04 supporting Wallpaper plugin? (that would be amazing)
I would like to toggle between 2 or more wallpapers on my 4 desktops (Compiz) with a simple hot key. Is there a command I can add to the Compiz command settings that toggles between 2 wallpapers?
So I've seen the tutorials where you simply tell nautilus to not draw the wallpaper and then use ccsm's wallpaper-plugin to set different wallpapers. It's just that I don't seem to have said plugin Where could it be?
I was looking at the live CD for the latest release, and I started thinking about how good the wallpapers were for Hardy and Intrepid. I wish I had kept them.I kept the .iso files for them, surely I should be able to mount the .iso and retrieve the wallpapers. where I would be able to find the wallpapers on the mounted .iso (note the .iso is not necessarily burned to a cd).
I have recently installed Lucid Lynx and am enjoying it immensely.I was just wondering if anyone can help me with setting up Conky to work with the Compiz wallpaper plugin.I've disabled Nautilus from drawing my desktop to enable multiple wallpapers in Compiz, but now I can't get Conky to show up on the desktop. Can anyone who's done this in Lynx post their .conkyrc files please?I've tried googling around for a solution, but most of the threads I came across were from 2007-2009, and some of the configuration options for Compiz have been updated since then. It'd be cool if I can still use conky in my multi-paper environment.
Does anyone know how to get multiple wallpapers to work with a netbook logon? i.e a different wallpaper for each desktop.I am able to achieve this with a gnome login but when I login with a netbook window manager all desktops have the same wallpaper that is set in System->Appearance->Backup
I have a dual setup and just switched from Xubuntus Xfce? to Fluxbox... But now I can't set wallpapers on both my screens anymore. How do I do that? I had to change the Fluxbox menu from Head 1 to Head 2 to get it on my bigger, primary screen. Which is the one getting a wallpaper when I'm setting one.
if there's anyway to have different wallpapers on each workspace in 32bit Ubuntu 10.10 desktop edition maverick meerkat? ive tried many different things posted on the forum to no avail... i think they were for earlier versions.
I'm using a multiple monitor setup, and I'd like to use a different wallpaper on each monitor. The default background selector, however, puts the same picture on every monitor. I've tried the application 'nitrogen' from the repositories which claims to be able to do just that, but it doesn't do anything.
I am sure there is some website/archive/repository of the official and default wallpapers of the common distros and all their past releases....especially Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora etc
I have a 64bit desktop and 64bit laptop. I upgraded both to 10.10 and they both have the same problem with compiz. Even though I selected the cylinder distortion, the rotating desktops will not deform to a cylinder unless I select "Wallpaper" in compiz but when I do that, the cylinder is completely transparent AND objects (like windows or bouncing/squishing icons in AWN appear not to refresh. Like a window will not disappear after closing.
As an aside, I have four different wallpapers selected for the four different desktops, but none of them display when I select "Wallpaper" in compiz, I just get the transparent cylinder.
If I deselect "Wallpaper" in compiz, the problem with the refresh disappears immediately, as does the transparent wallpapers but the cylinder becomes disabled and I am left with a cube with a single wallpaper and no ability to decrease opacity during rotation.
This has happened with both my desktop and laptop. I have tried uninstalling all compiz components in Synaptic Package Manager and adding them back one at a time in case I added some conflicting components but this doesn't seem to help.
I did not change settings in the updates, so I have to assume that the problem has something to do with a bug in Compiz. The two computers have different video cards and the drivers are up to date, so I'm at a loss.
Has anyone else found this problem? Has anyone been able to display the cylinder distortion with four desktops with different wallpapers?
After upgrading to Natty, I noticed that the Wallpaper plugin from Compiz was gone (I've been using KDE for about 1 1/2 years, so I may just be out of the GNOME loop). Is there any way to get multiple wallpapers in Compiz anymore? I'm running Compiz 0.9.4
I've set all the wallpapers I want to cycle, I've set the time to 15 sec checked the "Cycle" box but nothing happens. The background stays the same. Log in-out didn't work. I'm on Ubuntu Classic
I installed a few gnome-shell-themes and applied them with the tweak tool, but if I want to change my wallpaper image after 3-4 seconds it returns to the old one?
Running Open Suse 11.1 with KDE 3.+ using screen resolution (trying to) 1280x1024. I can't get my wallpapers to fill the desktop, they are tiled sometimes and I can't change them. One other thing is I am having trouble with the screensavers, they won't start, and I like to delete some of them?
Using Fedora 14, compiz. How do I set each of the Desktop screens, available from the viewport switcher.... with a different wallpaper? Searching keeps turning up multiple monitors and such -- but not multiple viewports/desktops. I know i did it before.
