Running Open Suse 11.1 with KDE 3.+ using screen resolution (trying to) 1280x1024. I can't get my wallpapers to fill the desktop, they are tiled sometimes and I can't change them. One other thing is I am having trouble with the screensavers, they won't start, and I like to delete some of them?

I have read and read and googled for my specific problem and nothing exactly matches. I have a Nvidia 8400GS, running SuSe 11.1, kernel 2.6.27.45-0.1.1,, Nvidia Drivers 193.5, KDE 3.??. It seems like about every third or fourth time I boot up I have to rebuild and install the Nvidia drivers (the hard way). When I get up and running again, use the Nvidia Control panel and save the settings to Nvidiaxxxxxxx.RC file. Why does this keep happening, any suggestions or threads that might answer this problem?? Also I can't get my wallpapers to fill the desktop, they are tiled sometimes and I can't change them. However, I can't see to find my newly installed wallpapers. It says they're installed, but they don't show up under wallpapers. Has anyone seen this before?

I did a kernel upgrade in openSUSE 11.2 which caused bootchart to fill the root partition or so it would appear as when I rebooted I started getting messages on the console saying bootchartd could not write because the device was full.
Let me begin by describing my system:

As you can see from the partition table I have 2GB allocated for the / partition and according to the df command there is 0 free space but du -hx shows / is only using 405MB. What's happened to the almost 1.6GB that should be available?
I have a laptop with the CD-ROM apparently broken, so I installed OpenSuSE 11.4 milestone4 from USB stick .unfortunately in the end of the installation I had a GRUB configuration error (twice) . then, in the third time I removed GRUB from the installation procedureSince my other GNU / Linux is Ubuntu, I did update-grub on ubuntu, it detects the presence of OpenSuSE but it does not add it to its grub.cfgwhen I wanted to add it manually to ubuntu's GRUB, I realized that, in OpenSuSE, the /boot path was empty.My Question is: Do you know how to put the files needed to boot OpenSuSE (initrd, vmlinuz , ...) in the directory /boot without installing OpenSuSE's GRUB ?? (ie keep the ubuntu's GRUB)

the error is: ERROR! A valid domain name consists of components seperated by dots. Each component contains letters, digits, numbers, and hyphens. A hyphen may not start or end a component and the last component may not begin with a digit. A valid IP address consists of four integers in the range of 0-255 seperated by dots.
however, i have not got a domain name or an ip filled in. the download website (Nvidia Installer HOWTO for SUSE LINUX users) did not provide either. i dont know why it wont work without them.
is there any way i can make my sound card go 5.1 and enable a "fill speakers" option? I have an onboard via hd 1705 sound codec as it's listed in my mainboard manual. The sound card it's self appears in the system as aa nvidia hda, and so it's listed in the manual. So my question is, shouldn't it be a via since it has a via hd chip? Anyway, apparently my kmix volume control has very vew options for it. I also have a via tremor pci sound card, but it's not hd. That one has all the options available in the kmix, but the via hd doesn't. I'd prefer using the via hd since it's "high definition". Is there any way i can enable the 5.1 on it?

'm pretty new to Linux in general, but I have Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal. I saw online about a Galaxy Live Wallpaper (http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2010/10/a...er-for-ubuntu/), but when I try to get it with the Terminal, it says 404 for a bunch of the stuff, so it won't install. From what I gather, it was only supported in 10.10, and not 11.04.My question is, are there any other live wallpapers that are compatible with Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal? I'm really digging this OS, I'd love to make it even better. The Galaxy one was just incredible, I reeeeally wish it worked.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have found that the package "ubuntu-wallpapers-extra" appears to be the culprit in imposing a system-wide new default of a particular wallpaper background image on all users (both those already added and those yet to be added) as well as the login screen. It can be overridden. The problem is, it has to be overridden.
Anyone know of a way I can block any such changes from happening? If not that, what about a tool that will automatically revert such changes. The goal is so that users (and the login context) won't need an explicit background image to be set and when so, will get the image that was the default at install time.
I have a dual setup and just switched from Xubuntus Xfce? to Fluxbox... But now I can't set wallpapers on both my screens anymore. How do I do that? I had to change the Fluxbox menu from Head 1 to Head 2 to get it on my bigger, primary screen. Which is the one getting a wallpaper when I'm setting one.
