Ubuntu :: Default Wallpapers On Live Cd?

Oct 14, 2010

I was looking at the live CD for the latest release, and I started thinking about how good the wallpapers were for Hardy and Intrepid. I wish I had kept them.I kept the .iso files for them, surely I should be able to mount the .iso and retrieve the wallpapers. where I would be able to find the wallpapers on the mounted .iso (note the .iso is not necessarily burned to a cd).

Fedora Installation :: Kernel Panic At LiveCD Boot Or Preinstalled HDD

Dec 8, 2010

I am trying to install Fedora on my computer but I am getting a kernel panic at liveCD boot after boot menu. It occurs to me for F13 and F14 (all x64, F14 x86 seems to boot fine but I'm trying to host a x64 guest OS on it so I need to get the x64 version to work)

My system specs:
Dual Opteron 265
4GB RAM
Asus K8N-DL (nVidia nForce Pro 2000, BIOS 1010)

I also tried to install F14 in some other computer (which worked flawlessly) and put the HDD into the computer in question, which gave me the same kernel panic.

Red Hat / Fedora :: Can't Find Default Program Folder Using Yum

Oct 26, 2010

I installed Freeradius using Yum and then RPM, where the heck does the default program folder get installed and how do you even find it. I did a find . -name free and I come up with nothing. In Windows, I can go to a program respoistory, download a program to the default directory or choose one, launch the installation, and more often than not the program and most of it's components are installed in the 'Programs' directory. It is a pretty consistent, neat, and organized process. Can someone relate how Linux works in comparison? I am not knocking Linux, just trying to understand if there is a consistent method to how it downloads, installs, and stores applications.

General :: Adding Programs That Were Not Preinstalled

May 28, 2010

I have always had to use windows etc, of course this means I have become accustomed to the way the programs are automatically installed etc... so my question is:

Once I have found appropriate software which I would like to add to my computer, (which is Linux Compatible)... what are the steps, in the simplest terms to start using it?

To confirm, I have got to the stage where the program is on the computer but as no "window" pops up... I am fairly lost to get it from the completed downloads to actually start using it... is it an option like extract? Could you give me the basic steps.

Ubuntu :: Are There Any Other Live Wallpapers?

May 28, 2011

'm pretty new to Linux in general, but I have Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal. I saw online about a Galaxy Live Wallpaper (http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2010/10/a...er-for-ubuntu/), but when I try to get it with the Terminal, it says 404 for a bunch of the stuff, so it won't install. From what I gather, it was only supported in 10.10, and not 11.04.My question is, are there any other live wallpapers that are compatible with Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal? I'm really digging this OS, I'd love to make it even better. The Galaxy one was just incredible, I reeeeally wish it worked.

Obviously this info is a little obsolete since it is about Hardy, but it looks like recompiling Nautilus is still required. Can somebody tell me how to do this? Which packages do I need? Where to pull the right code from? Are there any precompiled Nautilus packages for Ubuntu 10.04 supporting Wallpaper plugin? (that would be amazing)
