under 'System Settings < Keyboard & Mouse' I've already set the option 'Double click to open files and folders' but it doesn't seem to work with Dolphin.
View 4 RepliesI have a custom LXDE installation with mostly the core applications. (Read my signature for a better picture.) Because it is custom I do not have the option to double click and run a Linux (not Windows) executable file. When I try to open the application it says choose an application to open it with. Do I have to install an application like gdebi (except for Linux executable) to be able to just double click and run it?

As far as I know, GNOME can't act like MS or OSX when we wan't to rename a file..you know, when you slightly re click the file name and its ready to be renamed.. instead, I should go right click - context menu - rename to do that.
Is there any setting or apps for these?
Just a minor frustration, I have not found how to do this, double clicking serves what purpose? Am I going to change my mind between clicks?

View 1 Replies View Relatedwhen i click my mouse on something, it sometimes registers as two clicks. it doesn't happen all the time, but frequently enough to be annoying. for example, when i click a videos video to pause it, it often opens into fullscreen (which you normally click twice to do). also, in the url bar of chromium, i can't select the entire url by clicking. i now need to use ctrl+a. that's also because when i try to select the url, the highlight randomly disappears.
if i have multiple windows open, my click on the first "x" of the top-most window also closes the next window. i'm on linux mint 10. it's not really important, but it drives me crazy sometimes when my mouse doesn't work the way i want it to.
About a week ago I installed some updates. What they were I don't remember. After I did that my mouse started acting up. Now about half the time when I single click it registers as a double click. Also when I click and drag to select text anywhere it'll randomly do another click screwing up that process.
So far I think the problem is when I press the left mouse button it registers the left click and then when I release, it randomly registers another left click.
The mouse itself works fine if I take it to another PC that's using windows.
OS: Ubuntu 9.10 64bit
Mouse: Microsoft Intellimouse 3.0
mouse menu different in 10.10, is there a way to make the mouse single click instead of double click?

If I normally click the Trash icon either in Kmail or in Evolution more than one mail gets deleted in a sequential order! I have to press the click button extremely light to avoid this problem. I have confirmed this problem is not only with the Email clients but even with most other normal applications too. I have changed my mouse twice but the problem persists. Both were USB mice. I have a Lexmark 736DN printer (color, 2-sided printing). With openSUSE 11.3, there was non specific driver to pick during printer installation: I picked up "Lexmark C772dn Foomatic/Postscript" and everything was fine (at least I didn't notice problems). With openSUSE 11.4, there's no such a driver! Even more, the list of drivers for lexmark is a lot, lot shorter than the list present in 11.3. C772dn is not present so i picked up "Lexmark 4076 - CUPS + Gutenprint v5.2.6": but there is no color option and non double sided printing! what's up? Maybe I miss a rpm with printer's drivers (not installed by default)?

There appears to be some type of kludgy, but unsatisfactory fix for this unwanted behavior in the Accessibility-option, under Mouse-Preferences.

Right clicking on the Audio Disc icon that appears on the desktop whenever I load a disc doesn't give me an option to Play using VLC. Is there a way to make VLC the default player for CDs?
View 9 Replies View RelatedSince I enjoyed Gnome shell with Ubuntu 9.10 (but Ubuntu runs too slow on this computer for my druthers), I thought it would be fun to check out gnome shell on 11.3. I thought that since my 11.3 has gnome 2.30, that the gnome shell in the software manager would be a concomitant version, so I installed it. I then followed the directions given in the second posting of Enabling Gnome Shell in 11.3?
When I logged back in, I selected Gnome 3 Preview [even though I hadn't thought that that was what I'd installed -- (has openSUSE retired all older versions of Gnome shell?)]. The desktop won't boot (I don't know what the correct way of saying it is). The splash shows, but the icons just intermittently flash off and on at random intervals, never quite making it all the way "on." When I right click the bottom of the screen, I can select "terminal" (when I can accurately coordinate my double-click with the random, intermittent flashing), but then the terminal also does the random, intermittent flashing as well. So I can never get anything typed in. When I reboot, there's no login box.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI upgraded from Kubuntu 9.10 to 10.04. It was a fresh install of kubuntu, although I did leave a windows partition on there elsewhere. Grub messed up but I fixed that with a small text edit. Anyway, when I click on a file, i.e. Open Office writer or Calc, the computer thinks about it for like 60 seconds and then finally Open Office (version 3.2.0)finishes opening the file. It also does this while saving some files. It did not do this this version 9.10 which really amazes me. I have deleted OOo and reinstalled it several times and nothing helps. All other file handling seems normal, and it is a fast newer computer with a lot of memory.

I have noticed that the files and folders search in Unity, only shows up those files which have been amended (or possibly just opened) since the install.
i was wondering if there was a way i could have the search index (or something vaguely equivalent) all the files on my machine. This is especially important given that i reinstall the OS every six months on a new distribution cycle, copying all my old files across.
Without being able to see my old files the search is pretty much reduced to a recent history search.
Strange. After a recent update, I can no longer right click on a folder and open it as Administrator. I get this error message:
Unable to determine the program to run.
The item you selected cannot be open with administrator powers because the correct application cannot be determined.
I don't quite get this but why is it looking for a program to run? I only want to open a folder, not run a program. Anyway, I have done an uninstall and re-install of nautilus-gksu but that did not solve the problem. I have googled but no answers I could use.
Again, all I want to do is open a folder as Administrator so I can perform other operations that require root permission on files in that folder.
using: 10.04 LTS fully updated
10.10 on a ext4 partition. I deleted a folder that sat on a NTFS partition that I use as data storage. I note that if I delete folders or files on this NTFS partition there is not the option to move to waste basket - it is just deleted. If the folder still exists on the hard drive (has not been over written) I may be able to retrieve it - but where could it be? On the NTFS partition?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI haven't used Eclipse on my laptop for a few months now, but all of a sudden I can't seem to right click anywhere in the program. The right mouse button still works for everything else (ie: in Firefox I can right click and the menu will appear). In Eclipse, though, if I right click on a project name, it will select the project, but no menu will appear (even if it is currently open project). This isn't how it used to act (nor is it, obviously, how is should act) but I'm not entirely sure what would have caused it. In all likelihood there was a system update that I forgot about, but has anyone come across this problem before?

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy eeepc 900 works well in general, i am very happy with it, and mostly with lucid. But I suddenly ,3 days ago, discovered that my left click button doesn't work anymore. Could it be software related?It happened on my 700 surf for a little while, but before I could really get worked up, it had resolved itself. btw my 900 is maybe old but has not till I aquired it seen much use, I doubt it could be from overuse, but then again, you never know..

On workspaces, I created a second workspace but the Workspace Switcher doesn't want to show the 2nd workspace; the display should show a blank window. Also the split screen option doesn't work. Do I need an applet (Pager) to sort this out?
