Ubuntu :: On Remote Reboot, Bypass KDE Daemon Kwalletmanager?
Jan 3, 2011
I tried a remote reboot via ssh. I couldn't log back in even though sshd is a startup script, because the KDE daemon wanted me to enter my kwallet password...which is of course part of the DE, not something accessible via ssh. How do I turn off that check or automate it?

I have a server that said a volume was dirty and to check it at reboot, so someone did a shutdown -rF now. Only problem is the other volumes are HUGE and it will take forever, which I cant have happen. The volume with the trouble is non-critical so I could take it offline and check it that way if i can get this to boot quickly. How can I do that if its going to auto check every volume on reboot now?

I've installed transmission-daemon on my headless Ubuntu 11.04 server and use the web interface to manage it. This is all working fine. However, after a reboot it seems that transmission daemon starts but the webinterface is unavailable. I get this in the syslog after a reboot:
Code:
Jun 22 10:54:27 localhost transmission-daemon[703]: Transmission 2.31 (12441) started (session.c:706)

My problem now is that lsyncd does not automatically start if the server reboots. I need lsyncd to start automatically also using the --delay 5 option.
I've had trouble finding any info on this other that some Japanese sites (I cant read japanese) using chkconfig, although it didn't work as I think chkconfig is depreciated anyway.

I'm probably doing something stupid, but I thought I'd ask here, because I'm stumped. I'm on slackware 12.2, KDE 3.5 and AIR 2.02.When Echofon abruptly stopped linux support, I switched to tweetdeck (v. 0.34.3.2). It worked great, and they recently pushed a new update. I installed it, deleted the ELS directory in ~/.appdata/Adobe/AIR, and it was unable to find any stored data in kwalletmanager. (I got the error that it wasn't able to find any stored data and that AIR isn't installed properly--the error one gets when tweetdeck is started without kwalletmanager running.)
I deleted the entry in kwalletmanager for AIR, deleted the ELS directory again, and restarted it. Same error, and no new entry in kwalletmanager was made. I downgraded to the previous version (0.32.3.2), and it worked perfectly once more.

I have an Ubuntu Desktop machine that I have to frequently access remotely - sometimes after it has rebooted. I'm not concerned about physical security for the machine but I am concerned about remote security.
Since normal VNC isn't activated until after the login, what is the best way to go about remotely accessing this machine's desktop without having hands on it?
I've tried setting auto-login but then I run into the keyring not unlocked problem. Disabling the keyring or setting a blank password seems like a bad idea.

I'm trying to figure out if I can do a remote reboot (eg over ssh) and specify a new grub2 os choice for the next boot only (once), in order to boot windows remotely once, but then back to linux on the next reboot.I found this related post for grub, but won't work for grub2 ( I never tried it with grub for a remote reboot)[URL]which suggests changing the default menu option with the once flag:
[root@localhost ~]# echo "savedefault --default=2 --once" | grub --batch
[root@localhost ~]# reboot
I'm just starting to work with grub2 and am not at all clear whether I can do anything similar

Upgraded webserver to Jessie as an upgrade to Wheezy produced errors, and before reboot everything was up and running, but as all upgrade docs and info I read, I rebooted the server. However it never came back. I have the original backup files before I did the Wheezy upgrade. I also have access by Rescue to the server.Made a back up of critical files and have a 24GB tar file and I can connect by SFTP.
how to check the Debian files... Grub etc.. I would prefer to find the issue than start again.I am not able to sudo from Putty. I cannot run apt-get update. I did go to chroot, but then I get unable to resolve host errors and Could not open lock file because Permission denied errors and asking if I am root. There is information by googling for start up issues, but as I am working remotely with a Rescue set up, a lot of the commands I see and have tied do not work.

I have a persistent installation of 10.10 on a USB thumb drive installed with the Universal USB Installer. When I boot, it always brings up the welcome screen, with the languages on the left side, the big "Try Ubuntu" button in the center, and an "Install Ubuntu" button on the right. I just want to run ubuntu from the USB stick. When I click on "Try Ubuntu" the system hangs for 2-3 minutes, requires a force-quit and then brings up the desktop.
If, at the beginning of the boot process, I interrupt it bringing up the initial menu, I can select "English" then "Run Ubuntu from this USB", and it boots very quickly directly to the desktop. Before this install I was running 9.04 and later 10.04 from the same USB stick and had no issue with it booting directly to the desktop. Ideally I'd like to not need to intervene and just have load to the desktop. Do I need to make some changes to grub?

I realise that passwords are a good thing but I'm getting fed up having to enter a password just to get my wireless network to work every time I switch on Ubuntu or when I log out and back in again.
Seeing as there is nobody in the house that I want to keep away from the computer, is there a way to automatically sign-in to my wireless network without having that annoying key-chain popping up every time?

I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 off a desktop. I was using it for quite a while up until last night when out of nowhere while surfin', and browsing, the screen just turned white, I've tried restarting by powering off manually, as I couldn't get it to any other way. After the computer restarts, it might flash black for a sec a couple of times, then back to being white again, the BIOS screen doesn't even show up. It sounds like in the background the computer might still be loading up. My monitor is a 21"LCD, if that means anything?

Yesterday I was working on Ubuntu, i shut down the computer normally, and then when i restarted it like an hour later i couldn't bypass the login screen. I insert my username & password correctly and the screen goes back for one second and then displays the login and password inputs again. I have just one username there. Before i shut it down i was trying to install Eclipse, so i messed around with some files related to Eclipse only, if that has anything to do with the problem. I also have Windows XP installed along with Ubuntu 9.10.

I've read the documentation, but I'm still confused. I have two servers, one running Postfix and SquirrelMail, and another i want to setup a wiki(already setup) and Photo Gallery. On my Second server(2)I have two virutal webservers, wiki.rmasonfamily.info and photo.rmasonfamily.info, both running on port 80.My first computer is running my mail server again as a virtual server, mail.rmasonfamily.info. Default server is not used in either one.
Server 1 will be my proxy server, and if I understand correctly, my reverse proxy. Ubuntu had Apache set with a configuration in etc/apache2 using sites-available with configuration for each Virtual Server with sites-enabled with links to configuration files in sites-available. My Virtual Server in Server 2 are working fine, along with my mail server in Server 1. this is the code I assume I must use to bypass to wiki.rmasonfamily.info. In server 1, under sites-available, in the file wiki.rmasonfamily.info this is the code I put
<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerName wiki.rmasonfamily.info
ProxyRequests Off
ProxyPreserveHost On
[code]....
Doesn't work, I know I'm doing something wrong...

point me at a free proxy to bypass this which can simply be installed, built and/or run.setting up a server outside china and running a tunnel to it from my comp is not an option. also, below is a list of sofware that i have tried and failed to work:
Tor with vidalia
Tun with squid (i think squid)
hamachi (which i later realized would never have worked)
i tried to get haystack but it wouldn't build.
PS: if this post is in the wrong area, please tell me where to move it...

I have installed Suse 11.3 on /dev/sdc which is a hard drive connected to a usb port. Windows 7 lives on /dev/sdb in the box. Another drive sda is in the box also. I configured bios to boot the usb drive first. Grub is installed on /dev/sdc mbr. My scheme is to allow me to boot directly to Windows if the usb drive is not powered up, and directly to Suse if it is powered up. That all works. However, I would like to bypass the grub menu and boot right into Suse, like what happens with Windows, not having to select an entry from that pesky grub menu.
What is the best way to configure the system so that this can work? I've done a lot of searching but there are too many grub horror stories in the haystack to find this particular needle. Also, I've had my share of problems recently after losing control of the boot process somehow and not being able to boot into Suse at all. All of the postings I found on the net about recovering from that turned out to be phoney in some way and I had to reinstall to bet better. I'd like not to repeat that scenario.

I am using FC11. My problem is whatever application that needs access to the internet are blocked by company's proxy server. So, configuration is like
my_machine---------> firewall ----------> outside world..google and etc
Now, If I am using firefox then I have configured it to use proxy server and required login details and etc. But, my eclipse, ssh, git and all those needs internet connection as well... Is there anything like which sets all details (proxy server, user name and passwd) system wide ? So that I dont have to pass it to each application...

I'm using Fedora 10 as a proxy server using squid, but I recently noticed that some users use the IPS's Dns to bypass the proxy and surf the web freely. So my question is, is this a problem with Squid or perhaps I can solve the problem whit IPTables.

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 as a web/ftp/etc server. I like to work on stuff from remote locations and have set it up to be accessed it with the external IP address by my laptop. The problem is that if I'm at a remote location and tell it to restart, when it boots up it won't log me on unless I enter the password, but I can't remote access it until I'm logged in.So, is there a command or script that I can run that will tell it to restart and bypass entering a login password?I'm only looking for something to bypass it ONCE per command/script, NOT to disable my password.
