The firewall (IPTABLES) are already disabled.The problem is we have an internal web based application by which the users add the data in it. when the user type the ip address in the browser i.e http://10.1.7.21:81/mis squid shows Code:ERRORThe requested URL could not be retrievedWhile trying to retrieve the URL: http://10.1.7.21:81/mis/The following error was encountered:Access Denied.Access control configuration prevents your request from being allowed at this time. Please contact your service provider if you feel this is incorrect.Your cache administrator is root.We have another proxy server MS ISA 2006 and by changing proxy from Linux squid to MS ISA we can access the page.

That means: A new Notebook gets about DHCP the Network-Information like IP-Adress etc.. When he now tries to open a Internet connection it should check if he's authenticated and if not he should get (if this try is from a browser) a login screen in http. It should also not be possible to have internetconnection without being logged in. The clients are Windoze, Mac and Linux. My question now. What programms/deamons are there for doing this authentication. Would you decide for another Programm instead of Squid?

Feb 18, 2011I have installed Suse 11.3 on /dev/sdc which is a hard drive connected to a usb port. Windows 7 lives on /dev/sdb in the box. Another drive sda is in the box also. I configured bios to boot the usb drive first. Grub is installed on /dev/sdc mbr. My scheme is to allow me to boot directly to Windows if the usb drive is not powered up, and directly to Suse if it is powered up. That all works. However, I would like to bypass the grub menu and boot right into Suse, like what happens with Windows, not having to select an entry from that pesky grub menu.
What is the best way to configure the system so that this can work? I've done a lot of searching but there are too many grub horror stories in the haystack to find this particular needle. Also, I've had my share of problems recently after losing control of the boot process somehow and not being able to boot into Suse at all. All of the postings I found on the net about recovering from that turned out to be phoney in some way and I had to reinstall to bet better. I'd like not to repeat that scenario.

Oct 14, 2010I have a persistent installation of 10.10 on a USB thumb drive installed with the Universal USB Installer. When I boot, it always brings up the welcome screen, with the languages on the left side, the big "Try Ubuntu" button in the center, and an "Install Ubuntu" button on the right. I just want to run ubuntu from the USB stick. When I click on "Try Ubuntu" the system hangs for 2-3 minutes, requires a force-quit and then brings up the desktop.
If, at the beginning of the boot process, I interrupt it bringing up the initial menu, I can select "English" then "Run Ubuntu from this USB", and it boots very quickly directly to the desktop. Before this install I was running 9.04 and later 10.04 from the same USB stick and had no issue with it booting directly to the desktop. Ideally I'd like to not need to intervene and just have load to the desktop. Do I need to make some changes to grub?

I was using it for quite a while up until last night when out of nowhere while surfin', and browsing, the screen just turned white, I've tried restarting by powering off manually, as I couldn't get it to any other way. After the computer restarts, it might flash black for a sec a couple of times, then back to being white again, the BIOS screen doesn't even show up. It sounds like in the background the computer might still be loading up. My monitor is a 21"LCD, if that means anything?

I insert my username & password correctly and the screen goes back for one second and then displays the login and password inputs again. I have just one username there. Before i shut it down i was trying to install Eclipse, so i messed around with some files related to Eclipse only, if that has anything to do with the problem. Jul 23, 2010I have a server that said a volume was dirty and to check it at reboot, so someone did a shutdown -rF now. Only problem is the other volumes are HUGE and it will take forever, which I cant have happen. The volume with the trouble is non-critical so I could take it offline and check it that way if i can get this to boot quickly. How can I do that if its going to auto check every volume on reboot now?

Jan 20, 2011I am VERY new to linux and have managed to install Fedora 14, xmame.SDL and Wah!Cade and finally got it all working great! My final step in my setup is (since the only use for this machine is wahcade) to be able to switch the computer on and boot straight into wahcade...and eventually hide all traces of Fedora during boot. I have managed to get the login to Autologin by adding some lines at the end of /etc/gdm/custom.conf:

However, I still get the login box but with "Autologin" on it which I have to click ok for or wait about 15 seconds and it goes away. (I was under the impression the timedlogindelay as 0 would be instant) Then immediately after that it still asks for a keyring password.
How can I just get rid of the whole login process (like a single user thing) and just have the thing boot straight to the desktop? Also, once I achieve that, how can I make it open wahcade? And can I remove all the icons from the desktop somehow?
Everything I have come across on tinternet seems to assume I know linux inside out so answering in dummy step by step terms is more than welcome. I have a programming background but I am unfamiliar with linux programs, plugins, terminal, terms etc.

I found that in 11.4 mplayer would fail to start playing a MP3 clip, but succeed on the second and subsequent tries, but only within a short time afterwards. A quick examination showed that this was because mplayer was firing off an instance of pulseaudio, which stayed around for a while, then exited. This was not acceptable for a clip played from a cron job so I found the way to bypass pulseaudio for mplayer was by putting this line in ~/.mplayer/config:

Worked fine afterwards. I don't know if this affects the ability to output audio from other apps while the sound device is in use, but I don't have that situation, so this workaround suits me.

I have two servers, one running Postfix and SquirrelMail, and another i want to setup a wiki(already setup) and Photo Gallery.On my Second server(2)I have two virutal webservers, wiki.rmasonfamily.info and photo.rmasonfamily.info, both running on port 80.My first computer is running my mail server again as a virtual server, mail.rmasonfamily.info. Default server is not used in either one.
Server 1 will be my proxy server, and if I understand correctly, my reverse proxy. Ubuntu had Apache set with a configuration in etc/apache2 using sites-available with configuration for each Virtual Server with sites-enabled with links to configuration files in sites-available. My Virtual Server in Server 2 are working fine, along with my mail server in Server 1. this is the code I assume I must use to bypass to wiki.rmasonfamily.info. In server 1, under sites-available, in the file wiki.rmasonfamily.info this is the code I put

CentOS 5 :: Bypass File System Check?
Dec 1, 2009On my laptop I have a dual boot system, CentOS 5.4 on one partition and Windows Vista on the other. In Windows, I have a program installed that allows me to access my linux partition so I have access to the files. Every time I boot into linux after accessing the linux partition through windows, I get a forced file system check. I was wondering if there is a way to disable or perhaps bypass this check?
