Ubuntu :: Free Proxy To Bypass This Which Can Simply Be Installed?

point me at a free proxy to bypass this which can simply be installed, built and/or run.setting up a server outside china and running a tunnel to it from my comp is not an option. also, below is a list of sofware that i have tried and failed to work:
Tor with vidalia
Tun with squid (i think squid)
hamachi (which i later realized would never have worked)
i tried to get haystack but it wouldn't build.

I've read the documentation, but I'm still confused. I have two servers, one running Postfix and SquirrelMail, and another i want to setup a wiki(already setup) and Photo Gallery.On my Second server(2)I have two virutal webservers, wiki.rmasonfamily.info and photo.rmasonfamily.info, both running on port 80.My first computer is running my mail server again as a virtual server, mail.rmasonfamily.info. Default server is not used in either one.
Server 1 will be my proxy server, and if I understand correctly, my reverse proxy. Ubuntu had Apache set with a configuration in etc/apache2 using sites-available with configuration for each Virtual Server with sites-enabled with links to configuration files in sites-available. My Virtual Server in Server 2 are working fine, along with my mail server in Server 1. this is the code I assume I must use to bypass to wiki.rmasonfamily.info. In server 1, under sites-available, in the file wiki.rmasonfamily.info this is the code I put

ProxyRequests Off
ProxyPreserveHost On

I am using FC11. My problem is whatever application that needs access to the internet are blocked by company's proxy server. So, configuration is like
my_machine---------> firewall ----------> outside world..google and etc
Now, If I am using firefox then I have configured it to use proxy server and required login details and etc. But, my eclipse, ssh, git and all those needs internet connection as well... Is there anything like which sets all details (proxy server, user name and passwd) system wide ? So that I dont have to pass it to each application...

An application that supports SOCKS 5 protocol can forward its network connection over ssh and dynamically forward to any host name that you specify isn't it ? that means firebox web browser can use SOCKS 5 protocol can be used by pass proxy settings isn't it ? so how can a sys admin remotely detect if a particular user is bypassing proxy settings using SOCKS 5 protocol ?

installed dansguardian and now working fine.I got a small problem. People bypassing proxy settings in firefox, means they go to settings and changes proxy settings to no proxy.. how to prevent this? How can I force people to use proxy to connect Internet? I done some googling but, unable to find a solution.

My company web access is behind proxy(http://abc.proxy). Network admin can get to check who is top10 user and web they access. I owned a centos server. I have a thought that create an encrypted tunnel within proxy so the admin cant detect my http address. This is how it going to works
client with OpenVPN -> OpenVPN server(centos with company proxy)-> proxy -> internet
My connectivity in my client are using OpenVPN server as bridge. Hence, no record for client is recorded in my Network admin monitoring list. OpenVPN server's activity can be traced by network monitoring tools, just assume that our ultimate goal is to hide client activity.

I want to install L7 iptables on my Linux that is used as a firewall for my internal network composed of some 200 computers. For my IDS , I plan to use Snort. Can I install snort on the same linux that I use as my firewall, or I have to install it on a different PC. Do I need to make use of L7 iptables, while I implement Snort. Shall I use Snort as IDS or IDPS? Where is the best place to install Snort, inside or outside the fire wall? Do I need to have a separate professional proxy installed on the linux, or the L7 proxy is sufficient? What would be the minimum hardware resource that Snorts requires(CPU, Ram)? For better security and performance , do I need to replace my present Linux with a PIX or any other hardware firewall?

During playing around sources, synaptic playing I messed up the default list. I know I should have been more careful. Anyways could someone tell me what the default the default sources.list that has free and non free etc for squueze please? I have been trying to get the default list but I cannot find it anywhere. I've got a question on free disk space. I'm currently running CentOS 5.5 on in Xenserver virtual environment. We've had an issue with disk space. My question is as follows: - from a ssh connection i run df -h this gives the value of 90% used leaving me with 9GB. If I use system monitor via a VNC connection the free disk space value is 20GB free on the same volume. Which one is correct? I do use SNMP to monitor the same volume and should alert me when < 10% is free I know this works as I set the alert threshold to < 90% I get an alert.

Am I asking too much for a FREE OS? Everybody spend their precious time to help others, that's very helpful.But it seems like there is no support from UBUNTU team,how could we even get through the barrier of not using Microsoft's OSes? No free lunch of course, but it seems to me some issues have never really been solved.I read lot's of people have problem with their WIFI, not just for my OLD USB wifi adapter. I don't have problem with WIFI in XP/Server.

Lately, I have found that I have to go back to Vista (yes, old Vista no one loves) to burn an iso file on to a CD-RW. Brasero simply don't even see the CD-RW to even blank it, let alone burn the new iso file. I am using Ubuntu 10.04. As I have Debian 6 (gnome and KDE) I tried the same CD-RW, but neither Brasero, nor KDE's K3B 'saw' the CD-RW.But, the in that Vista, the CD/ISO burning software 'saw' the CD-RW without fail. Btw, this same problem happens with Unetbootin. Linux Unetbootin works worse than the Vista Unetbootin!Now, I have to use Vista to burn CD/DVD/Isos.Is there a some special problem with Linux burning software? my two partitions (ubuntu and WinXP) worked fine, i always had a boot option at startup. however, my Win boot option simply disappeared. I did not do any update recently, so I do not really understand what could have happened. My /media/windows is also completely empty. when i try to open the windows partition, it says "could not mount".

Grub installed from 9 or 10 ubuntu simply won't load Windows.Ubuntu and GRUB on IDE hdd, Windows on SATA HDD.Installed all default options, just clicked thru install and when attempting to boot Windows XP screen is blank with a blinking cursor in the top corner.Same thing happened earlier when I ran Fedora 11 then 12.Different version of same result.Can't Canonic work with Grub developers to at least make a workable configuration r it's default setup?Searched the web, in a 1000 places same solution is offered: adding a few lines to menu.lst.1) the lines are already there2) this is for the old version of grub.Does grub actually work for anyone out there? Or is it only supposed to work in weird configurations?

I've been trying to make myself anonymous, but I cant find 'Tor' anywhere, tried 'yum & kpackagekit' neither have it. I did find 'Privoxy', installed it, set proxy for HTTP and HTTPS in Firefox, but it says 'unknown proxy' when I try to use it! I've been to the Privoxy web site and read through the 'User manual', but most of it is 'geek' to me!

I have a persistent installation of 10.10 on a USB thumb drive installed with the Universal USB Installer. When I boot, it always brings up the welcome screen, with the languages on the left side, the big "Try Ubuntu" button in the center, and an "Install Ubuntu" button on the right. I just want to run ubuntu from the USB stick. When I click on "Try Ubuntu" the system hangs for 2-3 minutes, requires a force-quit and then brings up the desktop.
If, at the beginning of the boot process, I interrupt it bringing up the initial menu, I can select "English" then "Run Ubuntu from this USB", and it boots very quickly directly to the desktop. Before this install I was running 9.04 and later 10.04 from the same USB stick and had no issue with it booting directly to the desktop. Ideally I'd like to not need to intervene and just have load to the desktop. Do I need to make some changes to grub?

I realise that passwords are a good thing but I'm getting fed up having to enter a password just to get my wireless network to work every time I switch on Ubuntu or when I log out and back in again.
Seeing as there is nobody in the house that I want to keep away from the computer, is there a way to automatically sign-in to my wireless network without having that annoying key-chain popping up every time?

I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 off a desktop. I was using it for quite a while up until last night when out of nowhere while surfin', and browsing, the screen just turned white, I've tried restarting by powering off manually, as I couldn't get it to any other way. After the computer restarts, it might flash black for a sec a couple of times, then back to being white again, the BIOS screen doesn't even show up. It sounds like in the background the computer might still be loading up. My monitor is a 21"LCD, if that means anything?

Yesterday I was working on Ubuntu, i shut down the computer normally, and then when i restarted it like an hour later i couldn't bypass the login screen. I insert my username & password correctly and the screen goes back for one second and then displays the login and password inputs again. I have just one username there. Before i shut it down i was trying to install Eclipse, so i messed around with some files related to Eclipse only, if that has anything to do with the problem. I also have Windows XP installed along with Ubuntu 9.10.

I am trying to set up my squid3 proxy as a transparent proxy - right now, I have to manually configure browsers to access via proxy. I understand that I have to put some rules into Iptables and also some further directives in the squid.conf.
I have a couple of specific questions. The proxy server is running on a Ubuntu 10.04 workstation and this machine also acts as a dhcp server for the network. I have just one subnet , namely 192.168.0.1-254 There is only 1 network card. Is it much easier to put in a second network card or is it just as easy to configure the existing lan card as a dual IP?
Is it necessary to configure these 2 IP's ( whether they are via 2 lan cards or dual IP on single card ) to be on different subnets. i.e ETH0 192.168.0.1 and ETH1 192.168.1.1 or is ok to have something like ETH0 192.168.0.1 and ETH1 192.168.0.254 ( where ETH0 is the one facing the LAN and ETH1 points to the modem router / switch i.e The Internet ) Where specifically do I save the Iptables rule configuration file and what must I call it ?
