I just ran apt update in terminal and got the usual listing of packages, but at the end I got the following: W: GPG error: The Opera .deb Repository stable Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY F9A2F76A9D1A0061 Anyone have a fix for this? I was once able to use the following, but I'm now using Mint-8, not the OS I was using before. This is what once worked for me: type:
Given that my public key is a pre-shared secret is sshd made in a way that this negates the possibility of a man in the middle attack? In other words, if the known_hosts file were to be deleted, would it be safe to ignore the fingerprint of a server that already has my public key in authorized_keys?
I was installing last night some applications , then i forgot to plugin my laptop so suddenly it turned off , anyways today i turned it on , while booting it gave me this error : "error where found when mounting the disk file /"so i press I to ignore , and it works , but now how can i fix this error?
I am having a problem installing SLES11 on a new server. It goes fine through the setup until it gets to GRUB, it gets me the following error message: Error occurred while installing GRUB
Ubuntu 9.10 was set up to handle the booting selection - previously I thought it was xp but Ubuntu 9.10 "did" it. The system started out as a xp / ubuntu 9.10 dual boot on a 400gb drive. xp has 210gb, ub has 80 and their is a 100gb shared storage. Xp was installed first and then I followed a guide over at linuxconfig.org to get ub installed so that I could select which OS was wanted at boot. Ubuntu manages the boot up menu (Went back to look at my notes from the original setup) The owner tried to update to ub 11.04 and afterall was said and done the machine now boots to the message
error file not found grub rescue I can't say if 11.04 was properly installed or not. Ask whatever you like and I'll give the best answer I can. I think the xp install is okay but I can't say for certain as I don't know how to boot it outside the bootmanager at startup. Data has been saved so if I have to blow it all away and start over I can but I'm hoping I won't have to.
After upgrading to 10.04 from 9.10 Win7 wouldn't startup any more. So I tried this HowTo: [URL] to restore Grub2. But now each time I boot up I get this two lines: error file not found grub rescue> I have NO idea what to do.
I have a long running 9.10 installation. All of a sudden, on boot, I get this error: "loading initial ramdisk error: file not found" If I hit 'E' at the menu entry, I can scroll all the way to the end of the boot command, and it appears that the last 'c' on 'generic' is missing from the kernel name. If I add the c and hit ctrl-x it boots fine. The grub.cfg appears to be correct, it has the full generic spelled out.
just installed a fresh copy of fedora 12 and getting this error when trying to update the system.
Code:
Error Type: <class 'yum.Errors.RepoError'> Error Value: Error getting repository data for installed, repository not found File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3125, in <module> main()
Running System>Adminstration>Software Udates, I get the following errors

Similarly, if I click on System>Add/Remove Software>Package Collections, I get No groups could be found. A cache refresh should fix this. I don't see how to do a cache refresh. I tried rpm --rebuilddb, which didn't do any good and um clean all which also did no good. I did manage to do the updates with yum updates But I don't want to have to use yum at the command line all the time to do updates.
I'm trying to install 10.04, but have hit a few bumps. The first time I tried to boot the live cd, the monitor frequency would go out of range. I fixed this by deleting the
Code: ro quiet splash from the end of the boot line, and replacing it with Code: ro vga=773 nomodeset
After booting with this modification to the kernel line, rather than booting into the live cd desktop, it takes me to a command setting. To try and get things moving I type
I've just got Ubuntu 10.10 and I also downloaded the most recent version of Wine at the same time, but I've got 4 torrents I've downloaded and I can't run any of them this same message keeps coming up:

I have a problem with "places" in the panel. Error file not found comes up on all top 7 in list from Home folder to downloads. I can get to my files by going via computer, and to file system. How do i restore, so these items in Places work again ?
i just installed ubuntu natty from windows few days ago , then switched to Xubuntu for better performance with my 512 ram .
now the application menu gives me "No application found" , but i can still open applications from terminal. and updates are installed.
i tried to add new application menu but still the same , there isn't anything odd in "edit menu" , i choosed the default one but still no applications found.
while running jdowanloader from terminal i noticed that "package manager file " or something like that doesn't exist ,
how can i fix the menu ? or at least how can i install its plugin?
when i switched for linux i was looking for performance and stability of the system on my relatively low spec pc , but Xubuntu freezes and hangs may be more than winXp "i still don't know why", and performance isn't that fast "swap memory 767 , ram 488 , nearly all the windows effects are disabled." ,
ubuntu software center also greatly slows the system when i run it
how can i can make Xubuntu faster than that? or at least stop freezing? how to fix ubuntu software center freeze??
About 1 week ago, one of my PC's Hard Drives had stopped working. Because of that, I replaced the HD with a 2-set of Hard Disks from a earlier PC (whose Pentium 4 CPU failed). Because of a failed attempt in dual-booting with M$ WINDOW$, the MBR and Linux are separated between the hard drives. The computer booted up fine on first try (and even got into KDE), but it's internet didn't work (didn't even show eth0 on ifconfig). I decided to install some software via my old 8.04 LiveCD (I can't afford to format that PC for I have critical data on it, 0 DVDs, and no Flash drive), mounting it then chrooting it remembering to mount dev/pts sys and proc. Because the system was something old (Debian Squeeze from ~1 month ago), It had a kernel and GRUB upgrades which I missed among the ~600 others. Naturally, it failed to upgrade because of the missing /dev. Finally, I restarted my computer hoping for a upgraded PC with the programs. However, I instead got this:
Code: | Sec. Slave Disk : LBA,SATA, 160GB -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I get the "Could not download all repository indexes" error whenever I check for updates in update manager. In the error window it says this: "Failed to fetch [URL] 404 Not Found. Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead. I'm not sure what this repository is for, so I can remove it, but I just want to make sure this is not the "main" repository that I get updates from. Will I still keep getting my system updates if I remove it?
what I think will be a long post, but I want to include as much information as possible to get some help. I post my question here because it is mostly a boot issue and not strictly a server issue, although that is what I am trying to install. I bought a used server, motherboard has all IDE connectors for HD and cd/dvd. The board is am Asus cuv4x-d. It is a rather old board, introduced to market around Sept. 2000. The two IDE hard drives that came with the mobo have presented the problem as what I will describe for the SATA problem. I wanted to use my SATA-Hard Drive as my storage. I bought an SATA-to-IDE adapter. I installed the hardware and booted from the Ubuntu Server cd. Everything went fine and the installation smooth. When the initial reboot started, this is where the error comes. I get an error that says, Error: out of disk. The next line shows a grub rescue prompt. It appears that Grub can't be found. The motherboard has a Primary and Secondary IDE connection. I have tried connecting the adapter to both.
I downloaded the new gparted (6.4.1 I think) and when I try to run it from a live cd in the default settings it keeps telling me that it can't find my screens. I have an intel video card. I haven't had this problem with older versions of gparted. I suppose I could use an older version, but I'd like to know what the problem is.
Iv been using ubuntu on my laptop for just over a year now and thought it about time my desktop got the same. I cant get rid of the vista section of the disk because of things i have on there so a friend gave me a spare 80gb hard drive to have a play with it and go from there. So first of all installed unbuntu 10.10 on the hard drive alls fine i can boot into both vista and ubuntu, i then want to install backtrack 4, so i booted the backtrack disc and off we went, i split the 80gb hard drive in two and installed backtrack to one section, now i cant boot to anything other than backtrack. I got an option for ubuntu although this does look different now (showing up as 'ubuntu, with linux 2.6.35-22-generic-pae') when i go to this option i get the message "error 15:file not found" I also have the option for other operating system, i get this message when i choose this option "error 11: Unrecognized device string"
today I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 netbook edition in my Asus Eee Pc 1015PEM. I wanna install the broadcom drivers and I am following a tutorial. The problem appears when I need the gcc to install dkms..The error: The program 'gcc' can be found in the following packages:
* gcc * pentium-builder
I used "sudo apt-get install gcc pentium-builder", but the error doesnt disappear.
Use the Up and Down keys to select which entry is highlighted press enter to boot selected OS, "e" to edit the commands before booting, or c for command line.
Before it was not like this. How can I fix it for smooth running.
I tried to install Ubuntu 10.10 with a USB stick, but when I start the computer with the USB stick I got this:

Im using 10.04.
Connection is fine. Maybe something wrong with server or any of my repository

I am running Ubuntu both native and on virtualbox on windows XP host. The problem apeared when upgraded from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04. System boots perfectly WinXP and Ubuntu. But the problem appears when I try to boot linux on virtual box. Following is the grub error:
GRUB loading. error: the symbol 'grub_puts_' not found grub rescue> _
I've tried to boot from alternate CD and "update-grub2" but the problem still appears.
On my office Notebook (which is absolutely the same HP nc6320) I've installed ubuntu 10.04 from scratch and it is working.
