I have a second computer now. I succesfully installed the 'Ubuntu 10.04' 5 months ago but I had to unsintall it because apparently I got a virus when in a google search I clicked one video of cryptozoology (won't tell) and the screen went black or something. For the first time that pc frozen 3-4 times, so I was afraid I got a virus. Now I want to install the Ubuntu again but the Wubi windows keeps asking me for my password to continue.Okay, the problem is that I am using the correct pasword but still is asking me to use the correct one.

I backed up all my Wubi-files + the boot.ini etc. I reinstalled my Windows OS, then put my Wubi-files on a new partition D: . Put the wubildr.mdr file + wubildr in the C: dir. Changed the boot.ini to C:wubildr.mdr = "Ubuntu" . But when I select Ubuntu in the boot manager I get an error message (Couldn't load Windows, ntoskrnl corrupt - or something). What do I do wrong? Can't I just install a new Wubi using the installer and then replace the disk-file by the old one?

I ran the Wubi installer for Kubuntu 9.10 from XP on my old IBM Thinkpad T30. After install the system rebooted (complete with grub menu) and the KDE desktop launch successfully, however the task bar and menus are fuzzy, distorted and unreadable when I click them. Do I just need to change my display resolution? How do I do this without being able to see a menu?

I'm trying to install 10.04.2 on a Dell machine with no current OS. I finally found the thread that said to use the alternate installer if you have a RAID: so i'm using ubuntu-10.04.2-alternate-i386.iso, burned using Roxio on my (different) windows box.
I go through the early installer steps ok, get to partitioning, choose guided resize (potential tangent: first time this modified partitions #6 and #7, second time it was just "use entire disk"). Then "installing base system", then a dialog that says: Please insert the disk labeled "Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS _Lucid Lynx_ - release i386 (20110211.d) in '/cdrom/' and press enterWell, the disk is already in the drive, and the installer has previously claimed it's reading from /cdrom. Reinserting it doesn't change anything. My only choices are <Continue> or <Go Back>, both of which display the same message. So i can't get past this, or escape, or do anything other than power down.
Looking at the disk on my Win machine, it appears to be labeled "Ubuntu 10.04.2 L" (can't tell if that's truncated or not).
Does the installer really demand a certain label on the disc to succeed?? how to successfully install in this situation?
Update: just to be sure, i checked the md5sum, and it's correct.

I had used Wubi installer and when installing, it had asked for installation size which I specified as 20 gb as i didnt think i would use ubuntu much..but i loved ubuntu.. Is there any way to increase the size that I initially specified or do I have to reinstall the whole OS again??

Downloaded the Wubi exe today to install 10.10 on a new netbook. But at launch it reads, "You are about to install Ubuntu 10.04". So I guess wubi has not been updated yet for the new release?

"no need to burn a CD. Just run the installer, enter a password for the new account, and click "Install", go grab a coffee, and when you are back, Ubuntu will be ready for you." that's what it says on the wubi page. I did exactly that, then it asks to reboot which I did, and still no ubuntu. All I have is 3 folders, one icon and one application.
disks
install
winboot
ubuntu (just an icon, nothing happens when I click on it, just an image pops up) and uninstall-wubi.

this blew my mind today, because i've been using ubuntu for 2 and half years. Brasero 2.28.2 in Karmic does not have an option enable multisessions when burning disc or import a disc which has a multisession.
Seriously, wtf is going on? This is supposed to be Ubuntu's default CD authoring software.

I have just installed 11.3 x64. The installation went fine and worked for the first few hours. I ran the online update tool, and now it cannot find grub unless the installation disc is inserted and I select the "boot from hard disc" option.
I have read about the problem of the root partition being back, but not sure that's it.
sda1 - swap
sda2 - /
sda3 - /home
There used to be a repair tool in the installation disks. I could not find that in this media. Is that still available?

I wanted to install ubuntu via wubi, but i had to format my partitions (can't do it on wubi ) so i used a crappy program(i don't remember the name) to get rid of Backtrack4 , because i wanted windows kept for my mom.So, that was the sorry, i've ended up with a GRUB error 22, and a Backtrack4 CD stuck in my DVD-rom.So my question is: Can somewone tell me how to fix error 22? (i've seen some methods online, but i obviously can't put a Windows CD in my DVD rom because the Backtrack4 DVD is stuck in there.

I downloaded a live disc and installed ubuntu. The following day it wouldn't boot up so I went to deleting the partition. I got ripped off $100 because they had no clue what to do so they wiped my drive and reinstalled just windows instead of just using a recovery disc and typing "fxmbr". My friend borrowed me his ubuntu disc and I purchased another drive so that each OS could have its own drive. Well now neither of our discs work. Mine is a downloaded one his is one he was sent from Ubuntu.I am downloading another iso right now.

I had Ubuntu 10.10, upgraded to 11.04 beta, didn't like Unity and tried installing gnome 3 with directions online. Killed my ubuntu install. So I loaded Mint and thought maybe I would like that better. Decided to go back to Ubuntu, but keep having bootloader problems at the end of the install. I can still install Kubuntu or Mint whenever I want, but try to install Ubuntu 10.10 or 11.04 from disc and same bootloader problem.

2 weeks ago I installed 10.04 using the same ISO disc I am trying to use now. Other computer consisted of - ASUS P5GDC-V Deluxe mobo, P4 3.0 w/HT, 2 GB DDR400 OCZ platinum, radeon x300 PCIe graphics card and a sony dual layer dvd r/wr drive, WD 500GB SATA HDD.
Now using the same disc Im trying to install ubuntu 10.04 on this rig. ASUS A7N8X Deluxe mobo, Athlon XP 3200+, 2GB DDR 400 OCZ platinum, Radeon 9800XT AGP card, WD 500GB SATA HDD. ROM drive is set to first boot priority. It seems like it starts to boot, screen gets purple tinted background, and the small symbol/ guy show up at the bottom. Then the rom drive has some activity but the screen just goes blank and nothing ever happens.
I read somewhere that some older DVD rom drives can have trouble reading burned ISO images so I took the working ubuntu HDD out and put it in this computer but the same exact thing happened.

CD-R/W+DVD-R/W drive works fine for reading.
The last time I used it to burn was about a year ago. New discs are detected and I am offered to burn in K3b but K3b asks for media to be inserted (it already is).
Searched on some of these errors and this is a problem for others with indifferent solutions. Username is in cdrom group and /dev/scd0 is group cdrom rw. Latest updates and reboot changed nothing. Plus I am getting the k3b locale error even though I have LC_ALL="en_US.UTF-8" in my /etc/default/locale.
K3b runs after the warning but the Burn CD Image dialog always displays Burn Medium: Please insert an empty CD-R(W) medium... even though there is a CD-R in the drive.
So, I have a 10.04 ISO and no way to burn it.
Code:
$ wodim --devices
wodim: Overview of accessible drives (1 found) :
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
0 dev='/dev/scd0' rwrw-- : '_NEC' 'DVD+RW ND-5100A'
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
[Code]....

I've had some problems with my ubuntu lately (>.<) and would like to use my Windows 7 disc to install windows side by side with ubuntu (for compatibility reasons). The problem is, my computer won't boot the disc on startup, won't read it at all, and thus I can't install it. How can I make Ubuntu read the Windows 7 disc? All other discs work fine.
Its not just my disc- I've used this disc on other computers no problem, and my Ubuntu reads other discs without any problems.
