Ubuntu :: Won't Recognize Usb Or Disc
Feb 1, 2010When everything was working fine, when I inserted the usb or disc an icon would appear asking if I wanted to mount the drive. Now nothing appears. It's been like this almost a year.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: K3B Doesn't Recognize Disc In Drive?
Jul 20, 2010My K3B doesn't seem to recognise a blank CD in the drive tray.
I'm on OS 11.2, K3B & codecs from 11.2 packman, and 11.2 KDE4 factory (ie kde4.4).
When I put a blank cd in, the kde4 device notifier shows me a blank cd and offers to create a project with k3b. I create a data project & click burn, the burn dialog has a greyed out Burn button, and the media selector dropdown says please insert an empty or appendable medium.
If I eject & re-insert the disc at this point, the device notifier again tells me I've inserted a blank cd, k3b's dialog freezes for a second (seems to notice something has happened) but still does not list my cd and remains as it was before.
k3bsetup reports no problems. Burning from commandline (cdrecord) works fine. Dolphin also knows about the blank cd. I've burned to these discs before with no problems (K3B used to work quite recently, perhaps 4 or 5 weeks ago). Updates have been applied in the meantime.

Mar 10, 2010this blew my mind today, because i've been using ubuntu for 2 and half years. Brasero 2.28.2 in Karmic does not have an option enable multisessions when burning disc or import a disc which has a multisession.
Seriously, wtf is going on? This is supposed to be Ubuntu's default CD authoring software.

Dec 19, 2010I'm trying to install files and everytime I manage to install from the first disc I succeed. When I get the the second disc I just keep clicking the "OK" button instead of "Cancel" and it keeps neglecting it.

Jan 1, 2011I have just installed 11.3 x64. The installation went fine and worked for the first few hours. I ran the online update tool, and now it cannot find grub unless the installation disc is inserted and I select the "boot from hard disc" option.
I have read about the problem of the root partition being back, but not sure that's it.
sda1 - swap
sda2 - /
sda3 - /home
There used to be a repair tool in the installation disks. I could not find that in this media. Is that still available?
Fedora :: USB Disc - Access To USB Disc From Text Mode?
Dec 6, 2009I'm sorry for this stupid question, but I have nowhere found it.I need to access to my USB disc from text mode (In Fedora LiveCD I see it and i can access /media/New Volume). In F12 runlevel 3 in mc I see it in /dev/disc/by-label as @Newx20Volume. But I don't know what is the correct path.

Apr 3, 2010I downloaded a live disc and installed ubuntu. The following day it wouldn't boot up so I went to deleting the partition. I got ripped off $100 because they had no clue what to do so they wiped my drive and reinstalled just windows instead of just using a recovery disc and typing "fxmbr". My friend borrowed me his ubuntu disc and I purchased another drive so that each OS could have its own drive. Well now neither of our discs work. Mine is a downloaded one his is one he was sent from Ubuntu.I am downloading another iso right now.

Apr 22, 2011I had Ubuntu 10.10, upgraded to 11.04 beta, didn't like Unity and tried installing gnome 3 with directions online. Killed my ubuntu install. So I loaded Mint and thought maybe I would like that better. Decided to go back to Ubuntu, but keep having bootloader problems at the end of the install. I can still install Kubuntu or Mint whenever I want, but try to install Ubuntu 10.10 or 11.04 from disc and same bootloader problem.

Jun 14, 20102 weeks ago I installed 10.04 using the same ISO disc I am trying to use now. Other computer consisted of - ASUS P5GDC-V Deluxe mobo, P4 3.0 w/HT, 2 GB DDR400 OCZ platinum, radeon x300 PCIe graphics card and a sony dual layer dvd r/wr drive, WD 500GB SATA HDD.
Now using the same disc Im trying to install ubuntu 10.04 on this rig. ASUS A7N8X Deluxe mobo, Athlon XP 3200+, 2GB DDR 400 OCZ platinum, Radeon 9800XT AGP card, WD 500GB SATA HDD. ROM drive is set to first boot priority. It seems like it starts to boot, screen gets purple tinted background, and the small symbol/ guy show up at the bottom. Then the rom drive has some activity but the screen just goes blank and nothing ever happens.
I read somewhere that some older DVD rom drives can have trouble reading burned ISO images so I took the working ubuntu HDD out and put it in this computer but the same exact thing happened.
Ubuntu :: K8.04 K3b Broken - Can't Burn 10.04 Disc
Apr 29, 2010CD-R/W+DVD-R/W drive works fine for reading.
The last time I used it to burn was about a year ago. New discs are detected and I am offered to burn in K3b but K3b asks for media to be inserted (it already is).
Searched on some of these errors and this is a problem for others with indifferent solutions. Username is in cdrom group and /dev/scd0 is group cdrom rw. Latest updates and reboot changed nothing. Plus I am getting the k3b locale error even though I have LC_ALL="en_US.UTF-8" in my /etc/default/locale.
K3b runs after the warning but the Burn CD Image dialog always displays Burn Medium: Please insert an empty CD-R(W) medium... even though there is a CD-R in the drive.
So, I have a 10.04 ISO and no way to burn it.

Jun 18, 2010The cd starts up fine screen shows ubuntu logo and five dots then after it goes blank and screen goes to sleep. Also after install within windows i startup into ubuntu it then asks me which to boot into; windows 7, ubuntu, or ubuntu (debug mode or sumthing like the).

Jul 25, 2010I've had some problems with my ubuntu lately (>.<) and would like to use my Windows 7 disc to install windows side by side with ubuntu (for compatibility reasons). The problem is, my computer won't boot the disc on startup, won't read it at all, and thus I can't install it. How can I make Ubuntu read the Windows 7 disc? All other discs work fine.
Its not just my disc- I've used this disc on other computers no problem, and my Ubuntu reads other discs without any problems.

Jul 31, 2010I had ubuntu with grub2 on my external, with 2 partitions, sdc1 and sdc2 i had to install CentOS but the only 2 options when installing was "install on sda" or "don't install bootloader" and I chose don't install because I need my external to be bootable and now the grub from my external is broken, no file found.
My question is how do I install grub 2 on /dev/sdc and update it so I can boot it?

Sep 23, 2010I'm trying to boot a Windows 7 disc from my friends Acer desktop. I was planning on overwritting his copy of Windows Vista with 7 and then installing Ubuntu beside it, but it won't boot from the disc. It will however, boot from the Ubuntu LiveCD. It's not the disc, because I can boot from it on my computer just fine.

Oct 20, 2010I am using a bought 10.04 disc that I have used only twice with success on other computers to duel boot with Win7 on a new Toshiba laptop but it goes so far and then just hangs. It has gone as far as 93% and then stops so what can be wrong.

Feb 20, 2011I'm a complete novice who installed ubuntu 10.10 this morning, which seemed like it worked great until I noticed that I had to connect to the wireless network manually each time I re-started etc. I did some research into this and found that if you disable the network manager via the terminal section by replacing certain lines with 'deny' instead of accept or something. I did this however the nm was unable to connect anymore! I've been tearing my hair out searching the net, and this forum for a solution but to no avail. Ive since removed network manager while trying one (of many) ways I found online, so need to install it once more. I even tried to install the whole os again from the disc that I did so with initially, but it doesn't work either!Ill be more than happy to connect every time I turn on if it means I can access the net once more!

Apr 30, 2011So I backed up the files I wanted to keep before I upgraded. When I started the install I was prompted with the upgrade option so I chose that. We is seems the whole "upgrade is botched. Certain programs were not reinstalled. Ok that shouldn't be a problem. Well when I went to reinstall them I get pure failures in the programs. From Tor to Firestarter. I also found hidden files from 10.04 in my home folder of programs that didn't make it.
Ok instead of find what is wrong. I am just going to reinstall fresh. My only question is I want my firefox bookmarks. I believe I save them in the back up. I went into the Mozilla folder and copied them. Well I think I just want to be sure. Is the file bookmarkbackup? I know a stupid question but I have one shot at this and want to make sure.

Jul 5, 2011I have downloaded the Ubuntu 10.04 LTS iso from the Ubuntu website and created a Live USB disc with it.
I test this USB disc by booting from it on my desktop machine. It works fine. It even reinstalls Ubuntu on a test partition successfully.
I then attempt to use this Live USB disc to boot up my netbook. I receive the initial boot menu, and I can choose to either 'try with no changes' or 'install'. Either way, Ubuntu fails to boot, and hangs on the purple pre-desktop Ubuntu splash-screen for over half an hour with no change.
So I try re-creating the Live USB disc with both the Universal USB Installer and Unetbootin. The Live USB disc still fails to boot my netbook with exactly the same result. If I press the ESC key on the netbook whilst the screen has hung at this stage, I see the message code...
