Ubuntu :: GRUB Error 22 \ Install Via Wubi, But Had To Format Partitions (can't Do It On Wubi )?

I wanted to install ubuntu via wubi, but i had to format my partitions (can't do it on wubi ) so i used a crappy program(i don't remember the name) to get rid of Backtrack4 , because i wanted windows kept for my mom.So, that was the sorry, i've ended up with a GRUB error 22, and a Backtrack4 CD stuck in my DVD-rom.So my question is: Can somewone tell me how to fix error 22? (i've seen some methods online, but i obviously can't put a Windows CD in my DVD rom because the Backtrack4 DVD is stuck in there.
I have been using Wubi for a few weeks now and I am really impressed. I have endured a lot of problems with grub and kernel problems etc but now realise that its just the Wubi inside windows! I have it all set up with the cube to perfection and all drivers are running great after a bit of tweaking. So a bit of a lazy question really, can I install it properly onto my drive, and retain all the hard work I have put in setting it up? I have tried, but when it comes to selecting the drive that the Wubi is installed on it just says format with no backup option.
So, I converted a Vista user by enticing her with WUBI. She's a computer idiot, and she thinks Linux is great.
HOWEVER, she recently had Ubuntu muck up for her, so she uninstalled WUBI/Ubuntu and reinstalled it (9.10). Upon restart, GRUB presented no boot menu and went straight into Ubuntu. The funny thing is, under the GRUB configuration files, the timeout for the boot menu is set to 10. I tried the following (made sure to change the boot device to hda1,0 since fdisk shows her NTFS as /dev/sdb1):

No luck. No boot menu, no Windows option. I also tried the following:

Using THIS method, the boot loader did appear, but there was no Windows option. Odd. So, I'm at a blocking point. Yes, I was smart enough to run update-grub Thoughts? My replies may be a bit delayed - she's 2 hours away and I don't have direct access to her computer.
i have a Winxp and Ubuntu 10.10 system(wubi-install, update from 10.04 to 10.10).I have fixed the update problem 10.04 to 10.10 with the modified wubildr.Today there was a kernel update from 2.6.32 to 2.6.35 (???) and after the restart i can boot only xp.If i choose Ubuntu, there is a black screen and the computer restart. the ubuntudisksootgrub folder is empty!?!Here is my log:

I understand this is a common problem but i can't seem to find a solution for it other than use gparted to partition your hard drive and install directly to the hard drive.
I am trying to load 10.10 through the wubi installer. I want to install the 64 bit version of ubuntu. My windows OS is 64 bit as well.
I download the wubi online and when i run it i get through the first step of picking how large i want the hard drive and my sudo password. I click next and it goes to download the 10.10 x64 ISO. After about 10 sec a firewall alert comes up and i say allow then right after that the wubi crashes and i get an error log that i will post below saying i dont have permissions. Ive also tried using the right click "run as administrator" option on the wubi from windows 7.
Ive also tried downloading the ubuntu 10.10 x64 desktop iso. i extracted it using winrar then ran the wubi that comes with that and i get the same issue. I find it funny that when your run the wubi from the install disk it still downloads another copy of the iso instead of asking for its location on your hard drive.
I like the concept of the wubi and i had previously installed 10.04 through the wubi and loved it. I had an issue with 10.04 after doing a lot of tweaking and I simply wanted to just remove it and install 10.10 fresh. I'm strictly using ubuntu for experimental and learning purposes so i dont want to install it directly to my hard drive.
I installed Ubuntu using Wubi alongside Windows 7. There were some updates that screwed things up because I didn't lock some packages and Grub or something get deleted. Anyway that got screwed up so I went into Windows and ran Wubi again. It went fine, someone told me to lock certain packages, so updates what cause issues again.
The problem is when I turn on my computer I have the choices of Windows 7, Ubuntu, Ubuntu. The first Ubuntu that got screwed app still apears there and I believe is still using the 18 gigabytes I allowed.I really like Ubuntu and I would like to install it for real with a my Flash Drive.I understand the instructions but did not do it yet because I don't know how to remove all these previous installations. I will be getting a new computer soon, and I would like to transfer Wubi partitions from one computer with Windows to another. (The reason I want to transfer the partitions instead of just making a new installation is because I want to keep EVERYTHING intact and all the files/settings/applications/etc the same.)
I tried to install ubuntu 9.04 from wubi in windows 7 ultimate today. But it failed. I met a problem when installing: An error has occurred setting the element data. The request is not supported. The detailed information in installation log file is:

The request is not supported. I tried to use bcdedit /set <GUID> device partition=I: manually, but still have the same error.
Can I disable grub while using wubi, it's annoying going through two boot loaders, especially since grub started showing a lot more partitions that what exist for some odd reason.

I had a bad experience with 9.04 - I installed some recommended system updates, and the updated GRUB killed my installation (which is WUBI), not letting me boot.
I've now installed 10.04, and some updates have come through, one of which is GRUB. So I'm now looking at the "Configuring grub-pc" dialogue box that's popped up, and there's an option to "Continue without installing GRUB?".
What are the risks here? Is my 10.04 WUBI system going to die if I upgrade GRUB again? Or is it going to die if I don't upgrade GRUB?
I installed 9.10 with wubi and lately I had a boot problem with the result is that it boots to a grub prompt. I tried several commands, but no success. I thought I hosed the system. [URL]. Once I copied the new wublidr file over, that did it! Give it a shot, as it works.
I beleive I had version 9.x installed. I upgraded once and everything was fine. I went the upgrade manager again and it found some more upgrades. The upgrade messed with grub. It then told me there were no new upgrades. Then I rebooted and it says
Try (hd0,0): NTFS5
Then the screen clears and there is some text I can't read and then it says command not found. Then it reboots.
Is there a way to fix this? If not is there a way to recover the files from the disk image file.

Gives error message permission denied. I've seen this in your forums but I still haven't found the fix. I've tried the latest release Wubi downloader too. This one is ran from a CD. Version 10.04
My Wubi installation of Ubuntu (version 9.10, I think) that I recently installed was working fine at one point, but now it isn['t. I select Ubuntu instead of Windows from the Windows boot loader, but instead of getting the usual menu of different linux versions (I think 2, as I updated it at same point), and Windows, I get the GRUB command prompt instead.I've looked at th2e Wubi Guide (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WubiGuide), and I've followed the instructions for "How can I access my Wubi install and repair my install if it won't boot?", but that reveals no problems.For the record, I'm fairly new to linux and ubuntu, but I'm good with computers generally. Ideally I would like to get Ubuntu to load as it used to (with a menu). However, if there is a way to boot from the GRUB command line that would be good too. I'm not at all familiar with GRUB, and the commands I've tried (boot and linux, I think), get errors saying no kernel specified, or loaded, or something like that.

He spent around 9 hours on the project and its VERY IMPORTANT. I am a dumb ***, forgot the project was on the computer and updated to 10.10 via update manager without it backing up. Now I cant boot to XPP or Ubuntu - "error: no such device:", "grub rescue" My main concern is getting the data back. I would rather uninstall WUBI and install Ubuntu on the 2nd partition (wish I would have done this in the first place but 10.04 was my first Ubuntu install and I didn't know any better). I have to get this data back! I have tried the following and cant locate the referencer (.reflib) file or the .docs and .jpgs booted to USB using my 10.10 netbook remix USB install USB stick - I can see the windows files pulled the HD out and connected it to my Ubuntu netbook, an XPH and W7 computers -cant locate data
This Windows installer (Wubi) will help you to run Ubuntu within your current system.
What exactly is meant my this? Does this mean it is an easier way to install the dual boot with Windows? (I am using Windows-7 on a new PC.) Or does it mean it will install Ubuntu under Windows? I assumed it meant the latter.
In any case, I downloaded it - a mere 1024K, scanned it and ran it. I get a stubborn error box with the message:

And that box will not go away - no matter what I press, including the [X] button in the upper corner, the box reappears. I had to go into Process Explorer to kill pyrun.exe and its parent, pyl5E39.tmp.exe before the [Cancel] button would close it for good.
I could not find doc on this so I don't know what it really wants as a prerequisite to running wubi.
I have insatalled Kubuntu using wubi (in windows). But when I am running Kubuntu it is showing the following error. try(hd0,0) : FAT16 : NO WUBLDIR try(hd0,1) : NTFS35 : NO wubldir try(hd0,3) : NTFS35 : What should I do???
I have installed ubuntu 11.04 using wubi with Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit. The operating system works fine. Althoughwhen I boot and choose linux I get an error message during boot which stays forever. I have to shut down using power button and start again when it boots fine.
Another problem is when I restart from ubuntu it restarts back to the desktop but when I shut down, it does not shut down the computer. Stays on with blank screen forever. I am attaching the image of latest error I received on boot.
1. How can I install ubuntu 11.04 without using wubi?
2. in ubuntu 11.04 I found "main menu" that shows a lot of applications. Some ticked some not but, when I double click one a seemingly useless window opens.
What use is this menu for, how can it be used productively as it shows all available programs.
I have a Wubi 10.04 installation and I just did an upgrade and then I rebooted and then I got a message which just said 'error: file not found'. Then it doesn't do anything after that. I get no grub prompt or anything. I'm a newbie to Ubuntu so I'm not sure what to do.Is there a way I can repair the installation from windows maybe or what can I do because I can't even enter the command prompt.
I am having some problems uninstalling wubi. Its not in the uninstall programs or coming up and a boot option when i boot my computer anymore. So i went out and downloaded the newest version, and tried to install it. Cause i thought that it had been removed maybe by anti-virus or something. When i clicked on it to install it said i had a previous version that i had to uninstall. So i clicked OK. It started to uninstall and then i got an error message. I tried it again and got the some error message.
I decided it was time to reinstall Windows 7 because it became increasingly slow. I know that there's a different solution to solve this problem, but as a user I'm just more satisfied with the noob friendliness of Windows. However, I know that it has its drawbacks so I had a dual boot setup with Wubi (30GB). My old configuration was as follows:
C: partition of size ~80GB with Windows 7 x64 installed D: partition of size ~400GB with data and a wubi ubuntu at D:/ubuntu
So what I did was this:
- Backup all my personal files and D:/ubuntu on a external hdd - Wipe the partitions using the windows installer - Create a C: of 100GB and a D: of 380GB - install windows 7 x64 on the C: partition
Now I would like to restore my backup of the old D:/ubuntu to a working dual boot system. I realize I may have missed some opportunities and the data may be gone, but I only found out about that when it was too late. I have tried installing wubi, and replacing the new ubuntu folder with the old one, but this did not work.

I have also tried replacing only the root.disk file, with the same result. I searched for other people's solutions, but they did not seem to work in my case.
I have wubi and downloaded server tar in same directory, however, when I start wubi it downloads destop tar from web and than fails with permission denied.
Are there parameters to pass to wubi to direct it to source?
Wubi can't retrieve the netbook versions... any fix for this? I really don't want to use anything else but wubi. I used it on my desktop, and it was straightforward and I really prefer it (it's pretty much the only reason i'm putting linux on here lol)
