defult theme however the close, maximize and minimize buttons are on the left of the screen instead of the right. Is there a way to move thoes back to the right side of the screen?

I would like to use two monitors with my desktop, so connected them the other day and it worked straight away, which is good but... The monitor configuration app always want the primary monitor to be on the left hand side, thus it always extend my desktop right. Can I do anything to extend my desktop to the left instead of to the right so I can have background application on the screen to the left?

View 4 Replies View Relatedreally wish to customize my GDM for ubuntu 11.4 but failed to do so.....therefore i decided to use alt. such as SLiM.....I could install it properly in virtualbox but when i went to do it on my real ubuntu 11.4 ......the screen stops at plymouth theme or goes blank after loading plymouth theme......then i read further more blogs and made changes and now even if i configure SLim the GDM starts no matter what i do .........
PS : I am new to ubuntu and dont have any knowledge about scripting programming and stuff....
After succesfully installing Ubuntu 10.4 x32 and rebooting pc hangs on black screen with a flashing white dot in the top left corner of my screen, i've tried installing it twice with the same results.
my setup is: Asus p5q-e,
4 gig of corsair dual ram,
ati 4850 graphics,
onboard audio.
ahci mode
win 7 installed on intel ssd, and xp on a samsung 320 gb sata 2,
i had this configuration running fine for 2 months without boot loaders,
on pc start up i choose from which hdd to boot from.
i installed ubuntu on the samsung drive where it was recognised fine, wiped it all and installed automatically.
pls let me know if there is anything i missed, and advice if possible in what to do.

I have an Acer Aspire 5220 with and AMD processor and 1 GB of RAM. I had Windows vista and now have Dual Boot Vista / Kubuntu 9.10 clean install. Recently a blank white box appeared in the upper left corner of the screen. About 10-20 minutes after I log in it appears and disappears after 1-2 hours.

View 4 Replies View Relatedi just installed ubuntu studio and it seems to be working fine but i'm having an issue where the both the left and right side edges of my laptop monitor are unresponsive/unclickable for about two pixels all the way down. it's a minor issue that i could probably get used to, but it's particularly annoying when trying to use a scroll bar in firefox or any other window that when maximized would have it just against the right side of the screen. instead of simply swiping the cursor all the way to the right i have to stop just short of the edge in order to use the scroll bar/any other function.

I have installed following this guide [URL]... x_and_Mac_OS/X but I have an hp g71 349wm with intel chipsets, on ubuntu 10.10 I can't use nvidia, my system hates me if I try to install those drivers, that guide says I need either nvidia or ati drivers, I have not tried to get ati drivers going as when I tried to get nvidia going, my system totally crashed and ended up being totally unrecoverable for some reason, anyway my problem is that after installing pylotro and lotro and patching, I start it up and all I get is a big black square on the top left side of my screen.. no idea what to do to make this work. the only way to get rid of the square is to reboot.

I have here two old identical compaq pc's with 64mb ram.I want to copy drive/os from one machine to other. So i do a drive to drive clone (witn both hd's deing connected to another machine). And it says its done and okay. But the second (cloned) machine doesnt boot. And have the black screen with the blinking white cursor in top left corner. I have already tried to do fdisk /mbr and also copying partition table from original to destination disk. Because i think it is logical that with a drive to drive clone it sould be copied. But i have a doubt in that somehow. Because why would it not boot if it was copied then
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows XP Dell laptop that completely froze the other day. I cannot start it up, and cannot even access safe mode -- it just goes to black screen with underscore in the upper left corner.
So, I did some searching and saw a recommendation to create a Ubuntu Live CD to run and access the info on the hard drive, at least. I have most of it backed up, but not the drivers and I know that will be a pain to redo. So, I am mostly hoping at this point to recover a little info off the drive before reinstalling the OS. Of course, if I could just fix it, that would be better...
I get an error message when I try to access the hard drive through Ubuntu that says it is in hibernation mode and I need to start windows and shut it down properly before Ubuntu can mount the drive. Since I can't get into Windows, this is impossible. It also said something about being able to mount it read-only.
I have been using Ubuntu for a week and getting on well with it. After reading reviews I decided to try Kubuntu. I installed it from the terminal and all seemed to go well. Now when I start the computer and select ubuntu it goes to a log in screen. I type in my user name and password and all I get is a terminal screen in the top left. If I close this I go through a 'broken screen' and back to the sign in.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Windows XP, Vista and Ubuntu (10.04) all installed on my single hard drive. I re-installed XP and then ran the Vista CD to repair the Vista bootloader so that I could boot into XP and Vista. I can't figure out how to boot into Ubuntu now. I tried using EasyBCD (I believe an older version, maybe 1.72) to add Ubuntu to the Vista bootloader but I didn't have any luck. Ubuntu is in the menu, but when I select it, it goes to a screen that has GRUB in the upper left corner and does not load Ubuntu.

I have rebuild my system, with an Asus motherboard M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 with radeon 4250 integrated 8 Gb memory
Athlon II 4x 640 2 x 1 TB sata3 WD Harddisks I installed 10.10 64bit, and ran through the whole install with the alternate CD without problems, Installed grub in the MBR on the 120 Gb partition for 10.10, it even recognised my 2 3ware pci raidcontroler on which 8.04 is installed.
When I start I get grub, when I choose for 10.10 I get a black screen with a cursor blinking in the left uppercorner. Luckily I can start into 8.04. I have no idea how to continu. for now I will burn a knoppix cd so I can read the ext4 partition with 10.10 and hope to find something to solve this.
I recently installed Kubuntu 10.04 on a Toshiba Satellite 5205 laptop (which is prone to overheating, if it helps - it was on a platform in the back for airflow, though), which worked great for about 4 days.
Recently, I picked it up (looking for a USB port) and rotated it around a little bit. However, after this, the screen was darkened (not fully), and I could move the mouse for about half a second, after which it jumps back to the upper left corner of the screen. Rebooting doesn't help.
Is there a way to utilize the screen edges (Namely the left and right) in Fluxbox. I've looked around but I couldn't find a way. I mainly want to switch the workspace when the mouse encounters the screen edge.

Clearlooks. So, I tried upgrading to Maverick, thinking it would default the login screen to the new themes. No such luck.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have installed Macbuntu theme recently and it changed my ubuntu look to snow leopard including the global menu. I used Mac4lin earlier and was satisfied with that. But this macbuntu theme changes the entire look more like mac and it comes bundled with global menu.
See my current desktop environment:

Now, there's only one thing that Macbuntu is missing. That's the splash screen. By default, you see the ubuntu logo during bootup and shutdown. But mac4lin changes it to a gray background with an apple logo on it; which is awesome. But macbuntu doesn't come with this.
I've gone through mac4lin files. Inside its plymouth folder, there is a folder named "Mac-Bootup" which contains "mac-bootup.plymouth," "mac-booktup.script" and several images (dots, apple logo, etc).
Now the question is, how do I install this plymouth from terminal? I will have to install mac4lin first to get the splash screen, then uninstall it and reinstall the current macbuntu. Which is a long mess as you can see.
version 10.04.copy and pasted something into terminal and now the theme selection menu always pops up at the login screen, how do i get rid of that?

Is there a special Desktop theme suited for big screen ? In other words: Big icons, big text? Not sure if Unity helps out here. I would be willing to install another desktop manager (e.g. XFCE, KDE) than Gnome if it provides such features. Firefox for examples supports increased font size for browsing. For shell I've played around with guake and font sizes around 20 pix. It just would be nice to have "enlarged" menu entries.

I am running 10.10 Netbook Edition. I added Terminal Server Client to the Unity Menu and I typically run it in Full Screen mode to manage serveral windows based servers. The problem is that TSC displays perfect in full screen (unity tool bar hidden) but when i move the mouse over to the left side of the screen i get the pop-up text balloons from the unity below it. I cannot click on any items along the left edge of the remote desktop window including the windows start key. I want to confirm if this is a bug? and how to report it if so.

My display is offset slightly with some of the left-most and top-most area of the screen out of range with an equal amount of black/unused screen to the bottom and right. Is there a way for me to recalibrate my display to correct for this?

Description of Problem:There is another thread that discussed this same problem that I'm having: However that thread is so old that the suggestions in it no longer work in Ubuntu 10.04 and for whatever reason I can not make a reply to that thread.As in the above thread, I've tried other input devices and rebooting the computer and using other USB ports, and my mouse still intermittently double left clicks randomly at times when I've only clicked the left mouse button once and at times and places when it should only produce a single click such as when selecting a drop down menu.
Has any one else had this problem, and does any one have any idea how to fix it or to trouble shoot this a bit more? Please let me know if there is any other information I can provide to further clarify or troubleshoot this issue.
