Ubuntu Networking :: Running Cheese Over SSH To Get A View Of Flat?
Sep 23, 2010
I've tried running Cheese over SSH to get a view of my flat but it's very jumpy. My upload speed at home isn't the best in the world, and Cheese seems to struggle. Does anyone know of any software that will allow me to view the cam, specifying low quality settings etc to at least get a steady picture.I know it wont be amazing, but Cheese is crashing. I tried Camorama, but it didn't pick up my webcam.
I have had a LAMP setup on my computer for a while without any trouble but I have suddenly become unable to access it through either localhost or my IP address. I have tried removing and reinstalling the packages but it still doesn't work and the /var/log/apache2/error.log does not give me any errors.
When I open a terminal and start the 'top' command to view the running processes, in the summary view I get 4 users. I guess that in addition to my account the root runs in the background but who are the other 2??
how to get sound to my flat screen. Here is what i have graphics card (GeForce 8400 GS), ubuntu (9.10), tv (vizio va320e). currently hooked up dvi to hdmi
I see in this thread the poster wanted the "old ambiance" look.[URL].. Well, I don't mind the new Ambiance look, but my window manager tool bars have reverted to "Old Win 32". They have gone flat and gray. The window bars still look rounded and dark. After I first log in, the window manager looks fine, and then it flips Flat and Light Gray. I've logged in using the "Ubuntu Classic" setting. Someday I'll learn "Unity", but I'm trying to get some work done. I'm running this system in a virtualbox. Irrelevant, right?
setting up a headless torrent server for the flat. The webui works great on transmission except I want to schedule it to pause during daylight hours. Essentially I only want it to be downloading between the hours of 2am and 8am.
Currently I cannot get it to pause. Only throttle the speed. Setting the speeds to zero appears to set it to unlimited speed. And we don't really want it running 1 kb/s constantly (lowest possible setting) during the day.
Server is running 8.04 LTS using Transmission 1.83. Currently I have the Gnome desktop installed and using remote desktop viewer to set some things up via a gui. CLI is faster... if you know what you're doing, which I don't really, so I like to fiddle. I did think about using Crontabs to kill the process at 8am and start it at 2am, however this is pointless as we'd like to be able to setup torrents via the webui during the day.
my cmos battery is dead , not worrying that much about it but the problem is ubuntu , it has trouble booting thanks to fsck , there is a bug herebut i cant boot , i get the following error # Superblock last mount time is in the futureand i cant boot , i can get it working sometimes , with allot of work , but normaly it just fails !i came to the conclusion that the CMOS time and date keeps reseting and so ubuntu thinks that the last time i booted was in the future (if this makes any sense) and fsck freaks
I can't get the Ubuntu 10.4 Live CD for PPC to work on my old 800 MHz flat screen iMac G4. I believe it's supposed to work, but the installation dies with a magenta screen about a minute after selection of any boot option in the yaboot dialog.I tried all the sensible boot choices and options, all with the same result: some trundling of the CD reader, display of the messages related to the ramdisk, more trundling, then a blank magenta screen and no more trundling. The iMac becomes totally unresponsive: no more messages, can't enter any command shell. I get the impression (complicated story) that it begins to install the X server and then aborts.
This iMac has a PPC G4, 512 MB of working memory, and a GeForce2 MX video card with an nVIDIA chipset and 32 MB of video memory. There seems to be no hardware problem: OS-X 10.3 and OS-9 run just fine including wireless networking.
i have a viewsonic VA712b monitor that used to get 1280x1024 resolution on my dell optiplex gx260 that had the intel video card.i upgraded my motherboard cpu and memory..the nvidia 6100 that is onboard seems like it would be an improvement to my old onboard intel but the best resolution i can get is 1024x768
i installed the nvidia 185 drivers and it's not recognizing my monitor as a flat panel lcd but as a crt, also it won't set the correct refreshrate - either 60 or 75.. it's set at 50... since xorg 7.4 no longer uses a xorg.conf file.. i'm not sure how to go about manually adjusting the settings to ones that will actually work. i mean other than buying a separate graphics car (URL)
I'm trying to extract specific lines from a flat file. I need lines that fall within a range of coordinates. The -F can be either ! or = If the line is in this set range I need all of the data on that line. ranges lat 36 to 39 and longitude -74 to -84
I made a mistake and bought a $50 IBM A50 to use as a media server...Installed Karmic on it and figured out that the video card couldn't handle anything beyond the factory setting of 800:600, something like that...
I have not taken the time to learn about video cards and now I suffer....I found this "solution" EVGA 256-P1-N399-LX GeForce 6200 256MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Video Card
Which has mixed reviews on newegg
I want to use this machines( or another) to playback movies on my flat screen. I suppose I need to find out more about my TV as well...
I have been having problems with a lot of my emails being marked as spam or flat out being rejected. After doing some research, it looks like they are being denied due to my HELO and EHLO replies. Here is an example of my header file:
I have been working in macromedia dreamviewer for editing html and php files, Just now I moved to linux system by installing xampp , my question is that I need a best html and php editor that supports both the design view and code view as like in dreamviewer.
Hi. I have Ubuntu 10.04, nm-applet is running in the background, my battery icon and sound icon are showing but my network icon has been missing for the past 2 days. It was working fine before but now it's not. How can I fix this issue if I don't have an ethernet cord? Is there a way to roll back the recent updates or do I need to reinstall my network manager?
I've tried restarting the system and I've tried killing nm-applet and reloading it using Alt F2. I get some Debug error.
When I try to run nm-applet --sm-disable
It says an instance is already running and then gives me a warning.
I tried removing "iface eth0 inet dhcp" from /etc/network/interfaces and then tried restarting by "sudo /etc/initi.d/networking restart"
It says:
What can I do to connect to the internet? I have a flash stick if its possible to download a .deb package on this mac and transfer it over to my other laptop to fix the problem. If its possible.
Just wondering if there is a way to view all connected devices on my network?? Something similar to view network map in vista?? I know the places network but that only shows me my shares and I want to be able to see everything that is on there ie printers, routers, VOIP, other non-shared computers, etc...
I am new to using Ubuntu but I have installed ubuntu karmic koala on my laptop and am dual booting ubuntu and xp on my desktop. I am wondering how I go about setting up putty so I can view my desktop from my laptop because I travel quite frequently.
I use Ubuntu 9.10 on my laptop and Vista Premium on my two desktops. Until recently I was able to view and access my document files on my desktop from within Ubuntu. I can no longer do so.
I have several web servers, say myserver1, myserver2, and myserver3, behind a firewall that the higher-ups run. They recently changed the firewall to block all ports except for the ones they want open. I have www.myserver1.com viewable to the outside world, but www.myserver2.com is not viewable to the outside world. I was wondering if there is a way to set things up so that people could go to [URL] and view the [URL] and [URL] website content.
myserver1 is running Solaris 7, which will (hopefully) be upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04. myServer2 is running Ubuntu 8.04. myserver3 is running Windows XP. I was wonder if this is possible with any OS, not just mine.
I've got a machine on my lan that's currently shutdown. I want to bring it online with WOL but for the life of me can't remember the mac. I have used that machine in the past to ssh into a server and do a few other things. My router doesn't log macs anywhere but in dhcp but the machine is configured statically. Is there any way I can get the mac of the machine or just send a magic packet to everyone, there are only a handfull of machine on the lan.
Oh, if it's applicable, the server is Debian Lenny and the machine to be waken up is Mint 9
when i installed it, it was work but today after a gap of some days when i open the application the webcam light is on but no video/output is shown in the application when i take a picture it takes it 3-2-1 and then the take a photo button also get deactivated...so how to fix it
I can't find a way to use cheese in lucid. When I start it, it immediately starts flashing photos in countdown mode and repeats. I can't find a way to stop it except to use the hardware Fn-Esc to disable the webcam.
Because of the intermittent flashing and countdown 3-2-1 screens, I can't hit any buttons or menus.
