Programming :: Extract Specific Lines From A Flat File?

Mar 10, 2011

I'm trying to extract specific lines from a flat file. I need lines that fall within a range of coordinates. The -F can be either ! or = If the line is in this set range I need all of the data on that line. ranges lat 36 to 39 and longitude -74 to -84

awk -F '=' '{lat=substr($2,1,2); lon=substr($2,10,3); (lat >36 && lat <39) && (lon >-74 && lon <-84); print lat"--"lon}' < net.log

example line from the flat file
K4MQF-3>APN383,VA2-2,qAR,N3HF-5:!3818.65NS07800.17W#PHG77306/W3,VA3/Clarke Mnt

Programming :: Shell Script To Delete Part Text Of A Line If Pattern Matches?

Apr 12, 2010

I am trying to create a shell script, on taking a input file as parameter, which need to do 3 things

1) create a copy of existing file.

2) add a new line to the copied file.

3) strip off all the absolute paths inside the copied file

The first 2 points are straight forward. but i am finding it difficult to acheive the 3rd point. myself not very good with awk and sed. but gave it a shot in vain. For example, the input script consists of below,

PROGRAM=`/usr/bin/basename $0`
HOST=`/usr/bin/uname -n`
echo Start $PROGRAM `/usr/bin/date` |
/usr/bin/tee -a $LOG

The output of the script should look like,

PROGRAM=`basename $0`
HOST=`uname -n`
echo Start $PROGRAM `date` |
tee -a $LOG

Programming :: Script To Copy Paste Text From One File To Another (overwriting Part Of The File)?

Apr 19, 2011

I have a .txt-file with ~50.000 lines of numbers, generated by a mathematics program. From this file, I need line ~ 1.100 to line ~16.000 (these lines are always the same btw, this may make the solution easier, dunno) to be copy/pasted to another file, where the lines ~500 to ~15.000 (also, every time the same) should be overwritten by the aforementioned lines...I haven't found or come up with anything that works yet, mostly I find solutions to copy everything from one file to another but I can't find something to specifically overwrite a part of a file with part of another.

Red Hat / Fedora :: How To Extract .part Files

Jul 8, 2011

I'm trying to extract .part files. These are mac extensions similar to .rar or .zip. I need to extract a whole bunch of them simultaneously. Theyre probably registered in sequence just like .rar files. What program can I yum install or where should I look to extract these to what will probably be an ISO.

Programming :: Extract 2 Numbers From A Same File?

Dec 22, 2010

I am trying to extract 2 numbers from a same file and my goal is to print them both in another file, on the same line, separated with a space. I have to do that for 20 files and I would like to have therefore 20 lines like this in the output file. It would look like this :

Quote:

number1_file1 number2_file1
number1_file2 number2_file2
...
...
number_1_file20 number2_file20

So far, I did only extract one number and got an output file like this :

Quote:

number1_file1
number1_file2
...
...
number1_file20

And I did this by running a bash script with the following content :

Code:

#!/bin/bash
ls execution$1$2*.* | while read filename
do
cat $filename | grep -e "Total aborts:" | cut -d " " -f3 >> abort$1$2.dat
done

$1 and $2 are just strings to identify the different files I want to consider in this loop. This script works well to extract a number which is the 3rd field of a line starting with "Total aborts:".Now, how could I change this script to do what I mentioned above (i.e. extracting two numbers from two different lines) ? The second number is the 3rd field of a line starting with "Total throughput:"

Programming :: Script That Takes A Part Of A Log File And Emails It?

Mar 22, 2011

I work for a company that does remote computer support, we use VNC protocol to help our clients. I installed a VNC repeater that allows my clients to connect to me going through all firewalls and port forwarding. The linux VNC repeater outputs all connection information to /var/log/vnc.log and looks something like

Code:

UltraVnc Linux Repeater version 0.14
UltraVnc Tue Mar 22 03:37:02 2011 > routeConnections(): starting select() loop, terminate with ctrl+c
UltraVnc Tue Mar 22 03:37:12 2011 > acceptConnection(): connection accepted ok from ip: 55.555.555.55

[code].....

I need a script that reads this log file every so often (30 seconds to 5 minutes) and sends an email when an connection has been accepted. I looked into reading log files and got this so far

Code:

LOG=/var/adm/sqllog
while true
do
tail -100 $LOG | grep "ORA" > /dev/null

Programming :: Shell Script Searching File In A Directory?

Feb 23, 2011

I am trying to search particular directory which has files with extensions like .html,.mp3,.xml etc I have a list of such files What I am doing in my script is

for file_name in `find /home/ -name index.html -o -name song.mp3 -o -name help.xml`;
do
if [ $file!='' ]
then

[code]....

I have around 100+ files name with some particular extension , this code works fine if the directory name does not have any special character in it like " "(white character) .

It is failing to give the output. IF I run the find command on the console the I am getting the correct file name with location

/home/user1/public_html/mediawiki/config/movie.mp3
/home/user1/public_html/mediawiki/movie.mp3
/home/user1/public_html/mediawiki/pop.mp3
/home/user2/public_html/index test/pop.mp3
/home/user2/public_html/index test/web.xml
/home/user2/public_html/song.mp3

If I echo the file name from the script Then output is little missed match when a directory name has special char like " "

/home/user1/public_html/mediawiki/config/movie.mp3
/home/user1/public_html/mediawiki/movie.mp3
/home/user1/public_html/mediawiki/pop.mp3

[code]....

I am not sure what is wrong with script or my code .. Does shell have un-controlled behavior of manipulating the output of any command.

Programming :: Write A Shell Script Which Edits A Config File ?

Mar 1, 2011

Write some simple script?

Heres what Im trying to do:

-Qjackctl has a config file which is modified each time QjackCtl is shut down. This means that whatever preset is in use when QjackCtl closes is written into the QjackCtl config file as the DEFAULT PRESET, for the next time QjackCtl starts (or at least this is how I understand it).

-I want to edit a specific line in the QjackCtl.config file, which specifies the DEFAULT PRESET. Obviously its easy to do manually, but I want to do it using a shell script which runs automatically on StartUp so that QjackCtl starts every time with the same DEFAULT PRESET, NOT the last one used.

-Unfortunately Im not at my Linux system right now (which is KXStudio/Kubuntu), but I believe the QjackCtl.config line looks something like this: DEF_PRESET=alsa (where alsa is the name of the preset)

PRESET1=alsa
PRESET2=firewire

I want a shell script which changes the line DEF_PRESET=alsa to DEF_PRESET=alsa, even when it may currently exist as DEF_PRESET=firewire due to occasions when firewire was the active preset when Qjackctl was last closed. I notice that the application in KDE that enables the user to set which applications open automatically on StartUp also allows the user to select shell scripts.

Ive done some research, as a beginner, and Im led to believe I might need to use AWK and/or CHMOD. I could have a go at writing a shell script but Im always wary about experimenting with StartUp scripts/operations because obviously if I get it wrong and make my system unusable, then because its going to run first thing on each boot, Id have great difficulty disabling it.
