Fedora :: Cannot Create The Hamachi Network Interface

May 9, 2010

I simply cannot get this to work, has anybody managed it?

My problem is related to tuncfg I believe. I make the modification to the source of tuncfg to change ifconfig to /sbin/ifconfig. If I run hamachi start debug I get the following output:

It appears it cannot create the hamachi network interface because it doesn't appear under ifconfig.

Code:

I've tried to install Hamachi on my Ubuntu 10.04 but it was unsuccessful. I followed the steps below based on a tutorial i found on the web: 1. Made the fake module "tun", necessary for running VPN apps, which in Ubuntu 10.04 is already compiled in the kernel.Reading several forums on the web they say it was a "work around" for getting VPN apps to work...

A - mkdir faketun
B - cd faketun

Ubuntu Networking :: Running Hamachi In VirtualBox?

Nov 2, 2010

run a Hamachi client in a Windows virtualbox and be able to set it up (using network bridging, maybe?) like Hamachi was running in the host itself.

I'm most definitely not a networking expert, but I thought it would be worth a try to see if anyone had any ideas. Hamachi for linux is outdated and unstable.

Also, if this isn't possible and anyone has another cross-platform zero-config VPN solution as stable as Hamachi

Ubuntu Networking :: Setting Up SSH Server (Hamachi Based VPN)

Jan 8, 2011

I recently started to set up a SSH server, I was able to set up a Hamachi based VPN and was able to connect to it on all levels, for about 5 min, after that the server goes into idle mode and is no longer able to connect to that computer via LAN or Hamachi. Not till after I shake the mouse can I connect back in via LAN, and I have to log out and back in of Hamachi to get that to work. Is there a way to stop the Internet shutdown on that computer when it goes into idle mode? SSH servers are more or less useless if it doesn't let me tunnel in when I need to. This is for Ubuntu Server.

Ubuntu Security :: How To Get CSF Working With Hamachi

Apr 29, 2010

I'm having trouble getting CSF working with Hamachi. I know Hamachi uses ham0 but has to use eth0 to establish a connection to the VPN servers. When I turn on CSF, hamachi seems to die but I opened the ports in CSF (443,12975,32976,17771)... I keep getting login fail when start Hamachi up. I'm guessing this has to deal with CSF/iptables but no clue on how to setup those rules to work with Hamachi.

However, whenever I attempt to access my server through FTP from my desktop, it does not work. The file in question will load VERY SLOWLY to about 8% then the connection will drop out.My desktop and server are connected to the same router, and I feel as though this may be the issue.or vsftpd in a special way to access it through LAN?What I am trying to do specifically is use Comicpress (a Wordpress plugin) to upload comics to my server, with no luck.

Networking :: Multiple PXE Servers Same Network?

Jul 28, 2010

In my environment we are running DHCP on a Windows 2003 r2 server. This DHCP server also is used with Symantec's 3COM PXE for the desktops. So the desktop's can PXE boot into Symantec Ghost and re-image the PC's with a Ghost (GHO) file. This DHCP server is responsible for assigning IP addresses for all desktops on the network.

We also have several branch offices which this DHCP server provides IP addresses to. These branch offices are on a separate network so I believe this is possible. Each branch office is running a Linux server so I would like to use Clonezilla and allow users in these offices to PXE boot to the local Linux server to run Clonezilla and re-image their notebook/desktops with a specified image that is on the local Linux server in each office. My only concern is the use of the same DHCP server. Is this possible?

Another project I am working on is setting up LTSP with openSUSE in which I want to have about 10 or 15 diskless PCs boot up and retrieve the LTSP image but this would also use the same DHCP server and is on the same network as the regular desktops that use the Symantec 3COM PXE service so is this even possible? If not, any recommendation on how I could get it to work? Could proxyDHCP work or MAC filtering or even a seperate VLAN?

Ubuntu Networking :: Making Adjustments To Network And Servers - Need Router?

Jan 7, 2011

I currently have an Airport Extreme connected directly to my cable modem but have been wondering if I should actually connect direct to my proxy server first. The reason I am asking is because I run multiple web servers for web hosting and I have a proxy server setup that directs traffic to the appropriate computer based on domain names.

I have my router connected to my cable modem, and then all of my computers are connected thru the router. To me it would make more sense to have my proxy server be the first to connect and then thru a second ethernet card connect to the router. I also have a 5 port switch on order as well. So basically I'm asking for opinions now, in preparation for making some adjustments to my network and servers.

Software :: Hamachi Connection Slowly Deteriorates And Ultimately Fails?

Jun 3, 2010

I'm relatively new to Linux, but I'm learning fast. Right now my Linux box is serving as a file server for my network, and as a test bed for learning various tools and actions with Linux. Anyway, I loaded up the latest version of Hamachi, following a tut I found to the intertubes. I got logged on fine to my Hamachi server, and for a few moments the connection looked fine. Eventually the connection started going back and forth between "ok" and "stale", before "failing" and then ultimately leaving me with a blinking green light in Hamachi (note: I'm watching this on my Windows XP machine, also note: not really sure what the blinking green light means but I can tell you that I'm no longer connected)

After many google searches, I've found a lot of pages associating problems with Hamachi to tuncfg. I've also noticed that along with the hamachi tarball on the ftp, the folks at LogMeIn have also provided a file called "tuncfg.patch". So I can only assume that the problem has something to do with tuncfg.Just wondering how I can troubleshoot this problem. I'm running Ubuntu 5.10, and the Hamachi version is 0.9.9.9-20

OpenSUSE Network :: Not Able To Connect To Update Servers And Some Servers On The Web

Dec 16, 2010

Problem with my Internet connection. I can't connect to the update servers. I don't know why. It's a brand new installation, not a week old yet. I can't install the support for restricted media for example. The servers won't refresh in YaST. It tells me it can't download the repomd.xml.asc.

The other problem is that some servers on the web won't load for me either.

For example, I get most of my local news from The Toronto Star, and I can't connect to it's website at all.

I can from Windows (I dual boot) but not SUSE. I don't think its a problem limited to that one website either. I am able to connect to most websites though.

This is the result of zypper repos -d

Ubuntu Networking :: Network Manager Will Not Auto-connect To New Network After Resume?

Jul 1, 2010

I recently fixed an annoying problem and I thought it would be nice to share my solution here. The problem was that after a cycle of suspend/resume, Network Manager would only auto-connect to the same network as it was previously connected to. So, for example, if I suspended my laptop at home, and then I went to school and resumed it, it would try to connect to the home network, and then just give up. It would not connect to the school network unless I explicitly told it to.irst, I'll describe the fix. If you're having this problem, you can this. Copy the following:

Code:

Ubuntu Networking :: If Plug Into An Ethernet Network After Boot The Network Never Connects

Oct 5, 2010

I have a system running a very basic LTS install (10.04). Ubuntu has been setup with very little additional packages. No GUI. Once it's booted to a prompt for the first time I add the following packages,

cups cupsys ssh pi memtester nfs-common
aptitude safe-upgrade

At this time I don't have additional information on exactly what packages are installed. I did not perform the installs myself. I will update this thread when I get more details from my IT counterpart on how the system was setup.

This is used for a headless(no monitor, no keyboard) system running some custom applications.

Here are two problems.

1. If I plug into an ethernet network after I boot, the network never connects. I need to reboot with the network connected in order to get an IP. What is the service to "auto connect" to a network?

2. I have a network printer configured on lpd called myprinter. If I am connected to the network when I boot, I can print to this printer just fine using:

Code:

However, If I boot disconnected from the network and print to myprinter, the jobs obviously cannot print. They get spooled. Using 'lpstat -t' I can see that the spooled print jobs are assigned a job number and that myprinter is trying to connect. I shutdown, reconnect my ethernet network and boot up. All my printer configuration is blown away.

/etc/cups/printers.conf has been wiped out to look like this:

Code:

My 'good' printer configuration is copied to printers.conf.O

To recover from this, I need to stop cups, copy printers.conf.O to printers.conf, restart cups, and re-setup my network printer.

So, What causes my printers to get wiped out? I've repeated this on 4 systems with the same setup.

Ubuntu Networking :: Network Manager Stopped Recognizing Wireless Network

Jan 24, 2011

I am a Windows refugee who discovered Ubuntu as a way to save my files from my virus-ravaged computer. Had no installation discs for Windows, so when I had to wipe my hard drive and start over, I decided to give Ubuntu a try. I've had mixed success, but that's another post...

Right now, the problem is that I installed 10.10 two weeks ago and was able to connect to the Internet with no problems - until yesterday. Suddenly, our wireless network (the only one in the vicinity) does not come up as available in Network Manager. In fact, the entire wireless option disappeared. I know there are many posts and threads on here about this, but weeding through them trying to find an answer is more frustrating than actually dealing with the problem. I know the router works because I can post on this forum from the Macbook. I really like Ubuntu and would like to keep using it, but not being able to connect to the Internet now on top of the other issues I've had is making me doubt I want to continue down this Linux road.

P.S. When I attempted an analysis through System Testing, it said something about there being no proprietary drivers?
