Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Card - WEP Encryption For Wireless Router Not Allow Me To Connect

May 5, 2011

wlan0 Authentication capabilities :

WPA
WPA2
CIPHER-TKIP
CIPHER-CCMP

Those are my authentication capabilities, obviously. I am using a WEP encryption for my wireless router and according to this, it will not allow me to connect. Is there anyway to allow that? The wireless card works just fine in Windows, even on the same network encryption type. Using a Intel Wireless/Pro 4965 ag. Note* this is my mother's router and whatnot. She won't change it the encryption type.

Security :: Acceptable Kerberos Encryption - Error "ktutil: AES256/SHA1*: Encryption Type AES256/SHA1* Not Supported"

Dec 23, 2010

I am building an active directory and using BIND9 as my DNS. To allow for secure dynamic updates from the domain, I am enabling GSS-TSIG as detailed here and here. Unfortunately, some of the commands and configurations used here seem to be depreciated, at least in the newer versions that I'm using. My issue is one of keytab encryption. I generated a keytab using ktpass.exe on the Windows Server 2008 domain controller. I have tried DES/MD5, AES128/SHA1 and AES256/SHA1, each have been turned down by ktutil on the kerberos server (FreeBSD). Each time, it outputs the following error: ktutil: AES256/SHA1*: encryption type AES256/SHA1* not supported *Respective to encryption used.

I cannot find a list of suitable encryption schemes that ktutil will accept. The FreeBSD handbook details a means of producing a keytab file, but I'm not sure how to configure the Domain Controller to use the keytab.

Ubuntu Networking :: Enable WPA Encryption On My Wireless Connection?

Jan 10, 2010

enable WPA encryption on my wireless connection? Wireless networks are detected and listed, so the wireless card is functional in the most basic sense, however, when going to connect to any particular network,I am not given the option of entering a WPA passphrase, only WEP, and as my router is set to use WPA, this is a problem.I am trying to get this going on a fresh Karmic install on a Toshiba A15-S157 notebook. Thus far, I have found this: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...ux/+bug/315489 which would seem to relate to my problem.I looked in my logs and saw this entry: Jan 10 16:06:35 cody-laptop firmware.sh[863]: Cannot find firmware file 'agere_sta_fw.bin', and have since found that file, and have downloaded it to my desktop. It seems like this may be the solution, but how to exact it, therein lies my (momentary) problem.

Slackware :: Setup Wireless Network With WPA2 Encryption?

Jul 7, 2010

I followed [URL]..to set up my wireless network with WPA2 encryption. It works now and knemo says:Encryption: active. However, "iwconfig wlan0" says Encrytion key: off:

Code:
wlan0 IEEE 802.11abgn ESSID:"blitz"
Mode:Managed Frequency:2.472 GHz Access Point: 00:25:9C:DE:D3:7D
Bit Rate=0 kb/s Tx-Power=15 dBm
Retry long limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Encryption key:off

[Code]...

So is there anything wrong with that "Encryption key: off" statement? I suspect that encryption key only applies to WEP, but not to WPA2 encryption, but I am not sure. So my question is, can I ignore that statement and assume that my encryption is fine?

Besides, where does knemo read the information about encryption from? As I mentioned, knemo detects that the encryption is active. Are there any other commands to make sure that my encryption is safe and well?

Ubuntu Servers :: Differentiate Between Connections From Windows And Computers

May 21, 2010

I have a question about connections with an ubuntu server. Is there a way to know if the terminal computer (which is connected to my linux server) is using WinSCP to connect (on a Windows platform) or a linux system? It seems they are using the same port (22) and I think the exact same protocol (SSH / SFTP), is there a way to differentiate between the two though? And going farther there, is it possible to limit the connections only to linux terminal computers and reject requests coming from Windows computers?

Ubuntu Networking :: WPA Encryption Fail?

Apr 3, 2010

I'm on an Acer Aspire One.Clean install of 9.10.I was using 9.10 and my wireless was working fine. Then for no reason it would not connect. So I decided to reboot my router and reinstall ubuntu.Still does not work.I have figured out that it seems to be WPA encryption that is at fault. When I turn it off on my Linksys the netbook connects fine, turn it back on and nada.

if i try to use a static address then the laptop seems to connect but I cannot ping the router or get to the internet. If anyone has any ideas I would be grateful, I would rather use WPA than WEP.My iphone connects and this netbook connects with Windows, so I know the linksys is not at fault.

Ubuntu Networking :: 9.10 Beta - WEP Encryption Key For Internet Connection

Feb 17, 2010

A while back I posted [URL] a question about Ubuntu 9.10 not recognizing my WEP encryption key. The problem that I had is still essentially the same: After upgrading to 9.10 beta, then trying to upgrade using the alternate install disc for the full version (because of the same problem) I ended up having to do a completely new installation. Anyhow the problem still stands: my internet card works and it detects available wireless networks, the only thing is that after entering the key in, it will attempt to connect, then after a min or so, it will ask for the key again, ad infinitum. The upshot is that I can't connect to the internet at all. Right now I'm on Windows 7 RC.

The only thing that has changed is that I tried disabling encryption entirely, and Ubuntu was still not able to connect (I think the connection just timed out after a few minutes). I should add that I have Verizon FiOS, an Actiontec router, and my computer (since it is far away from the router) connects through a Hawking_300N extender. Right now I am using Windows 7 RC (which unfortunately expires in a little over a week), so I can access the internet through Windows, and check for any posts, but I can't immediately provide any command outputs, I'd have to restart, and that would take a few minutes. Further, I have tried both Network Manager and WICD, both of which produced the same results. I have not tried any WPA encryption mainly because the router is shared, and I don't to mess with everyone using the router unnecessarily.

Ubuntu Networking :: Router Encryption Settings 10.04 - Can't Authenticate

Nov 27, 2010

Using a D-Link wireless router, trying to get it through the authentication process with the client through a D-Link DWA-125 USB wireless. When I set encryption to "none" on both ends, the router links up OK, but when I enter matching encryption settings on the router, and then in the driver data file (RT2870STA.dat) on the client side, I can't get it to authenticate. I've tried all possible combinations in the .dat file with no luck. I'm fairly well convinced that there is a bug in the .dat file settings, and that the wireless port setting need to be forced at startup through the /etc/networking/interfces file, or some such procedure, to override the settings in the .dat file.

Ubuntu :: Changing File System Type To Another Filesystem Type - Does It Effect On Data?

Feb 4, 2011

In my system around 73gb(pc-desktop) i have,1 primary partition(windows)-25gb, 1-extended partition(remaining gb) 3 logical partitions were there in (under) extended partition in one of the logical partition is d:drive. in my hard disk d: drive is -/dev/sda5

previosly i was fat -file system , (d:drive-/dev/sda5), i remember i changed the d: drive(d:drive-/dev/sda5) file system to ext4file system ,with following command using terminal

After doing(changing the file system)this one ,i couldnt see the d:drive data

By doing that

1q) Did i reformatted the partition? i think the new filesystem(ext4) has no knowledge of the data that was on it when it had a FAT filesystem.

2q) How to do undo operation,i tried to change the filesystem type to fat/ntfs in terminal using command --sudo mkfs -t FAT /dev/sda5.

Result:its showing text message-'mkfs.FAT: No such file or directory'(not in single quote)

I had very imp data in d:drive
