Ubuntu Networking :: WiFi With Wpa2 Encryption Doesn't Connect On Startup

I have xbmc, a media center shell that runs on ubuntu. I am trying to set up a laptop to run it and be a full time media center. so far it works great, I installed xbmc live, but the only issue is I have a wep2 protected wireless router and the wifi does not connect automatically.
I have it set up and am using wpa_supplicant once those commands are run the wifi works great.I am a novice in linux in general, and can not seem to get this to work on startup, can anyone point me in the right direction on this? I haven't been able to find the xbmc start up script if one exists, I figured adding those lines to it might work,does this sound like a reasonable approach? if anyone knows where that is and how it is defined to be launched on start-up i would appreciate it(I guess this is getting into the general Linux knowledge but still good info)
Im trying to connect to my wireless network via terminal. My wifi network has a WPA2 encription. Im running ubuntu server 10.04. wifi interfaces are active, i can "see" my network with airodump. The only thing is i dont really know how to configure my iwconfig to connect to it.
I've just upgraded my old laptop from xubuntu to ubuntu 10.10 and I have some connectivity problems with my usb adapter Netgear WG111v3. On xubuntu I had no problems with connecting on the network but with ubuntu, it says I have good reception but it doesn't connect on the network (rarely it does, but for a very short time). I have another laptop currently running on ubuntu 10.04 and it has no problems at all (however it has an internal usb card).
I have a Broadcom 4312 wireless chip. I have use the STA drivers that Ubuntu recommends. I can connect quite easily just by clicking on the icon, so this is more than a niggle than a problem.
My network isn't protected as we live in the middle of nowhere (quite literally) and network theft isn't a problem. We also run a self-catering cottage, and let guests have free access to our network anyway, so it is easier for guests to access our network without me having to give them all the key. When I did use wpa, it would start itself up with the laptop, so I kind of know that this might be the cause. Is there any way I can fix it without encrypting the network?
I have an HP DV6 3143se which has a Ralink 3090 wifi card in it.the only thing that doesn't work at the moment is the Wifi. I tried installing the Linux backports module, but the trouble is that sometimes, my home wifi network is shown on the list of available networks and most often, it's not. when the network does show up, and i click on it and enter my WPA2 password, it takes ages to handshake and then it tells me that my password is wrong. the same password works in windows 7 so something's not working.
when i try to disable and re enable wireless network on the network manager applet, i get a Wireless device not ready or Network manager not running message.
I am using an eeePC with Xubuntu Lucid and I just configured a wireless network to run with WPA & WPA2 (wireless access point NetGear WG103). It tries to connect and then comes back with a request for reentering the passphrase. I have had this once before in a pub. The way I read this the driver is getting confused how to authenticate.
I am running Ubuntu 10.04 on a PackardBell notebook and have just got an Orange Livebox 2 for broadband connection(after years of dial-up as no adsl in my area).I am trying to connect via WiFi to the Livebox to configure, but neither NetworkManager nor Wicd will connect. NM sees the Livebox but simply fails to connect after trying; Wicd says "Bad password".The WPA2 password I have entered is definitely correct, and I have connected without any problem from an AcerOne under Linpus.I have also tried to connect using Wicd and an ethernet cable, and this doesn't connect either, returning "Connection Failed: Unable to Get IP Address"
The auto connect feature of NetworkManager Applet (version 0.7.997) isn't working on my system. If the WiFi connection dies, Network Manager doesn't detect that the connection has been lost and try to reestablish the connection. I have to manually click on the WiFi hotspot to reestablish the connection. This appears to be the case both while the computer is running and when I first boot it up (i.e. when booting, if the first attempt at establishing a WiFi connection doesn't succeed, Network Manager doesn't retry or try another hotspot).Is this "normal" behavior for Network Manager? If not, does anyone know a fix? Here's some more info about my system:
I have had my network setup and working with WEP for a long time. Also Windows 7 is working fine from the same laptop. I can't figure out why the essid is scrambled. Here is the output of iwconfig:

So is there anything wrong with that "Encryption key: off" statement? I suspect that encryption key only applies to WEP, but not to WPA2 encryption, but I am not sure. So my question is, can I ignore that statement and assume that my encryption is fine?
Besides, where does knemo read the information about encryption from? As I mentioned, knemo detects that the encryption is active. Are there any other commands to make sure that my encryption is safe and well?
My college runs a WPA2 LEAP secured wireless network, and I am having problems connecting to it under Ubuntu. I can connect to it just fine under Windows, just not under Ubuntu. Under Ubuntu I can connect to other networks such as my home WEP secured wireless network, so it shouldn't be a hardware or driver issue.
When I do connect to the WPA2 LEAP network it recognizes the network and tries to connect, it pops up the login box for me to enter my username and password, but after I click connect it pops back up again about 10 seconds later. It pops up like this about 3 times total, then after the third time it stops trying to connect and the Wireless Network Disconnected message is shown.
Unsecured and WEP networks are fine. I do not have a WPA network to test on, but my school's WPA2 Eduroam network does not work. It tries to connect before asking again for my credentials, and this repeats. I'm on 64-bit 10.10 Ubuntu upgraded from a live CD install of 10.04. Laptop model is Acer Aspire 5741-5193. I just installed Ubuntu 10.04, everything is fine, but the wireless. When I try to connect to my WPA2 protected network, it is grayed out. SO I click Connect to Hidden Wireless Network, and this window pops up. I put in my network name, the security type, and password. It acts like it is connecting, the wireless icon is going up and down. But then another window pops up, saying Authentication required by wireless network and the down arrow is grayed out. O currently have 2 USB WiFi adaptors: a Linksys WUSB54G v4 and a D-Link DWA-110. Both these USB adaptors worked extremely well in Windows: they could connect to any network: unsecured, WEP and WPA1/2I have tested these adaptors in DreamLinux, OpenSUSE and Mandriva: in these 3 distributions, i could use both adaptors to connect to my home's WPA2 network.Both adaptors also work well in Fedora 10.In Fedora 11 Alpha though, its a different thing: only the D-Link is able to connect to the home WPA2 network. My Linksys WUSB54Gv4 can 'see' the network, but when i enter in the WPA2 key, it takes forever to try to negotiate a connection before timing out and disconnecting.
I have a problem with my RT2860 in my Eee PC 901 running F13. It connected fine in F12 when I installed the akmod-rt2860 driver. I enter my WPA key, then it tries to connect, but the WPA key screen appears again saying that I may have typed in my WPA key incorrectly. However, I checked and it is the right WPA key.
I want to share my internet connexion via ad-hoc WiFi. If it's unsecured, it works fine, but when I use WPA encryption, it doesn't work anymore! I can connect from my iPod touch, but no internet. After installing Lucid, I noticed that my Ralink RT2860 card would not connect to my home network using WPA2 despite the network being visible and of good strength. So I followed the guide at [url] in order to install the newest Ralink drivers.
After installation, same issue. That is, the card will connect to my a/b/g/n network if I leave it unprotected, but it will not connect to the same network if switch it to WPA2. After being given the passphrase, the wireless icon on the indicator applet shows that it is trying to connect, but after awhile it fails. Does anyone know why the built-in driver and also the official Ralink driver are no good for WPA2 in Ubuntu 10.4 for my RT2860 card?
I updated to the latest version of Ubuntu and before I could connect to the network "krafft" that is a WPA2-Personal protected network.If I go into Windows and change security to none I can connect with Ubuntu, but not when it's protected.After a bit of time logged in without network a dialogue pops up and looks almost like this :but "Focus" is replaced with "krafft" and the password is something else.I know that the password is right and the network worked perfectly before update.I got an USB wireless network receiver from D-Link and the chipste is ralink rt2870.In the previous Ubuntu distribution you had to write "blacklist rt2800usb" in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf but it won't work with or without that blacklist.When I updated I saw some message about the network manager(at least I think so) so maybe the problem is in that.
I have only had a few weeks worth of experience with linux, so I'm probably considered a newbie at this but I felt like giving it a shot. I just configured my new Toshiba Satellite A505-S6969 to jaunty. Most of the transition is going well but I'm stuck with a few issues, one of which is getting my wifi to work. I can connect to the internet through wifi, but I cannot connect to anything on my network. I have a printer and a NAS, so I would really like for this to work again. I have a dell laptop with a Broadcom card.
I'm using Debian 8 with GNOME 32bit. I installed a driver with ndiswrapper for my old D-Link DWL-G650M.
If i using the default network manager to connect with a Free wifi the connection works fine. But if the wifi have the password the connection doesn't work.

Those are my authentication capabilities, obviously. I am using a WEP encryption for my wireless router and according to this, it will not allow me to connect. Is there anyway to allow that? The wireless card works just fine in Windows, even on the same network encryption type. Using a Intel Wireless/Pro 4965 ag. Note* this is my mother's router and whatnot. She won't change it the encryption type.

I have a laptop (running Arch Linux) and a desktop. Until recently my desktop computer ran Arch but I'm taking Debian for a spin now. At my home there is a wireless network with WPA2 encoding. I use the wicd gui to connect to this. I assume, that since I can see the SSID in the wicd window, all drivers are correctly installed and functioning. On my Arch computer, wicd reports this SSID as having WPA2 encoding, but on the Debian computer, it shows up as WEP. Even when I choose the correct encryption thing, WPA2 (preshared key), and put the correct password in, I can't get a connection up.
I recently installed KDE and just found that it cannot connect to my school wireless which uses WPA2. It keep asking Secretes for , even after I input everything correctly. It works fine with not secured wireless.In Gnome there was no problem with connecting to this wireless service.
Having played around with ubuntu a fair bit I decided to breathe life into an old thinkpad with a pcmcia wireless card, by following the minimal install instructions and using lxde window manager etc.. Everything works fine apart from the fact that I cannot connect wirelessly. The card picks up and lists connections but whenever I have clicked on a connection the dail spins and then it gives up.I installed network-manager and managed to get nm-applet appearing in the sysTray otherwise I would not even have known there was wireless connections there.
I was thinking there maybe some conflict with another network manager, does this sound likely?
