Apr 5, 2009I recently downloaded and installed CentOS 5.3 DVD media.The media check passed. I proceed to install the operating system sucessfully. After installation, all my hardware is recognized, when compared to CentOS 5.2. Anyway, when I attempt to connect to my wireless network that uses either WEP/WPA/WPA2-- I get an error message that I cannot recall (it basically only came up when I entered the key) However, I can connect to my wireless network when it is unencrypted and no open/shared key is needed.I would like to be able to connect to my wireless network when

CentOS 5 :: Shadow Passwords - Changing Encryption Method From MD5 To SHA?
Nov 4, 2009I'm looking to find out exactly how to go about changing the encryption method of shadow passwords from MD5 to something a bit stronger, like SHA. I've been looking around for a bit now and haven't found out how to do it. I've gathered that I'll most likely need to change the /etc/pam.d/system-auth file. Right now, there is a line that looks like this:
password sufficient pam_unix.so md5 shadow nullok try_first_pass use_authtok.I'm guessing the md5 should be changed to something else, like sha256. What else? I know I'll need to reset all passwords once the change is made, but I thought there was someplace else that controls how the passwd command encrypts passwords.

May 31, 2011My laptop able to detect wireless. I try to access it with a correct password. However, it keep prompts me the password is wrong. But I was able to connect the wireless using other PC with the same password. I am pretty sure the something wrong with the WEP encryption of the F15.

Apr 3, 2010I'm on an Acer Aspire One.Clean install of 9.10.I was using 9.10 and my wireless was working fine.Then for no reason it would not connect.So I decided to reboot my router and reinstall ubuntu.Still does not work.I have figured out that it seems to be WPA encryption that is at fault.When I turn it off on my Linksys the netbook connects fine, turn it back on and nada.
if i try to use a static address then the laptop seems to connect but I cannot ping the router or get to the internet.If anyone has any ideas I would be grateful, I would rather use WPA than WEP.My iphone connects and this netbook connects with Windows, so I know the linksys is not at fault.

Dec 16, 2009There is a strange thing going out there in my box, I've tested b43-fwcutter on wpa-psk encrypted network, and there was no problem connecting (my card is broadcom 4318), recently I was trying to connect to WEP encrypted network without success. Network connection tested on other laptops (Vista, XP machines)so there is no possibility that the key isn't valid.

Feb 17, 2010A while back I posted [URL] a question about Ubuntu 9.10 not recognizing my WEP encryption key. The problem that I had is still essentially the same: After upgrading to 9.10 beta, then trying to upgrade using the alternate install disc for the full version (because of the same problem) I ended up having to do a completely new installation. Anyhow the problem still stands: my internet card works and it detects available wireless networks, the only thing is that after entering the key in, it will attempt to connect, then after a min or so, it will ask for the key again, ad infinitum. The upshot is that I can't connect to the internet at all. Right now I'm on Windows 7 RC.
The only thing that has changed is that I tried disabling encryption entirely, and Ubuntu was still not able to connect (I think the connection just timed out after a few minutes). I should add that I have Verizon FiOS, an Actiontec router, and my computer (since it is far away from the router) connects through a Hawking_300N extender. Right now I am using Windows 7 RC (which unfortunately expires in a little over a week), so I can access the internet through Windows, and check for any posts, but I can't immediately provide any command outputs, I'd have to restart, and that would take a few minutes. Further, I have tried both Network Manager and WICD, both of which produced the same results. I have not tried any WPA encryption mainly because the router is shared, and I don't to mess with everyone using the router unnecessarily.

Nov 27, 2010Using a D-Link wireless router, trying to get it through the authentication process with the client through a D-Link DWA-125 USB wireless. When I set encryption to "none" on both ends, the router links up OK, but when I enter matching encryption settings on the router, and then in the driver data file (RT2870STA.dat) on the client side, I can't get it to authenticate. I've tried all possible combinations in the .dat file with no luck. I'm fairly well convinced that there is a bug in the .dat file settings, and that the wireless port setting need to be forced at startup through the /etc/networking/interfces file, or some such procedure, to override the settings in the .dat file.

Sep 24, 2010I am running Fedora 13 and using Ndiswrapper with my pci wireless card. my router is a netgear wgr614v9 wireless router with wpa2-psk. When I try to connect to my network the only options I see for security are dynamic WEP (802.1x) and WPA &WPA2 Enterprise and for authentication all I see is TLS LEAP Tunneled TLS and Protected EAP (PEAP). I can connect to my network when I drop security on the network but other wise I am stuck. I have been trying to fix it for about a week now by myself to no avail

Dec 27, 2010I have xbmc, a media center shell that runs on ubuntu. I am trying to set up a laptop to run it and be a full time media center. so far it works great, I installed xbmc live, but the only issue is I have a wep2 protected wireless router and the wifi does not connect automatically.
I have it set up and am using wpa_supplicant once those commands are run the wifi works great.I am a novice in linux in general, and can not seem to get this to work on startup, can anyone point me in the right direction on this? I haven't been able to find the xbmc start up script if one exists, I figured adding those lines to it might work,does this sound like a reasonable approach? if anyone knows where that is and how it is defined to be launched on start-up i would appreciate it(I guess this is getting into the general Linux knowledge but still good info)

Jan 1, 2011Running ubuntu 10.10 here, brand new install/machine.USB wireless based on a realtek chipset. I spent a few days trying ndiswrapper, and now have the native driver up and running. I can see the network(s) but can't connect. If I encrypt the network, i get a bad password error from wicd network manager (All encypt. methods- Weps, WPA etc) If I open my wireless up with no encryption, i receive a "can't obtain IP" error.

Dec 23, 2010I am building an active directory and using BIND9 as my DNS. To allow for secure dynamic updates from the domain, I am enabling GSS-TSIG as detailed here and here. Unfortunately, some of the commands and configurations used here seem to be depreciated, at least in the newer versions that I'm using. My issue is one of keytab encryption. I generated a keytab using ktpass.exe on the Windows Server 2008 domain controller. I have tried DES/MD5, AES128/SHA1 and AES256/SHA1, each have been turned down by ktutil on the kerberos server (FreeBSD). Each time, it outputs the following error: ktutil: AES256/SHA1*: encryption type AES256/SHA1* not supported *Respective to encryption used.
I cannot find a list of suitable encryption schemes that ktutil will accept. The FreeBSD handbook details a means of producing a keytab file, but I'm not sure how to configure the Domain Controller to use the keytab.

Those are my authentication capabilities, obviously. I am using a WEP encryption for my wireless router and according to this, it will not allow me to connect. Is there anyway to allow that? The wireless card works just fine in Windows, even on the same network encryption type. Using a Intel Wireless/Pro 4965 ag. Note* this is my mother's router and whatnot. She won't change it the encryption type.

How can I go by doing that and also setting up an apache server to be able to connect through network. Right now I have apache/linux/mysql running it works when i go to localhost, but I would also like to let all the computers in office to access it. I would guess that will deal with virtual host which I know how to setup. I just need to setup an IP.

Jan 27, 2009I have a Centos 5.2 VM running under Windows 2008 Hyper-V. If I add two "legacy Nic's" and bridge them, everything appears to work fine. However, if I remove the legacy nics and replace them with two synthetic nics (linux integration components), the nics seems to function fine UNTIL I add them to a bridge.This VM will eventually be used as a DansGuardian/Squid transparent proxy for a local library. The logical layout is represented by the attached jpg image. I have also included the ifcfg- scripts for the adapters and bridge for both scenarios.It would also be useful if someone else has Hyper-V with the integration components and dual physical nics to see if they can reproduce my symptoms on their box.Legacy Adapters:
