I just got a wireless card and I've been having connection issues under Linux. The chipset I have is a Ralink 2860 (the card itself is an Asus PCE-N13) and supports 802.11n speeds up to 300 mbps. I am connecting to a DLink DIR-655 router, which also supports 802.11n at 300 mbps. I get full bars when connecting to my router, and my router's connection information shows my computer connected as 802.11n with the signal at around 80%, but the data rate is usually around 5.5 mbps. (I've rarely seen it go up to 18 mbps) I can confirm this woefully slow speed with anything I try to do over the network. Additionally, my wireless connection will sometime be disconnected and network manager will often fail to connect. When it fails to connect, my router lists my comptuer with the correct IP address, so I know it is successfully connecting to the router and the router is accepting the connection, but network manager seems to not recognize this.
I am running Debian Squeeze (testing), but I have a custom kernel, which is 2.6.35 and is using Debian's kernel configuration. I have the newest firmware from Ralink's website, and I also tried the newest drivers, which made no difference. (I have since removed those drivers, since I'd prefer to use the drivers supplied with the kernel if possible, but I can install them again if necessary) I put this card in my main computer and booted under Windows, and it was able to connect with 100% signal (it's right next to the router) and at 300 mbps. I also tried it under Debian on my main computer (with the stock 2.6.33 kernel), but it only connected as 802.11g, and even at 100% signal it was only connected at 36 mbps. For comparison, my laptop with an 802.11g card and running Mac OS X can achieve the full 54 mbps at 84%.
I have installed Fedora 12 OS which is using kernel 188.8.131.52-99.fc12.x86_64. I am using a Linksys WMP600N Wireless-N PCI Adapter with Dual Band card which has a Ralink chipset. I have installed the latest rt2860 driver which uses the 184.108.40.206-99.fc12.x86_64 kernel. If there is any other pieces of information that is need I can provide it.
Problem: I can use either the Ethernet connection which is built into my ABIT mother board or my PCI wireless card. My Ethernet connection works perfectly however; my wireless card comes up attaches to my wireless router; that's it. There is a strong signal, the WPA2 security password works correctly. I am able to ping my loop-back address and my DHCP IP address for my wireless card but I can not ping the router or anything outside of my box.
If I let the ping program run for a while and allow it to try to ping the router, after a period of time ~5minutes or so I will get several hits and then stop. The firewall does not change from my Ethernet connection to my wireless connection. The Wireless connection is a trusted interface in my firewall specifications. Questions/Thoughts:
Can I use the same OS provided routing table for my Ethernet connection for my wireless connection? Would the OS know which port to use by switching to a wireless connection (after reboot)? Do I need to somehow switch or bridge the port? Is the wpa_supplicant playing with my connection and opening it up and then shutting it down? Below are some netstat data: routing, interface table, statistics, and dmesg on the kernel driver rt2860.
I am new to fedora, but not so new to linux. I've got f13 installed on my netbook, and the speed and overall beter-ness? of it made me want to get it going on my desktop. I've installed, and have updated the kernel, and network manager (Along with a few other things). My problem is this; after about an hour or two I get a drop out, unable to reconnect. Until I use 'ifconfig wlan0 down > ifconfig wlan0 up' then it works great for about 10 minutes, slows down, and eventualy drops out. i updated networkmanager in the hopes it may have been that, but it really made only a slight difference.

I am using a linksys wusb54g > chipset ralink rt2510? (don't quote me on that its from memory). I am also using WPA encription. I am currently messing with those setting to see if that helps.
enable WPA encryption on my wireless connection? I'm having problems with my wireless. It connects without any problem, but it is very slow. Actually I have the impression that the connection velocity is varies from normal to very slow, however the average connection velocity is very slow. I have been looking up the forums for more the one month with any success. I have tried to install the compac-wireless drivers and the kmod-wl with many different network setups. For sure it is not a problem with my home network, since it works fine with my other old notebook running fedora 11 or when I boot in the windows.

I am a convert from Ubuntu (9.04 kept freezing on my laptop; when it did work, many packages it seemed were outdated--ie only Eclipse 3.2, rdesktop was messed up [and apparently is also in Fedora]), and I am having some trouble with getting my wireless working.I am running Fedora 11.First off, there is a problem when trying to connect when using DHCP. NetworkManager gets to the second green dot, and then after a short while I am given a message that the connection was disconnected.
Configuring the interface manually, not using DHCP, allows the connection to complete. However, the internet is very slow. There is a 15-30 sec delay before website loading actually commences, and then another delay each time an ad must be fetched from another server.How can I fix this delay? I know I have encountered it in earlier versions of Ubuntu, but I can't remember how I fixed it.About the rdesktop problem, if anyone is able to help [maybe I should post another thread?], the cursor color (the color of the pointer) is inverted---where it should be white it is black, and where it should be black it is white. I use rdesktop a lot to connect to my terminal server in my basement. Any idea how to fix it?
I'm running Fedora 12 on an Acer Aspire One with KDE. The built-in wireless works without a problem EVERYWHERE except at work. It's a shared wireless connection using WPA/WPA2 security.I can connect but it's "hit-and-miss" if I can do anything with it. Somedays it works well for a few minutes then has a period of inactivity - then slow - randomly receives...It worked flawlessly when the computer was running Windows7 no one else has connectivity issues but I'm the only one using Linux.

I'm having all sorts of problems with my wireless connections in an HP Pavilion DM1. I'm sure it was working last week. I have two access points, one with WPA, one unsecured. It's not working with either. I can connect to both of them fine with a wifi USB adapter.

I want to connect to a 300mbit network (802.11n). With Windows (the same Computer) I am able to connect with full speed, but with Ubuntu Maverick (64bit), and a lot of other distros I tested, I am only able to connect with 54mbit. The builtin wireless network card is an Intel Corporation Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 (rev 35). Is this a driver Problem? I updated to kernel version 2.6.37-rc2 via ppa sources, but with no luck. I tried to extract the windows driver and started it with ndiswrapper, but i properbly made somethng wrong, because the card did not show up, though ndiswrapper said adapter available... oO?
I have a problem with my wireless where when running the laptop from the battery the connection is very slow. When the laptop is connected to the power supply everything is fine, but the moment it's disconnected and run on the battery the speed drops when browsing the Internet or accessing files on other computers on my network.
The laptop is a Samsung SF310 Wireless chipset is BCM4313
In attempt to fix this I installed the latest drivers from the Broadcom site using this guide. When I enabled these drivers everything worked well. I did speed test and got the same speeds I get when connected via Ethernet:

So I set the drivers to load at boot using this forum post as a guide as the steps in the Broadcom guide didn't work and rebooted the laptop on battery power. The wireless connected fine, but the slow speed problem had returned. Running a speed test got the following results

So I ran iwconfig when running from battery and then from power supply. And when connected via the power supply the signal level is 5 and signal level 214. There may be some kind of power saving issue, although there are no relevant setting in the BIOS and I can't see anything in the various wireless control pannels. I have other wireless drivers and there are no problem with those.
Since upgrading to Ubuntu 11.04 my wireless connection has been extremely slow. The same happened with 10.10. Although that was quite different. Back then everything within my network moved slowly, but now it doesn't affect my web browser. It seems to have only slowed the application centre and update manager. I am still waiting for the flash plugin to download and install for testing ....., but I am torrenting Ubuntu 11.04 right now and have actually hit the limit of my bandwidth (1.1 MB/s) whereas the speed in the software centre and update manager was in the region of 45 kb/s.
I'm not sure if this is because I have installed extra drivers found here after I did some research.
Although my web surfing is fast and stable, I would like to get my updates and applications downloading properly. Does anyone know what I can do?

Those are my authentication capabilities, obviously. I am using a WEP encryption for my wireless router and according to this, it will not allow me to connect. Is there anyway to allow that? The wireless card works just fine in Windows, even on the same network encryption type. Using a Intel Wireless/Pro 4965 ag. Note* this is my mother's router and whatnot. She won't change it the encryption type.
There is a strange thing going out there in my box, I've tested b43-fwcutter on wpa-psk encrypted network, and there was no problem connecting (my card is broadcom 4318), recently I was trying to connect to WEP encrypted network without success. Network connection tested on other laptops (Vista, XP machines)so there is no possibility that the key isn't valid.
A while back I posted [URL] a question about Ubuntu 9.10 not recognizing my WEP encryption key. The problem that I had is still essentially the same: After upgrading to 9.10 beta, then trying to upgrade using the alternate install disc for the full version (because of the same problem) I ended up having to do a completely new installation. Anyhow the problem still stands: my internet card works and it detects available wireless networks, the only thing is that after entering the key in, it will attempt to connect, then after a min or so, it will ask for the key again, ad infinitum. The upshot is that I can't connect to the internet at all. Right now I'm on Windows 7 RC.
The only thing that has changed is that I tried disabling encryption entirely, and Ubuntu was still not able to connect (I think the connection just timed out after a few minutes). I should add that I have Verizon FiOS, an Actiontec router, and my computer (since it is far away from the router) connects through a Hawking_300N extender. Right now I am using Windows 7 RC (which unfortunately expires in a little over a week), so I can access the internet through Windows, and check for any posts, but I can't immediately provide any command outputs, I'd have to restart, and that would take a few minutes. Further, I have tried both Network Manager and WICD, both of which produced the same results. I have not tried any WPA encryption mainly because the router is shared, and I don't to mess with everyone using the router unnecessarily.
I've been troubleshooting this problem for several hours now and I'm out of ideas. My internet connection is fine in Windows 7 but an older computer I resurrected (AMD Athlon 1.7 GHz, 512 MB RAM, Fedora 14 Security Lab Spin) is having the stop-and-go's with its internet connection. I want to share my internet connexion via ad-hoc WiFi. If it's unsecured, it works fine, but when I use WPA encryption, it doesn't work anymore! I can connect from my iPod touch, but no internet. I am running FC13 on a Compaq Presario 2100 using a Broadcom BCM4306. I was able to get it running thanks to Fedora Unity Project. But It's a very unstable connection. I don't know what settings to adjust or enable or disable. It's not my router, this is the only wireless connection in the house that I have trouble with.
Even with both machines in the same room, I'm only getting 1Mbps when using a pair of TL-WN321G wireless USB adapters to link my main box and my laptop. I'm using Fedora 11 on both machines. It is just as bad if I use the laptop's built-in wireless. lsusb shows the adapter uses the Ralink RT2501USB chipset. iwlist wlan0 rate gives "wlan0 unknown bit-rate information."
I'm facing problems with Fedora13 and the AR9285 wifi card... the connection is just too slow, and the wired connection works fine. I just figured out that a lot of VAIO users (so am I) were in the same situation, and solved their problem by downloading ath9k drivers from linuxwireless.org. Fine, I did it! That's what I found :
Building and installing cd /path/to/compat-wireless-2.6.32-rc5 ./scripts/driver-select <driver-name> make sudo make install
...but make is looking for source files in /usr/src/kernels/2.6.34-7-61.fc13.x86_64/build/ , which doesn't exist! The /usr/src/kernels/ folder is just empty. I also found something about the fact that Fedora13 didn't came with kernel's source files... So how can I install that driver? (I didn't find the package via yum...)
My wireless was connecting fine, but it was impossible to browse with. So, after searching around for a while I found a thread where it said to enter this and reboot. #echo "net.ipv4.tcp_moderate_rcvbuf=0" >> /etc/sysctl.conf #echo "net.ipv4.tcp_default_win_scale=0" >> /etc/sysctl.conf But after entering that and re booting, now I cant even connect to the wireless. It says connecting but times out.
Using sudo iwlist scan, i will get a list of surrounding AP(s) around my laptop, is there a way to interpret the sudo iwlist scan results so that we can know what encryption type is the wireless network using?
I recently downloaded and installed CentOS 5.3 DVD media.The media check passed. I proceed to install the operating system sucessfully. After installation, all my hardware is recognized, when compared to CentOS 5.2. Anyway, when I attempt to connect to my wireless network that uses either WEP/WPA/WPA2-- I get an error message that I cannot recall (it basically only came up when I entered the key) However, I can connect to my wireless network when it is unencrypted and no open/shared key is needed.I would like to be able to connect to my wireless network when
FYI: I am using a RealTek RTL8185 Wireless Driver.Also, I use CentOS as a workstation.
Basically the problem is a slow download speed over my wireless connection that does not occur in Windows Vista. The reason I'm so annoyed is that the speed is not constantly slow. It bursts at around 600kb/s (good for my internet connection). The problem is that while trying to download a file it bursts for about a second,then total throughput decreases to +/- 1kb/s for a few seconds, then another burst and so on. Note the file I'm downloading is a http:// download, not p2p or anything. I've attached a screenshot of the System Monitor. Screenshot-System Monitor.png Some additional info.
