Other problem is when I try to use Gnome PPP dialer, it could not connect. Modem type is listed as ttyS0 and so on while I have setting in wvdial.conf ttyUSB0 so it does not support.
chitra@chitra:~$ sudo wvdial

My internet is provided by a 3g modem usb. I am sharing the internet connection through my desktop into a router and then to the rest of my Ubunut machines. Currently if I want to file share I have to go into the network manager and change the eth0 settings from shared to dchp automatic and then unplug the cable from the internet port on the router to one of the network ports. Is it possible to add another network card to the main machine and use that exclusively for either internet or file sharing.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using a cable modem wired to my PC via ethernet. My ISP is Road Runner, through Time Warner Cable.
I entered my IP address, Netmask, and DNS Servers into the network, not using DHCP. This was how I was able to achieve a network connection.
I am connected to the modem, but I cannot get internet.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have installed WvDial (apparently) but it has no icon or launcher to start it by default, how do i get it to run? I also need basic set up how to. I am running Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic) and network manager doesn't seem to be able to use my modem to connect to the internet (set up wizard works, appears connected, but then I get page not found error). Hence I wish to use WvDial to try to connect instead.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just installed Fedora 13, everything seems to work but the Internet connection. 3 devices are shown in the "Network Configuration" window (devices tab)(under "Network Device Control")"Network Cards" (wired) (wireless) and even the Motorola Modem from the ISP as well as all of the primary and secondary "DNS's", but will not connect! I have Broadcom devices on a Dell Latitude D600 Laptop. On the upper right of the desktop, the connection icon shows when I plug and unplug the cat5e, so it sees something there, but will not connect.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have 2 pcs at home. I dont have a switch so I can connect only one PC at a time to my adsl router/modem for internet access. In the past I had successfully connected the two PCs (NIC to NIC) to each other using the same ethernet cable which was supplied with my dlink adsl modem.
Recently the motherboard of on of my PC went bad so I replaced it with a new one. The problem is when I connect the two using the same Ethernet cable they won't connect. The lights on the Ethernet port won't light up. I can still connect both of them to the adsl router (NIC to Router) (one at a time).

How do I connect to internet?
Is the driver for my device missing on my system?
I've just installed ubuntu on my father's netbook hp 210 mini 3g with internal 3g modem. At the beginning everything was fine - system automatically detected modem and asked for PIN code. I was very surprised but during download some updates connection broke.. and since then ubuntu doesn't detect modem. I have even reinstalled system
In the broadband connection wizard there is no device detected. I'm on ubuntu 11.04, but on the 10.10 was the same problem.
I have wired internet, but I can't connect to my modem. I have cable internet (Comcast) but my computer can't detect it. I do not know what do to. Tried a whole bunch a things, but I'm a novice, (Ubuntu 10.something I tried to call but they say everything was okay and I keep telling the Comcast lady I had Ubuntu, but apparently she insisted I had Windows. I thought they were not very smart, so I gave up on them.
