Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Connect On Toshiba Satellite M645 With Intel 802.11 A/g/n Wireless LAN

Jan 25, 2011

I cant seem to understand what happens to my wifi networking, i just installed ubuntu 10.10 today (completely erasing windows) on my toshiba satellite m645. Seems like my wireless card (the specs say its intel 802.11a/g/n wireless LAN) will only randomly detect the available networks or will connect only for a few seconds just after i just turned it on, then it will disconnect.

Ubuntu Networking :: Toshiba Satellite A215 Not Seeing Wifi Networks?

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 - 64bit install with an A215. The wifi was working fine until today. Ubuntu seems to detect the hardware, and it shows the interface as being 'up', however no networks show up in either the network manager or 'sudo iwlist scan'. I'm not sure if it's a driver issue, or if the hardware itself died. Here is the output of lspci:

Ubuntu Networking :: Wifi Isn't Working?

Apr 19, 2010

For the past almost year, once in a while my wifi won't work.At home,I use an ethernet cable. When I go out, or am out of town, about 1/3 times the wifi won't connect, and won't even find access points. Once this happens, no matter how many times I restart, the wifi won't work. The ONLY way I can get it to work again is if I reboot with the ethernet cord plugged into the laptop and into a router/switch/hub. My neighbor (the one who got me into Ubuntu) is a pretty experienced linux network admin who looked a my laptop and has no idea what is causing this. I've attached my syslog log entry for the last time this happened. Does anyone know why this is? I LOVE ubuntu but I may need to switch back to Windows because I NEED wifi to work. You will see in the logfile I tried connecting to two different APs. The one that always works is the second one, called linksys.

Syslog:

CentOS 5 Networking :: RTL8111 / 8168B Not Working In Dell Studo Hybrid - Sort It?

Jan 30, 2009

This week I picked up a Dell Studio Hybrid and installed CentOS on it. I originally used 5.0 since I already had the DVD and the network card wasn't recognized at all (lspci recognized it but the card didn't show up in system-config-network). I then downloaded the 5.2 DVD and installed that. The network card then showed up in system-config-network but it still didn't work. If DHCP is enabled it tells me that no link is present, and if I manually configure it, I still can't ping the router. lspci reports the following about the network card:

02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 02)

The driver used is r8169.

I put Fedora 10 on it and the network is working fine, but I'd rather run CentOS on this machine. Is the issue likely to be fixed with CentOS 5.3 or should I just stick with Fedora?

Ubuntu :: HP 210 Can't Connect To Wifi - Sort It?

Jan 7, 2011

Okay, I know there's been plenty of issues with this (and the erractic pad, but I'll figure that one out later)...but I seriously cannot for the life of me figure this out.

I'm new to Linux and Ubuntu, so please be gentle! I downloaded Unbuntu a few nights ago and everything's fine except for not being able to connect to wifi. Now, I understand that I have to connect using an ethernet to fix the issue, but when I do (even after restarting my netbook and restarting my wifi), it STILL won't connect to the internet to download what I need to fix my wifi.

I'm leaving for Prague tomorrow and really only have tonight to really get this down. I have a mini mouse for now so all I need to focus on is this internet fail. If you're willing to walk me through it step by step (remember, I don't know coding or much indepth programing).

Ubuntu Networking :: 9.10 - WiFi Connection Not Working

Feb 3, 2010

I just recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 on a dell laptop. My WiFi connection that I've been using on the same computer for years is not working when I log on. However if I run the burnt image cd and choose the option "Use Ubuntu without making any changes to your computer" I am asked if I want install proprietary drivers. If I activate one "Broadcom STA" I can connect to the wireless connection in my house. When I am using the version installed on my laptop it doesn't ask me if I want to install the drivers and it doesn't even find them when I go to hardware drivers under system. So to sum it up I can get connection when I run Ubuntu from the cd but not when I run the Ubuntu on my laptop.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wifi With Rt5390 In 11.04 Not Working

I bought my wife a Compaq Presario CQ56 for Mother's Day, took it home and put Ubuntu 11.04 on it because she didn't like Windows 7 which was on it and love Ubuntu on the other computers in the house. Anyway, the wireless adapter, an rt5390sta isn't working and have tried downloading the adapter from the ratech web site and it will not compile. Anyone have any ideas on how to get this working. I tried another solution which was mentioned on the forums here of removing the options from the network manager in preferred applications and that didn't work either.

On the other computer there is no problem with it. We tried to change the host of the connection, but the result was the same (the host computer couldn't connect to the "server")

Ubuntu Networking :: Getting WiFi Working On Zoostorm Freedom XL

Jun 1, 2010

I've recently invested in a new netbook, a Zoostorm Freedom XL and decided to install the Ubunto Netbook Remix alongside the Windows 7 starter edition which comes preinstalled.Everything went amazingly smoothly, and I now have a 99% working system - the only issue is the wireless networking. The wifi adapter doesn't seem to be being recognised by the Ubuntu install at all, to the extent that even using the wifi hotkey the wifi indicator does not come on and I cannot access wireless networks.

I've done a bit of reading, and it seems that ndiswrapper may be the solution I'm looking for, however I'm not entirely sure how to go about implementing this. The network card, in Windows, is simply recognised as "802.11n Wireless Lan Card" and the device manager properties suggest it's manufactured by Ralink and using driver version 3.0.8.0.
