Ubuntu Networking :: Wifi Password Not Working?
Sep 1, 2010
The system recognizes the signal and asks me to input the network password, which matches;but when asked for the second password, the "nm connection editor", the password doesn't match. Isn't that password the same as the log on?

I try to connect to my access point and after a long wait of maybe 30 seconds to a minute it will prompt me to enter my password. I entered it correctly and it still keeps on asking me to enter it. So just then I entered it with the password showing and double checked over it before trying again and it still didn't connect.
I need to have internet on my netbook working by tonight or I will have to go back to windows.
What can I do to make my laptop connect to my access point? Its not a problem with my access point, my desktop running windows, it connects just fine to my wireless.
Here is part of my syslog
Quote:

I'm a novice using Ubuntu 10.1 on an Asus EeePC. For several days, my computer has refused to connect to the office wifi, though it's had no trouble doing this in the past. It recognizes the signal, and the wifi icon keeps indicating that it's in the process of connecting, but the process never completes. Every few minutes I'll be asked to re-enter the password. Eventually it gives up.
I'm not sure if this problem extends to other wifi networks or just the one at my office.

I am using an Asus R2 G32 Wifi Router. The CD's and the manual that comes along with the Router does not support Linux . Now the wifi connection was installed in Windows 6 months back with a password and but it got reset to default somehow. Now i want to set password again. Whenever i try to log in 192.168.1.1 in my browser, and Change the password and select Apply . Nothing happens to the page, as if it is static. No Submit Buttons work in this. Um a bit in mess ryt now as my wifi is vulnerable to any1 ryt now.

I am running Ubuntu 10.04 on a PackardBell notebook and have just got an Orange Livebox 2 for broadband connection(after years of dial-up as no adsl in my area).I am trying to connect via WiFi to the Livebox to configure, but neither NetworkManager nor Wicd will connect. NM sees the Livebox but simply fails to connect after trying; Wicd says "Bad password".The WPA2 password I have entered is definitely correct, and I have connected without any problem from an AcerOne under Linpus.I have also tried to connect using Wicd and an ethernet cable, and this doesn't connect either, returning "Connection Failed: Unable to Get IP Address"

When I need to type in the password to get on a wifi network, the "connect" button is grayed out and unclickable until I've typed in 8 characters for the password, making it impossible to connect to networks with shorter passwords. I'm not sure if this problem is unique to 10.10 or not, I've been using linux for a couple years now and I've never tried to connect to a network with such a short password before until last weekend, after my friend figured out how to change his password from the one his ISP set for him.
I'm running Xubuntu 10.10 on an IBM T42 laptop, here's the relevant hardware from the lspci command, 02:01.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82540EP Gigabit Ethernet Controller (Mobile) (rev 03) 02:02.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter (rev 04)

For the past almost year, once in a while my wifi won't work.At home,I use an ethernet cable. When I go out, or am out of town, about 1/3 times the wifi won't connect, and won't even find access points. Once this happens, no matter how many times I restart, the wifi won't work. The ONLY way I can get it to work again is if I reboot with the ethernet cord plugged into the laptop and into a router/switch/hub. My neighbor (the one who got me into Ubuntu) is a pretty experienced linux network admin who looked a my laptop and has no idea what is causing this. I've attached my syslog log entry for the last time this happened. Does anyone know why this is? I LOVE ubuntu but I may need to switch back to Windows because I NEED wifi to work. You will see in the logfile I tried connecting to two different APs. The one that always works is the second one, called linksys.

I just recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 on a dell laptop. My WiFi connection that I've been using on the same computer for years is not working when I log on. However if I run the burnt image cd and choose the option "Use Ubuntu without making any changes to your computer" I am asked if I want install proprietary drivers. If I activate one "Broadcom STA" I can connect to the wireless connection in my house. When I am using the version installed on my laptop it doesn't ask me if I want to install the drivers and it doesn't even find them when I go to hardware drivers under system. So to sum it up I can get connection when I run Ubuntu from the cd but not when I run the Ubuntu on my laptop.

I have a wlan adapter working in 9.04 out of the box with the Intersil Corp. Prism GT driver. After a clean install of 10.04 the adapter is not working. How can I fix this? I am using Ubuntu for a while now but don't know the ins and outs of installing drivers and firmware yet.

Moving back to 10.04, I've been trying for DAYS to get my wifi working properly. I've been scouring the boards trying everything under the sun, including attempting to install a new kernal, also a complete wipe/reinstall. I hope I have better luck with 10.04 or I'm ringing the bell on Ubuntu all together.

I bought my wife a Compaq Presario CQ56 for Mother's Day, took it home and put Ubuntu 11.04 on it because she didn't like Windows 7 which was on it and love Ubuntu on the other computers in the house. Anyway, the wireless adapter, an rt5390sta isn't working and have tried downloading the adapter from the ratech web site and it will not compile. Anyone have any ideas on how to get this working. I tried another solution which was mentioned on the forums here of removing the options from the network manager in preferred applications and that didn't work either.

Yesterday while me and my friend were in the train, we tried to set up a wireless network and play frozen bubble. So one of us makes a new wireless connection, the other connects to it, but we observed this: When the creator of the wifi network opens the game and tries to start the multiplayer, it says that it cannot connect to the server. On the other computer there is no problem with it. We tried to change the host of the connection, but the result was the same (the host computer couldn't connect to the "server")

I've recently invested in a new netbook, a Zoostorm Freedom XL and decided to install the Ubunto Netbook Remix alongside the Windows 7 starter edition which comes preinstalled.Everything went amazingly smoothly, and I now have a 99% working system - the only issue is the wireless networking. The wifi adapter doesn't seem to be being recognised by the Ubuntu install at all, to the extent that even using the wifi hotkey the wifi indicator does not come on and I cannot access wireless networks.
I've done a bit of reading, and it seems that ndiswrapper may be the solution I'm looking for, however I'm not entirely sure how to go about implementing this. The network card, in Windows, is simply recognised as "802.11n Wireless Lan Card" and the device manager properties suggest it's manufactured by Ralink and using driver version 3.0.8.0.

Installation was flawless. My WiFi router is up and I'm able to connect my Windows laptop. Once I login to Ubuntu, WiFi doesn't even start to scan and even if I go into 'network connections' to add the SSID manually, no luck. I just get the notification that I'm not connected, no other errors.

I've been running ubuntu on my Asus 1001ha netbook for half a year or so. I ran Karmic for at while, wifi working and all, accepted the recommended updates when Update Manager popped up and everything was fine until one day I let Update Manager do it's thing and my wifi stopped working.. Lycid had just come out that same week, so I thought "screw it" and installed 10.04 instead..
So I've been running 10.04 for a couple of months now, everything working fine, including the wifi - until today.. Update Manager suggested some upgrades, I accepted and *pouf* my wifi is gone again..
That's the second time Update Manager knocks out my wifi, any way to roll back todays update or how to the the wifi working again?

I have a laptop that was working fine with 10.04 LTS. Today, I did a full 10.10 install and now my wireless is not working. Thinking it had to do with 10.10, I did a full install back to 10.04 LTs. Wireless is still not working. I tried installing the driver for my laptop's internal wifi using ndiswrapper, but that didn't work either. I have another laptop that is identical to the non-working one, with the exception that it is running a Celeron processor and non-Nvidia graphics. Otherwise, they are identical with respect to the wifi adapter. The Celeron machine is giving me absolutely no problems.

i am getting some troubles with WiFi. I got a Lenovo G550 with a BCM4312, at first i found some troubles making it work but i managed to find a proper driver and it is working "fine" Every 5 minutes or so my WiFi freezes and internet stops working. I don't get disconnected from the network, but until i don't reconnect to it, internet will not work.
Rare thing is, i realised that this happens ONLY when my notebook is plugged in. When it's working on battery, this does not happen. If i use it on battery it works for 30-40 mins (or more) and 3 minutes after i plug it in, it just stops working. I'm using Ubuntu 10.10, if there is any information i could give, just tell me. I also have a Windows partition and this does not happen there, either plugged in or on battery.

after upgrading to 11.04, I can't use the fn-f2 combination anymore to activate the wifi card. I'm using a Dell latitude laptop. Wifi is functioning normally when it's on and I can even turn it off with the hotkeys. When I try to turn it back on, the light goes on for a second and than dims again. I than have to reboot into Windows to get it back on, which is kind of annoying.

Working with a Dell Inspiron 6000 and installed Ubuntu 10.10 just to get familiar with some form of Linux. The wireless card is Dell's 1470 and the chip on the card is labelled BCM4311 so that's what I went for. At first it showed an unconnected wired NIC and for wireless it said "no firmware", but now it doesn't say anything about either one of them, it says "no network devices available". I followed the instructions here [URL] for both "STA - No Internet Access" and "b43 - No Internet Access" and when it says to go to the additional drivers menu to enable the new driver, there's nothing on the list. I then tried [URL] that guide and [URL] that one. Don't say things like "just run a qf13 on the PCL so the ergotron bus will be cleared, it's probably a thermawhatsit in conflict with the meatloaf kernel" as I won't have a clue how to execute said instruction. More useful would be "open a terminal and type 'ireallyenjoynewcarpetting' then check if the output says 'blargh 010101' ".

I have a Broadcom BCM4318 that isn't working with the B43 or the other (I tried installing both and while they supposedly installed successfully, neither shows up in the Additional Drivers tab for me to enable.) I tried using both sets of directions stickied up at the top of this forum. Neither seems to be working for me (no guarantees on whether I did it right) though the B43 is apparently the one I need.Disclaimer: I'm a total newbie to using command line and a new convert from Windows so I'm rusty at navigating and making things work, though things are finally starting to make a little sense after two days of hacking at it.
