I downloaded ubuntu 11.04 on my HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop and the wifi on it doesn't work. I'm running it in parallel with windows xp and the wifi works find on windows (as it has always done) but once I boot the laptop in ubuntu, it doesn't recognise anything, no driver, nothing.
get the wifi working in ubuntu on my laptop. Ubuntu is pretty much useless to me if I can't get the wifi to work on it.
I recently upgraded from 9.04 to 10.04 and can no longer connect to the internet, even after enabling wireless networking in the Network Manager. This happened to me on a different laptop recently, but someone here linked me to the proper drivers and solved my problem.

After a reboot it all loaded and worked fine, just remember to make sure the little light on the f12 button is blue, not red. This guide should work for other laptops and other distros as well (though obviously you'll likely need a different driver file to start off with).
Not sure exactly where to go on this one... I'm trying to get the embedded/stock webcam on my wife's Dell dv6000 to work.
I'm told that this webcam works fine via uvcvideo and have tried to install the package but am thinking the problem is with ubuntu's detection itself.

Whenever I try to install 10.4 on my daughter's HP Pavilion dv6000 the installation screens show up as stripes, three of them, on the page.I don't ever see a full screen so I can't run the install. I've tried the 32bit, the 64 bit, and the dual boot for Windows options.

The install for Zorin (including updates, programs I selected from the repos, etc) worked fine, but now I can't connect to the net.It recognizes my router (Belkin), recognizes other networks (neighbors, school), and it says I'm connected but anything to do with the net (firefox, chrome, synaptic, etc) won't connect.Checking lspci, I get:

Everything runs perfectly - when my laptop is connected with the power cord. But when I go battery the wireless disconnects after a few minutes. It then asks for the wpa password, searches for the router, asks again, and so on indefinitely, until I reboot and it all replays once more.
i installed Ubuntu 11.4 on a hp pavilion g6 and all seemed good until i realized the wireless on/off toggle switch( that is integrated into f12) wouldn't toggle so it is stuck on off. so now i have been fores to the basement to use an Ethernet cable.

I recently had sound 'working' as in I had to reload the alsa drivers each time I booted up my computer. After a year of giving up how to fix it, I looked it up again and was told to update my alsa drivers. I updated my drivers to version 1.0.23 and my sound was working but was still acting weird. For example, my sound would play a song, in Adobe Flash, at its highest volume even if the volume wasn't at max. I was just happy that I didn't have to reload the drivers, but this was another problem.Now, for some reason, sound just doesn't work. I've tried reloading the drivers several times and looked for a solution on these forums as well as on google. No luck. So I ask, is there anything I can do to get my sound to work?

The first thing I tried was going to System>Prefrences>network connections, and clicking on the wireless tab. I tried to add a network think manyally, and I miserably failed.

My wireless LAN connection on this machine occasionally stops working. The network traffic bar shows periodic very small transmissions but the failure of all network dependent applications (Firefox, package manager, etc.) indicates to me that the machine is no longer talking to the net. I can fix it by reselecting my home network in nm-applet from the drop-down list. This causes the machine to disconect, reconnect and all is well for some random period of time thereafter. I don't know if this is related or not, but a couple of months ago I unsuccessfully attempted to share a hotel's wired Internet connection over my wireless card. I may have hosed some settings or it could be unrelated.The "unknown interface" portion of the restart attempt is interesting but I don't know enough to fix it.

I have an LM Technologies 54Mbps wifi usb adapter.This is because my wireless section on my motherboard does not work.The drivers on the installation disk do not automatically install for linux. Looking at the manual I have to build the device driver. On the page is computer programing formulie that looks like a foreign language. I do not know computer programing. Atlast after a long time thinking and concerns I made it ... installed F12 on HP Pavilion using a LIVE CD ... I got a AMD turion 64 X2 with a NVIDIA graphics card (7200M this is what it says in VISTA) I am more than satisfied with F12 on my HP ... this is first time I am using Linux on LAPTOP and my previous usage is purely on desktops and have some good touch with F9 and still continuing with it. I have few doubts At present I guess I am using Nouveau drivers for my Nvidia graphics card. But I hear from communities people complaining of HIGH TEMPERATURES as open source drivers for NVIDIA are not good enough (NVIDIA doesnt release much info on them). So should I change my NVIDIA drivers to proprietary one? Any tips or gnome settings on LAPTOPS to best utilize all the resources without burning out things?
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy HP Pavilion laptop (3GB RAM, 1.8GHz, Intel Core2 Duo, Integrated graphics) has been freezing almost every single time I log in. This used to happen occasionally. Recently I had to clear my whole drive and reinstall Ubuntu (now using maverick) because it stopped working. Now when I log in and it freezes the only thing I can do is a hard reboot. I've probably done this way too many times by now and it can't be good for the computer.
To get around this I do the following: Safe mode works perfectly fine and I use it to disable compiz. Then I log back out and log in to the normal desktop and it works fine. Then I re-enable compiz and everything is fine. So compiz itself seems to not be the problem? Maybe it has something to do with how it is being called right after log in?I could try to live without compiz or just disable it every time I log out but that's a hassle.
I occasionally stay at hotels where I get free wired internet but not wifi, I'd like to use my laptop as an access point so that I can have internet on my Ipod Touch. I know it's possible because after trying unsuccessfully in Ubuntu 9.04 a few times I decided to try it with windows vista and it took me a matter of seconds and both the laptop and ipod touch were surfing the internet. I'd prefer not to boot into windows just for this.
In ubuntu when I create a new wireless network, network manager shows that I'm connected to both the autoeth0 and the wireless network I created but neither computer has internet access.

View 9 Replies View Relatedwith some troubles, i finally installed the broadcom wireless driver. it says it's installed and activated, the blue light on the laptop is on saying the wireless is activated, but for the life of me i can't figure out how to make it connect. the only network connection icon i have is the wired one. it's not showing the wireless, or available wireless signals or whatever.
this is my first time using wireless with linux (thought i've been using linux for about 4 years now), so maybe there's some stupid little box somewhere i didn't check or something. any ideas?
the laptop is an HP Pavilion dv9000, the distro is Ubuntu Studio 10.4, and the wireless card is a broadcom, and is installed/active according to the hardware drivers window. i've seen some posters having a problem in 10.10 with everything appearing to work, but just... doesn't. haven't seen a solution for that particular problem though

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with the suspend button (fn+f5) on my hp pavilion dv2000 laptop. It is working but only after an intervention. So, every I boot up my system the short-cut/button is not functioning. In order to make it work I have to open the Power Management Preferences and close them. I don't even need to change anything there. Now the button will be working just fine until the next restart. It's pretty annoying to visit the Power Management after each restart, isn't it. Any ideas how could I fix this?

The ethernet connection works fine and so does the wifi connection - as long as I sit within one meters range from my router! As soon as I take the laptop further away the connection drops. The router is still being found by network-manager and the signal is just below 100%, but when I try to establish a connection it fails.
I'm sitting here on a fresh Ubuntu 10.04 install, and I had exactly the same problem with 9.10. That time I went through a lot of different procedures, and in some strange way the problem was solved. I haven't been that lucky this time though, I've tried reinstalling network-manager, using ndiswrapper, installing the wireless backports package, tried all kinds of drivers.. nothing works.
There shouldn't be any problem with the connection itself; I've had a perfect connection downstairs but now I can't even connect if I stand two metres from the router! Has anyone experienced anything like this and managed to fix it? My wireless card is Atheros AR2413. This is an example from daemon.log
