Ubuntu :: Dv6000 Pavilion Webcam Not Detected?

Nov 13, 2010

Not sure exactly where to go on this one... I'm trying to get the embedded/stock webcam on my wife's Dell dv6000 to work.

I'm told that this webcam works fine via uvcvideo and have tried to install the package but am thinking the problem is with ubuntu's detection itself.

Outputs:

Code:
christina@christina-laptop:~$ ls -la /dev/v*
crw-rw---- 1 root tty 7, 0 2010-11-13 15:26 /dev/vcs

Ubuntu :: Hp Pavilion, Webcam Microphone Not Working Anymore?

Mar 23, 2010

I have an HP dv4 1313dx, pavilion notebook computer. The Built in webcam seems to work OK, but I have absolutely no sound registering when I speak over webchat , or over just sound recordings when I talk at the computer. I'm not sure if it's a software issue or not. I upgraded to 10.4 beta because 9.10 wouldn't let me run my wireless card. So upgrading to the new beta version solved that, but as I said I noticed the built in mic on my notebook isn't picking up any sound. This is whether I'm using Skype, sound recorder, or AMSN for webchats.

Ubuntu :: Inbuilt Webcam Not Detected?

Jul 20, 2011

My Ubuntu 10.04 will not detect the inbuilt webcam on my Compaq Presario CQ61 laptop computer. This laptop only runs Ubuntu as I removed Windows when I got it home new from the shop a few years back. Haven't tried to get the webcam working until now. I have downloaded "Cheese" and when I run it I get the message No Device Found.I have also tried gstreamer-properties in a terminal and get the message video for linux 2 (v4l2): Cannot identify device '/dev/video0'

is it a lost cause to get my webcam working?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Webcam (Acer Crystal Eye) Is Not Being Detected?

Jun 30, 2011

I couldn't use it, but it was still being detected by hardinfo and when I typed up lsusb, it came up in the list of available devices. For some strange reason, Cheese couldn't use it, so I tried using luvcview instead, to find that the path /dev/video0 didn't exist. I changed the name of /dev/video1 to /dev/video0; thereupon, I could use my webcam with luvcview just fine, so I did a test call with Google Talk, and I could see myself fine, only it froze when I moved my screen. I did a second call, and a few seconds in, my image froze again, and my cam isn't being recognized by hardinfo or lsusb now.

Any suggestions? Is my issue hardware originated, or do you think it might have had something to do with the fact that I changed /dev/video0 to video 1?

Also, I'm on Natty Narwhal 11.04.

EDIT: This is what I'm getting when I type "lsusb":

Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

My webcam used to be on Bus 005, so might there be a slight chance it's still being recognized?

EDIT 2: After doing "lsusb" several times I found that the webcam can be recognized on certain positions of the screen. Looks like my issue is hardware-related.

Applications :: Webcam - Image Sensor HV7131R Is Not Always Identified As Being Detected When Booting

Jul 17, 2010

Using Slackware 13.0. Have a Microdia web cam (60fc) and was (still am) looking for a simple free application to test it. Found a site which identified the drivers, modules, etc. needed so was checking my messages file and noticed that the Image Sensor HV7131R is not always identified as being detected when booting: kernel: usb 1-1.3: HV7131R image sensor detected Is this a problem or what?

I found modules videodev, V4L2, but could not find compat_ioctl32 and it is not listed in the modules loaded. Is this correct? Could not "find" it. I see usbcore listed during booting but does this mean it is a module? or a driver? or what? Also cannot find the an appropriate module that is for either ehci_hcd or uhci_hcd related as both of these appear in the messages. Also I see that the camera is for SN9C105 bridge and know that the "sn9c105" is supposed to be included in "sn9c102" module(?) but the SN9C105 camera notation does not always appear in messages. Is this correct? or (I think) I am confused by the numbering and cases used, i.e. what is a module (loadable?) a bridge and why change cases? Can someone straighten me out? Are all modules loaded listed by lsmod or just the loadable ones and usbcore etc. are "modules" loaded at another time?

Hardware :: Noname Webcam Detected - Works For Scan But Not Preview / Civilize This Beast?

Dec 31, 2009

I'm running Kubuntu Karmic Koala 9.10. I just got a no-name USB webcam. It works fine under Windows. Under Linux the behavior is odd and a little frustrating. xsane does recognize it, but when I attempt to preview it or scan, I get the message "Failed to start scanner; invalid argument". Under skanlite, I can scan an image but if I attempt a preview, skanlite generates an internal error. The USB code is...
Unlike the other USB devices, no name shows up.

I'd like to use this device under Skype, but the Linux version of Skype doesn't provide any way to test whether the device works or not. Windows does provide such a test (via Welcome), and the webcam works correctly there.

How can I civilize this beast?

Ubuntu Networking :: No Wireless - Hp Dv6000 Broadcom?

Jan 11, 2011

with some troubles, i finally installed the broadcom wireless driver. it says it's installed and activated, the blue light on the laptop is on saying the wireless is activated, but for the life of me i can't figure out how to make it connect. the only network connection icon i have is the wired one. it's not showing the wireless, or available wireless signals or whatever.

this is my first time using wireless with linux (thought i've been using linux for about 4 years now), so maybe there's some stupid little box somewhere i didn't check or something. any ideas?

the laptop is an HP Pavilion dv9000, the distro is Ubuntu Studio 10.4, and the wireless card is a broadcom, and is installed/active according to the hardware drivers window. i've seen some posters having a problem in 10.10 with everything appearing to work, but just... doesn't. haven't seen a solution for that particular problem though

Ubuntu Multimedia :: No Sound On HP Pavillion Dv6000 Series Laptop?

Aug 6, 2010

I recently had sound 'working' as in I had to reload the alsa drivers each time I booted up my computer. After a year of giving up how to fix it, I looked it up again and was told to update my alsa drivers. I updated my drivers to version 1.0.23 and my sound was working but was still acting weird. For example, my sound would play a song, in Adobe Flash, at its highest volume even if the volume wasn't at max. I was just happy that I didn't have to reload the drivers, but this was another problem. Now, for some reason, sound just doesn't work. I've tried reloading the drivers several times and looked for a solution on these forums as well as on google. No luck. So I ask, is there anything I can do to get my sound to work?

Ubuntu :: HP Pavilion DV7-4150ea?

Jul 12, 2011

I wonder if anybody could possibly help me with my new laptop. I bought a new HP Pavilion DV7-4150ea about a month ago with windows 7 x64 cough cough, hate windows and would love to be able to get Ubuntu 11.04 working on my laptop or any other version that will be ok.

What happens, when I install either live usb or install to hard drive from DVD, it locks up when I do a restart or shut down, it all seems OK until then.

Could it be the video cards installed on this laptop, as there is two 1 x 1GB ATI Mobility HD 5650 and 1 x Intel HD Graphics. Any help would be great as I love Linux and prefer it to windows every time.

If you need more info then please ask, love to get this working with linux.

I have an HP Pavilion laptop running Kubuntu 9.10. The sound worked at one point, but somewhere along the line it broke. When I test the sound in the system settings panel, I get nothing. No errors, no sound. I checked KMix and alsamixer. All channels are unmuted and turned up. I've also tried the headphone jack, and there's no sound there, either. It works fine if I boot into Windows. Here's the output from alsa-info.sh: [URL]... I would also like Amarok to work, too. I had problems in the past getting it to output sound.
