Ubuntu Networking :: WLAN Doesn't Find A Network To Connect?

Dec 11, 2010

recently I risked a look to the Linux world and I'm happy so far, but now I've got a Problem, I'm unable to solve by myself. I installed Mint (Julia) on my old Laptop to test Linux. The Laptop has a very old PCMCIA WLAN Card with a Realtek rtl8180 chipset. Everything seems to run perfectly so far with one exception: the WLAN doesn't find any Network to connect although the card and the driver seem to be installed correctly.

Here some code from the terminal:

Code:
lspci

00:01.0 PCI bridge: ATI Technologies Inc PCI Bridge [IGP 340M]

Ubuntu Networking :: Wlan Does Not Connect (ubuntu/network-manager Bug?)

Jan 28, 2010

so far i testet 4 wlan cards (prism, ?zytel?, realtek and another realtek) they all work without a problem with kubuntu. but with ubuntu they dont want to build up a connection to my router. it looks like the passphrase is wrong..he asks me after a short time to reenter the phrase. but the phrase isnt wrong(copy pasted) the phrase has some special characters but only '=' and a few '!'. so i doubt that that could be the problem im pretty sure there are more people out there who have the same problem. I hope someone knows a solution :/

edit: i did some searching and found this... seems to be a major problem[URL]...

Debian Configuration :: Cannot Connect To Certain WLAN With Network-manager

Jul 23, 2015

Since a recent update on Stretch, I have been unable to use the network-manager to connect to my home wireless network on my laptop. It was working fine before. I did not change any settings on the WLAN router. I can still connect to other wireless networks at work and university, just not this particular one at home. All other non-Debian devices in my household are still able to connect just fine. While figuring this out, I have tried connecting manualy with ifup but I don't really know how that works. Right now there is only the loopback entry in /etc/network/interfaces.

Below is the output of syslog, when gnomes network-manager is trying to connect, but fails.

Ubuntu Networking :: Server Doesn't Find My Other Network Devices

Jun 30, 2010

I've got three network devices on a laptop:

1. Built-in ethernet LAN
2. Built-in ethernet WLAN
3. PCMCIA ethernet LAN

I installed Ubuntu Server on this computer without the last one inserted.I inserted the last one today, and it lights up when i put in the cable. To be sure if Ubuntu has found it, I tested with the install CD and could see that it found all three at the first part of the installation where I have to chose a primary device.I can't get my WLAN card working, neither do I get my PCMCIA LAN card working. The third card, this PCMCIA card, has worked on Ubuntu Desktop using another laptop. And as said, the setup finds all three.

Ubuntu Networking :: Ad-Hoc And IPod Touch - Doesn't Seem To Be Able To Find The Network ?

Apr 17, 2011

I'm trying to connect to my 1st gen iPod touch using an Ad-Hoc network, but I can't find it on my iPod. I want to use it to do a presentation, not internet share or anything too complicated. I set the network up as follows (I'm on 10.10 by the way). Create new wireless network > Network name: xyz Wireless security: none - Create Then I went to edit connections and set an IP address and subnet mask and gateway (to 192.255.0.1, 255.255.255.0, 1.1.1.1 respectively) and set Band to "B/G 2.4 GHz". My iPod doesn't seem to be able to find the network. (It doesn't show up and typing it into "other" it "can't find the network xyz")

Ubuntu Networking :: Network Doesn't Auto-connect At Startup

Jan 5, 2010

I have a Broadcom 4312 wireless chip. I have use the STA drivers that Ubuntu recommends. I can connect quite easily just by clicking on the icon, so this is more than a niggle than a problem.

My network isn't protected as we live in the middle of nowhere (quite literally) and network theft isn't a problem. We also run a self-catering cottage, and let guests have free access to our network anyway, so it is easier for guests to access our network without me having to give them all the key. When I did use wpa, it would start itself up with the laptop, so I kind of know that this might be the cause. Is there any way I can fix it without encrypting the network?

Ubuntu Networking :: Network Manager Doesn't Seem To Be Able To Use Modem To Connect To Internet

Feb 9, 2010

I have installed WvDial (apparently) but it has no icon or launcher to start it by default, how do i get it to run? I also need basic set up how to. I am running Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic) and network manager doesn't seem to be able to use my modem to connect to the internet (set up wizard works, appears connected, but then I get page not found error). Hence I wish to use WvDial to try to connect instead.

Ubuntu Networking :: Booting Up The Server Doesn't Connect To The Wireless Network?

Oct 5, 2010

i'm experiencing some weird behaviour: I have a server running ubuntu 10.04 and two Apple laptops in my home network. Sometimes after booting up the server doesn't connect to the wireless network, but instead "kills" the connection of the laptops. (The network then isn't available for about two minutes - it's showing but it can't connect) On the server the network interface is up, but not associated.

Sometimes the interface isn't configured properly (iwconfig isn't showing an entry) - but in this case the behaviour obviously isn't showing. some information about my system:

Ubuntu Version: Server 10.04x64
Wireless Card: Netgear WG311v3 with marvell chipset

So far i have tried:

But i cant even ping 192.168.1.1 (Network unreachable error). Is it possible that Ubuntu tries to use eth0 (which was connected to a similar /16 before) to ping 192.168.1.1 or is there somethign wrong with my commands?

Also will an AP allow access to the network although i don't have an IP from its DHCP server?

I always have to choose "Connect to hidden wlan", choose my config, enter my password, then connect. Once connected everything works fine. But if I choose WPA-PSK-TKIP or WPA2-AES or WPA-PSK & WPA2-PSK I can't connect. Ubuntu prompts me to enter my encryption key. I enter it. It runs for a while and then prompts me again. Networking :: Unable To Connect To Services On Box Through WLAN?

Jun 20, 2010

I have a RedHat linux server box connected to LinkSys router through ethernet port. I've assigned a static IP to the Linux box, which is out of range with router's DHCP range.

The Linux box has Apache, JBOSS, SVN and several other services installed, but none of these services are accessible through the WLAN. However, SSH and SFTP are accessible from WLAN.

Another interesting observation is that if I open a browser on the linux box (by exporting the DISPLAY to Exceed on my laptop on the WLAN) and point the browser's address bar to localhost:80 or localhost:9080, then I can access these services!!.. So, I suspect that something is wrong with accessing these services from a client on WLAN and I am looking for a solution for the same.

Networking :: Fail To Connect To WLAN With Realtek 8172 Device

Nov 9, 2010

I have a ThinkPad x100e with a wireless card.Code:03:00.0 Network controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. Device 8172 (rev 10)my problem is that I can't connect to my wireless network with Gentoo. I've been running Slackware64-13.1 on this computer and now have Windows 7, Ubuntu and Gentoo installed. Slackware, Ubuntu as well as Windows 7 connect to the wlan without problems. I'm using the driver rtl8192se, the module is loaded r8192se_pci and is the same with Slackware and Ubuntu.

I've read many posts and found that other people experience problems with Realtek wlandevices as well. But I have no Idea how to get connected with Gentoo at my wlan. It looks like that the netbook is connected for a very short time, but when dhcpcd broadcasts for a lease the connection is already closed.

But I needed to reinstall Fedora because I didn't do the partitioning right. After that the problem arises. I couldn't connect to the wlan. The first installation it was working fine. Now I can't. I select the network, enter the password and then it just says "Disconnected" or something like that then nothing else happens. So I had to reinstall it again thinking I did something wrong on the installation. But still it wasn't working. But it seems to be working when I boot from the live cd. OpenSUSE Network :: 11.2 Install - When Exit YaST The Network Doest Show Up - No Icon In The System Tray And Doesn't Even Try To Connect

Jan 16, 2010

I am relatively new at Linux and am having some problems with an install of openSUSE 11.2. I installed 11.2 on my Thinkpad X31 dual boot with WinXP. It seems to work very well except the network. I looked up swerdna's instructions on setting network cards up. I used YaST to try and set the system up as described in swerdna's instructions. Everything looks fine my network card and wireless card show up in the overview settings screen and everything sets up fine. But when I exit YaST the network doest show up no icon in the system tray and it doesn't even try to connect.

I did go into hardware to see if it was identifying my hardware and my network card shows up as "Thinkpad R40" and the wireless shows up as Cisco Aironet Wireless 802.11b. As far as I know this is correct. I have tried three other distro's and this one has gotten the closest to working so far.
