I have just updated KDENetwork to this level and now my F10 doesn't find any wifi connection. By the way, I have been working with F10 for some months without any problem on wlan.

I installed F10 today. From live-usb wlan worked fine, but after installing it doesn't find any networks. I tried to google this problem, but everybody says wifi works out of the box. Not for me.
Solved: I disappled wireless networking and appled it again. It found all networks.
I have installed Fedora 12 on my laptop.Installing my Broadcom BCM 4312 wireless drivers works just fine, but after a reboot I have to reinstall them. modprobe wl, modprobe wlan0 etc doesn't work either. I need to reinstall them every time I reboot.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhy doesn't encrypted WLAN communication work for me? I've got an HP Probook 6555b with Ubuntu 11.04 32-bit. When I set my WLAN router to unencrypted I'm able to connect. But if I choose WPA-PSK-TKIP or WPA2-AES or WPA-PSK & WPA2-PSK I can't connect. Ubuntu prompts me to enter my encryption key. I enter it. It runs for a while and then prompts me again. The little icon at the top right of the screen next to the speaker symbol is where I can see it trying to connect.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI would like to try out fc10 on an old, k6-2 pc. Last night I tried to download the dvd, but firefox 'completed' the download with only 1.2/~3xg, and of course it didn't work.
I am trying a test net installation in VirtualBox, so far so good.
However, I would rather have a more complete installation on hand and I'm looking at the full install cd's --there are 6 of them.

Are all 6 required for a minimal install, or could I get by with one (or two, etc)? For example, with debian installation cds you can use just the first one -- the rest are just a complete set of packages for everything +kitchen sink.
I'm bonding the two NICs on my FC10 server to create a bonded LAG between it and my Cisco Catalyst switch, but during kernel init, the system always give me a notice that "bond0 doesn't appear to exist" so it skips it.Once I log in, I can always open Network Manager and the bond0 interface goes from "Inactive" to "Active" and bond0 immediately works, and I can restart the appropriate network services and everything is fine. But any idea why this bonding wouldn't be initializing during boot up? The ports on the Cisco are configured for hard set speed and duplex and portfast is turned off on them.Is there a guide for best practices for creating LAGs (bonded interfaces) between FC10 and Cisco switches?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my x86_64 system from FC8 to FC10 using Pre-Upgrade. (related blog link) It appears that the upgrade process installed a steaming pile of i386 packages that are duplicates of existing x86_64 packages. I now get update errors because of this package clash. I have searched the fora and the most progress I've been able to make so far is: I apparently had 8 unfinished yum transactions so I did yum-complete-transaction 8 times and have no more incomplete transactions.
The output of package-cleanup --dupes is not very helpful:

I'm currently running FC9 and I have no problem with my network connection. Now I just installed FC10 on another partition too try it out, but I don't seem to get it work. I disabled the NetworkManager (like in FC9) and enabled the Network. I'm using static IP, when in go in Network Configuration/Ethernet Device/General, the subnet mask is always taking the address of the Default gateway address when I press OK.
my subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, and my gateway is 192.168.1.1, but after I press ok they both go back to 192.168.1.1
I'm having trouble getting my wifi devices to work on my 128bit WEP network. I have a new Thinkpad T400, with an internal Intel PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN. I also have some cardbus cards: a Lucent ORiNOCO Gold, a Linksys Wireless-G, and a TRENDnet TEW-421PC. I have them set up as interfaces eth2, eth1, and eth3. (The TRENDnet isn't recognised as a network card at all, so no interface for it.) I have installed the latest firmware for the Linksys card.
The /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-* files are virtually identical for all of them, differing only in the HWADDR and DEVICE lines. So here's the behaviour:
1. The Lucent card comes up just fine.
2. The internal 5100AGN and the Linksys cards won't come up, and watching with iwconfig shows that they're either associated with my AP OR they've got an encryption key set -- but not both.
3. When trying to bring up the 5100AGN, I get the following messages:
iwlagn: index 0 not used in uCode key table
iwlagn: index 3 not used in uCode key table
/var/log/messages shows DHCPDISCOVER requests being sent, but they're bound to fail since the association with the AP with WEP isn't being completed. And yes, the ifcfg-* files really *are* identical except for the DEVICE and HWADDR lines. The /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules file correctly maps the interfaces to the MAC addresses. So why does my antique ORiNOCO card work and thew newer ones fail? How can I track down what's being done wrong/not being done?

I am trying to boot kubutu from FC10's grub. FC10 is in MBR, installed kubuntu without grub. Is that a problem for me now? I mean, should I need to install kubutu grub in order to boot from FC10 grub? I tried with these methods but nothing works:

recently I risked a look to the Linux world and I'm happy so far, but now I've got a Problem, I'm unable to solve by myself. I installed Mint (Julia) on my old Laptop to test Linux. The Laptop has a very old PCMCIA WLAN Card with a Realtek rtl8180 chipset. Everything seems to run perfectly so far with one exception: the WLAN doesn't find any Network to connect although the card and the driver seem to be installed correctly.

I have no idea how to install it. I'm working in Uzbekistan as a volunteer and Internet speed is much slower than everybody expected. This site is using proxy. If ant work only under high speed and reliable internet, what should I do? There is no way to install RED5 without internet? Or my java environments are wrong?
I have a Broadcom B4312(I believe) wireless card and installed the drivers for it, but under the Wireless tab in Network Connections, it doesn't show "wlan0" or anything similar to "eth0"(which it shows under "Wired"). I ran iwconfig and this is what I got:

I have programs that work in FC10 and FC12, but when I run them on FC11, i get behaviour that is very similar to a deadlock. They don't crash or anything. It just seems that all program output stops at one point and never resumes. I am wondering if FC11 has any known threading issues that one may need to know about before trying to use it to run their software from FC10 or FC12. Maybe something in the way that threading is handled differently from FC10 or FC12 that is not necessarily a problem, but just needs to be kept in mind when writing code for FC11.

Different matter with studio. The thing I notice in network connections is, it doesn't want to retain my pass phrase, if I go back into properties the phrase is blank. As far as I can tell the wireless card has been reconcognized and is communicating with router.
My system is: asus p5ql-vm epu, intel core2 duo 2.8 e7400, 4gb 1067 ddr2 ram, belkin f5d7050 v4000, edimax router.

I just installed 9.10 on a brand new Dell Vostro 1520. The WLAN card does NOT work out of the box.
Here is what you have to do.
After install and rebooting insert the live CD
Go to software sources (system > software sources)and check the "officially supported restricted copyright" box
You are then asked to update the available software list, do so.
You will receive an error message since you are not (yet) connected to the internet and all the other repositories are not available.
Now you should be notified that restricted drivers are available, if not you can go to system > hardware. Anyway, now you should be able to activate the Broadcom STA driver. After rebooting you can connect to available wireless networks.
Alternative (in case you are not asked, which happened to me on another Vostro system) system>administration>syaptic package manager
Search for broadcom
Mark b43-fwcutter and bcmwl-kernel-sources for installation
Reboot (who said there is no rebooting required in linux)
The adapter should be up and running ...
I have a Dell WLAN 1397 Half Minicard, 802.11 b/g card in my laptop, and I can't seem to get ubuntu to work with it. I tried this method:
1. Synaptic Pack Manager
2. Check "Install from Boot Disc"
3. Reload
4. Install and apply bcmwl-kernel-source
5. Reboot
This didn't work for me, so I tried entering sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source and that also didn't work. Another thing I tried is formatting my Ubuntu partition and reinstalling, and retrying both of those methods. The ethernet port does work, however.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Samsung N130 with a Realtek 8192 wifi card (possibly 8192e, I'm not sure) and I am trying to run Fedora 12 on it. I used to run Ubuntu until trying their latest beta and realizing it's not very good, so I looked for something else. Ubuntu was at least easy to get the wifi working with just a few quick commands that were written out, word for word, in order, on the Ubuntu forums. I tried openSUSE on here and it didn't have wifi working out of the box either but people on their forums refused to give me actual instructions and just kept bumping me from thread to thread with people giving vague advice or else just telling me I was looking in the wrong place. I'm hoping that someone can give me clear and detailed instructions on how to get this wifi card working. Keep in mind that I am coming from Ubuntu and so I'm not super comfortable in CLI, if I need to do some CL stuff I will need clear and detailed instructions on how to do that.

Struggled a little to get Broadcom driver working with my Dell laptop. But I am at a point where if I manually type 'modprobe b43' the wireless works. If I reboot, it doesn't work automatically and I have to 'modprobe b43' again. Any ideas what I am missing here?I can't seem to figure out how to get this to work automatically. View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my x86_64 system from FC8-FC10 using Pre-Upgrade, and here I got some help fixing all the package conflicts that resulted. Following the first reboot after this massive package update, it appears DNS doesn't work in some apps.
I could ping www.yahoo.com, and nslookup www.yahoo.com resolved the name, but firefox and links couldn't. Typing the ip addr that nslookup gives for www.yahoo.com works fine in both firefox and links. Something's obviously wrong with DNS.
I found a workaround for Firefox which is to browse to about:config and set network.dns.disableipv6 = true. Firefox started resolving names after that.
But then I noticed yum is DNS incapable as well. I don't know how to fix it. Here's what I get:

The machine in question has a static ip addr, and I have static nameserver addrs in /etc/resolv.conf, corresponding to the static settings provided by my isp.
I cannot get static addresses to work on eth0 and eth1. eth0 seems to use DHCP while eth1 uses the static information. Sometimes the static info is used but the interfaces get the addresses reversed.
