Ubuntu Networking :: WG111v3 Hardware Not Detected

Jun 18, 2011

I'm trying to install my WG111v3 usb wireless adapter on Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS 32 bit. I found the .inf for it and installed it with ndiswrapper ("Windows Wireless Drivers"). It says that the driver is installed but "Hardware present: No".

When I type 'iwconfig' I get:
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.

I'm running Ubuntu through VM VirtualBox. I'm not connected to ethernet (windows recognizes my adapter) but I still have internet access in ubuntu.

When I type 'iwlist scan' I get:

lo Interface doesn't support scanning.
eth0 Interface doesn't support scanning.

When I try installing the usb drivers for my motherboard through the same method of installing the .inf with ndiswrapper, I get the same "Hardware present: No".

Ubuntu Networking :: Wg111v3 Constantly Droping Out (9.04,9.10,10.04)?

Apr 15, 2010

I am running 10.04 beta right now, on a hp a6740in , I have wireless usb adapter WG111v3 with me for connecting to my home network , It works perfect in windows but i am trying to get working it with Ubuntu since the past year. In 10.04 beta , It MAY connects for sometime and then drops out, trying to connect again and again, asking me to review the password each time.

I have also filed a bug about the same some 6-7 months month ago, but the ubuntu community seems busy with many other things. So i decided finally posting on the forum again , hoping to get a working solution this time(previous was when jaunty launched) This is the only thing that keeps me away from using ubuntu for my general day work, I have already searched through ubuntu forums but always end up with ndiswrapper thing which doesnt works.

Networking :: Ubuntu Studio 9.10 And WG111v3 Won't Work / Solve This?

Mar 25, 2010

I'm a total NOOB and I just finished a dual boot Ubunutu Studio 9.10 64bit/Windows 7 x64 install on a brand new i7 PC using a WD10EARS hard drive (with the new Advanced Format) and I gave myself top marks for getting by the mammoth amount of obstacles to accomplish what I have so far.

Item of note: you can NOT do a complete install with Ubuntu Studio 9.10 using a wireless device. The installer ONLY recognizes motherboard ethernet ports. No worries, I moved it to the office and the LAN line and got a complete install. I am using this in my living room though as a Media PC with MythTV and the distance requires me to use WIRELESS.

After a successful install, I was unable to get my brand new, out of box Netgear WG111v3 to establish a successful connection and I need your help. Pardon the length of this post, I will try to organize it as best as I can but I have done a LOT of troubleshooting before posting here. Here's what I did so far:

1. Tested Wireless in Win7 on same PC. Works GREAT! Rebooted, went into Ubuntu Studio 9.10 and got no joy.
2. This page says the WG111v3 works out of box with Karmic and I can state with 100% certainty it does NOT.
3. Went to this page (which is THE best how to out there) and followed instructions. I discovered a bug in wpa_passphrase immediately. I use a very complex passphrase using !#$&@ characters in the mix. wpa_passphrase dies with various errors when it sees these characters because it thinks they're command items rather than part of the text in my key. Try it yourself. Create any long text string with those characters and input it to wpa_passphrase. It dies. Works fine with regular letters/numbers. I had to use this page to get the HEX value for my passphrase so I could complete my interfaces file. On a hunch, I changed my passphrase on the router to be a simple 10 letter word all in lower case. wpa_passphrase changed that to HEX fine, updated interfaces file, rebooted router and PC and got nothing. So it's NOT the passphrase.
4. Went to this page, which again states it works out of box but doesn't and tried all the help there. NO JOY.
5. Tried here too. The help there is good when combined with #2 above but still nothing.
6. Went to unsupported versions of Ubuntu to try some old school tricks. Got nothing.
7. Found this site and it has EXACTLY my problem! I always end up with "No working leases in persistent database - sleeping." when it tries to get an IP address from the router. As you can see, that user found no fix either.
8. I turned off ALL security on the router and left it wide open, updated my interfaces file appropriately, rebooted everything and it still couldn't connect?

Networking :: Netgear WG111v3 - Pingable But Not Connected?

Nov 3, 2010

I have installed a Netgear WG111v3 wireless USB networking adapter on an OpenSUSE 11.3 system. I'm using ndiswrapper to run the Windows driver. Using the "Network Settings" GNOME applet (says "Network Settings - YaST" in the title bar) it shows that I have the adapter installed as wlan0, but it's not connected. However, if I go to the "Network Tools" applet (says "Devices - Network Tools" in the title bar) and select "Wireless Interface (wlan0)" from the drop-down, it says that I have an IPv4 address of 192.168.1.104. This is a plausible address that my router could have served. However, I cannot use the network interface from the box itself.

Ubuntu Networking :: WiMAX USB Is Not Detected?

Mar 2, 2011

Recently I bought a USB modem SEOWON SWU-3120. According to the manufacturer, Linux is supported, but ubuntu doesn't detect it Both "usb-modemswitch-data" and "usb-modeswitch" packages are installed (I use GSM and CDMA modems without any problem). When I try to add a new broadband network I have only two choices: GSM and CDMA networks. WiMAX doesn't appear. Looks like Ubunto 10.10 "doesn't know" about the existence of the WiMAX technology. I sent some e-mails to the manufacturer but they never answered.

I friend of mine informed me to try the following commands:
sudo lshw -C network

Ubuntu Networking :: Network Card Not Detected

Jun 16, 2010

I'm in serious need of some help. The network adapter on the motherboard of my main machine apparently failed about noon today. This machine serves as the firewall and router for my home office LAN, and so it has two network adapters, the second being a PCI card installed in the only PCI slot of the mobo. The mobo's adapter served the WAN while the PCI card serves the LAN.Since the mobo has only one PCI slot, none of the other PCI cards I have on hand could be used. Instead, I pulled an unused PCI-e dialup modem card from the machine, and bought a PCI express gigabit card to put in its place.

The problem is that the machine (running Hardy 8.04.4 LTS) does not recognize the new card at all. Running lspci shows only the old PCI card that serves the LAN. Similarly, running "sudo lshw" shows only the old PCI card together with a virtual adapter that's part of my VirtualBox installation on that system.I then dual-booted into Vista Home and attempted to install the new card there, using the CD that came with it. Vista detected the card and asked for the disk, but then was unable to find any drivers on the disk! The box says the card is from Star Tech, and the instruction sheet says its model is ST1000SPEX.If anyone can point me to the correct module to add to the startup list and/or remove from the blacklist, that may get me going again.

Ubuntu Networking :: Mifi 2352 Not Detected?

Aug 1, 2010

I'm a ubuntu linux 10.04 LTS user with a problem. i have been using a vodafone 3G card in South Africa and it has been working correctly. I have used it since Ubuntu 9 and it was correctly detected all the time, so that's great.

But then I got myself a mifi 2352 device (for those who do not know, it is a device that shares a mobile 3G connection to at most 5 users using wifi. it also works in usb mode, like a normal 3G card when you plug it on computer. You can just google the device for more info.

My problem is when i plug in the device through the usb, Ubuntu does not detect, which is very frustrating. I've tried a lot of things, including installing "vodafone-mobile-connect_2.25.01-1_all" with no success.

Is there any reasobn why the mifi 2352 is not detected by Ubuntu?

Ubuntu Networking :: 3G Dongle Switched But Not Detected?

Nov 11, 2010

a few weeks back I got an Indian Reliance 3g dongle. I installed usb-modeswitch, plugged in and it seemed to work brilliantly in Ubuntu 10.04.The problem was it was dropping the connection every ten minutes. The logs had the error message "Terminating on signal 15".I had to unplug the dongle and then it would connect again.x the problem, I tried installing first Sakis3G and then Betawine, both of which were reported by some users to haved. Sakis said "the device did not report GSM capabilities"d no good.Installing Betawine was apparently a bad idea, as after that the dongle ceased to work with Network Manager and Betawine itself was useless. Uninstalling Betawine and re-installing usb-modeswitch did no good. Now, when I plug in the dongle, the logs say:Quote:
