Ubuntu Networking :: Wifi Detected But Not Connecting?
Apr 1, 2010
I just installed ubuntu 9.10 in my freinds laptop and it has a realtek 81878 wireless card...it detects the wireless networks but when i connect it just keeps on asking for the authentication key again and again.
I have ubuntu 11.04 installed. I have a D-link USB Wireless Adapter. Ubuntu detected it and it worked fine. I have a Beetel 450TC1 Router which broadcasts my internet connection. Ubuntu recognizes it, and keeps on trying to connect. It asks me for Authentication again and again.( Don't tell me to check the password again, it does work on everything else )And its not the router problem also, as I tried broadcasting through a laptop I have, Ubuntu again detected but couldn't connect and kept asking me for Authentication
just installed ubuntu 10.04 and the wifi networks are not detected as in 9.10.In 9.10 installing bcm-wl helped me.. but here the pacakage does not even install succesfully....i have installed b43..
I just installed ubuntu (latest version). Everything worked except when i plug the wifi adapter to the computer nothing happens... It wont show up for wireless network... What do i do? This adapter works great on xp, and its a ralink wifi adapter. I dont know which model version i have though because i bought it new on ebay and it never said model info... I also have a netgear wg111t, how would i get this to work as well?
I've happened across a wireless router that has a gateway address of 192.168.0.1 and allots IPs from 192.168.0.64-255. My laptop wouldn't connect to it automatically, so I was playing around and found that it needed 0.x instead of 1.x. I thought the network manager on ubuntu would have figured that out?! Now its a separate story that the router happens to have no admin password
I updated successfully to 10.04 via wireless, then I downloadsynthesizer via wireless. The next day, today that is, can't get wireless to work. It keeps prompting mor the passphrase, I enter everything correctly, all the other computers in the house have no problem.
I am working with ubuntu (gnome) 10.10 maverick 64 bit on a HP pavilion 2713ca. I have installed the Broadcom sta driver for a BCM4328 wifi driver. After setting wpa security with my password, the wifi network worked for many weeks. However, in the last few days it does not connect no more. I have tried to reinstall SSID. And I have checked to see if eth1 was still there:
root@max-HP-Pavilion-dv2700-Notebook-PC:/home/max# iwconfig lo no wireless extensions. eth0 no wireless extensions. eth1 IEEE 802.11abgn ESSID:"" Mode:Managed Frequency:2.412 GHz Access Point: Not-Associated Bit Rate:14 Mb/s Tx-Powerff Retry min limit:7 RTS thrff Fragment thrff Encryption keyff Power Managementff Link Quality=5/5 Signal level=0 dBm Noise level=0 dBm Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0 Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
I'm using a HP mini netbook, and I recently installed Ubuntu on it. I updated and did the whole proprietary drivers activation and it now scans and sees networks but I am having trouble actually using them now. It says that it is connected to a wireless network but it never loads any pages.
im using minimal ubuntu 10.04 and im having trouble connecting to wifi using the terminal. the wifi worked perfectly on the desktop version. i followed this guide [URL] and looks like then i used '/etc/init.d/networking restart' and get this now it seems ive disabled wlan0 as $ sudo lshw -C shows
i tried to enable it again by using 'sudo ifup wlan0' but i get a few errors i think the 2nd errors may be because i tried to download another driver for the wireless using 'wget [URL] and then 'dpkg -i rt3090-dkms_2.3.1.3-0ubuntu0~ppa1_all.deb'
I just installed Fedora 14 i386, and Fedora can see the wireless network just fine. I try to connect and nothing happens. It asks for the PSK constantly (yes, I promise I'm entering it correctly), even after I enter it correctly (I guarantee). I've searched around here a bit, but due to my limited knowledge in linux system I can't figure it out
1. Code: lsusb Bus 002 Device 002: ID 1737:0071 Linksys WUSB600N Dual-Band Wireless-N USB Network Adapter
2. Code: iwconfig lo no wireless extensions. [Code]....
I am a newbie trying to setup wifi using 9.10 on a compaq nx9010 . The driver is activated for the broadcom 4320 rev 2 chipset. the wifi light is on.I can connect to my neighbors's unsecured network, but not mine which is using personal WPA2 security.
I am using a lynksys Wireless-N Broadband Router WRT160Nv2 I have installed WICD and removed the gnome network manager WICD tries to validate authentication which fails. then it tries to obtain an ip address which fails. finally it says: CONNECTION FAILED: UNABLE TO GET IP ADDRESS". meanwhile it is showing the wireless network at 100% signal.
last nite tried changing wifi channel, changing to WEP, installed and tried WPASUPPLICANT and WPA_GUI. Unfortunately , nothing worked. The wifi controller was able to assosciate with the network but could not authenticate. I'm wondering if the passphrase that I type in on the computer is somehow being turned into a hexidecimal or something so that it does not match what the router has as the pass phrase.
Running 9.10 Ubuntu on my laptop. It connects fine to regular access poitns, but for some reason it won't connect to my android wifi adhoc sharing. I have it as dual boot with Windows and windows connects to it perfectly. From Ubuntu 9.10 it tries to connect... then just disconnects. Would be killer to be able to use it with my adhoc wifi sharing! I prefer my Ubuntu boot, rather than my windows one
I am connecting from my WinXP laptop to my Ubuntu Server desktop using PUTTY. The laptop is using Wifi and the desktop is on a wire. I have a D-Link DI-524 wireless router. My session works fine for a while, and then freezes, sometimes after only a few seconds, and sometimes after many minutes. The same thing happens when I use VMWare Server Console to connect from the laptop to the desktop's virtual machines. Other connections between these machines under this setup (RDP, samba, SVN) do not experience problems. I usually do not experience problems establishing the SSH and VMWare connections.I have ended up using Windows Remote Desktop to connect to a Windows XP virtual machine on the desktop, and opening a PUTTY session on that machine. That's a nice workaround, but it makes it so that I have to have that VM running in order to have a reliable SSH session to the box
I've noticed that switching to Ubuntu about 6 months ago has made it noticeably more difficult to use the free wifi at my school. When I had Windows 7 on the same laptop, it was much easier to establish and maintain a connection. I know it's not the hardware. My question is: is there some security setting that makes it difficult to use public wifi on Ubuntu? Also, I don't have this problem at home on my WPA2 home wifi network.
I'm a novice using Ubuntu 10.1 on an Asus EeePC. For several days, my computer has refused to connect to the office wifi, though it's had no trouble doing this in the past. It recognizes the signal, and the wifi icon keeps indicating that it's in the process of connecting, but the process never completes. Every few minutes I'll be asked to re-enter the password. Eventually it gives up.
I'm not sure if this problem extends to other wifi networks or just the one at my office.
I have just installed the last FC distro, and everything works good, except the wireless network.I have a Linksys N-Ultra WirelessN USB wifi card, model WUSB600N.It uses the rt2x00 driver, concretely the rt2870 driver (at least, thats the driver included in the original device drivers CD).Right now, the problem is that i don't know how to make my Fedora 12 to enable and/or connect to internet.
dmesg | tail usb 1-3: Manufacturer: Cisco-Linksys LLC usb 1-3: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
I have just installed Fedora 14 on my desktop machine and have just discovered that it can't detect my WiFi card. The card is an Edimax EW-7711In which the makers say will run with Linux. I know that the card works fine with Ubuntu because my brother uses the same card in his Ubuntu machine but he is away until after Christmas so I don't know what he did to make it work other than I know he used ndiswrapper and the Windows drivers that were supplied with the card. I have looked for ndiswrapper in the Fedora repositories but it doesn't appear to be there.
I am using Ubuntu 11.04 desktop. I a, using my internet through wifi and it was working fine but suddenly it start strange activities... like when I restart ubuntu it work for few clicks but then suddenly stopp even wifi is showing connected but I cant use internet.
I have a problem with my BROADCOM BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN... I made a clean installation of Maverick Meerkat and everything runs perfect except the card drivers... then I investigated almost a week on the net and finally the problem was solved (I made the installation of some drivers on Synaptics tool, then I wrote some codes on the Terminal to activate the light to turn it blue and the Wi-Fi IS ON AND WORKS!).
I thought everything was ok, but when I restarted the laptop, the wifi conections aren't able to be detected so I must re-install the card driver to get it active again :S. I really don't know why the card drivers works only when I install them, because restarting the system make them simply don't work.
I read something about changing my user's state (it was 'personalized') to 'administrator', but nothing happened.I searched on Ubuntu's web but nothing works. It's a Compaq Presario V3000.
I often connects my laptop (Asus EEE) to my HTC desire hd with the wifi hotspot. But this doesn't work since yesterday when I upgraded to 11.04. When I connect the laptop to the phone the screen on the laptop goes black with a lot of scrolling text then it freezes.
This worked out of the box without any problems with 10.10.
I've recently salvaged a computer I found gathering dust in the basement and decided I'll have it running on Fedora (I have a summer studentship coming up that needs Linux use so I thought I'd best start learning!). Following a clean install, Fedora can see the wireless network just fine. I try to connect and nothing happens. Half of the time it will ask for the PSK (yes, I promise I'm entering it correctly) and the other half of the time it will just stop. When it does ask for the PSK I enter it (correctly) and it will ask me again... and again.

moved to Fedora 11 but can't figure out how to get my wireless working. I have the broadcom driver installed and the Network Manager Applet shows the available wireless networks, but when I click on them they just don't connect.I get the following output on lspci regarding the wireless adapter:03:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11a/b/g (rev 02)
I have just started to work on Ubuntu (Ubuntu 10.4 LTS) and I am having some problems to get a WUSB600N vers. 2 802.11n adapter working. I have followed the procedure described at [URL] . The compilation has been successful and I can see the kernel loaded an the module detected:
Code:
adrien@ubuntu:/$ lsmod | grep rt3572 rt3572sta 612272 1 adrien@ubuntu:/$ lsusb Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
[code]....
The wireless adapter is detected by the system and it can scan the neighboring APs (cf. below with MAC address made unreadable):
I was running 9.10 in LiveCD mode and was unable to get online. Went to System>Administration>Hardware Drives and found "Broadcom STA wireless driver". Cool. So I went ahead and installed 9.10 (dual boot with Vista), repeated above steps but found no "Broadcom STA wireless driver" option, in fact no proprietary drivers. So I still cannot connect to the Internet, and I don't know where to go from here. (Note: I installed 9.10 side by side with Vista: good? bad?)
I've installed Ubuntu 10.10 and everything went OK. It also found Wireless Networks. I am connecting to the same I do on Windows 7(yes dual boot). It asks for WEP, I put it and says Connection Established. But, when I open up Firefox to navigate to Google, it waits for 20 seconds and after that it pops an error that it couldn't establish a connection.
I am having a bit of a problem connecting to a dynamic WEP WiFi network.
Code: Apr 15 11:39:31 MyComputer NetworkManager[943]: <info> Activation (wlan0/wireless): access point 'MyUniversityWifiSSID' has security, but secrets are required. Apr 15 11:39:31 MyComputer wpa_supplicant[1002]: CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED - Disconnect event - remove keys
[Code]....
I have googeled that specific error about the WEP line, and it *was* a bug at one time, but according to the bug tracker, it has been fixed. Not so, me thinks.
So, does the specific error above look familiar and does anybody know of a way to fix it?
I'm having a problem with my wifi card: it is not detected by the network manager. I have tried going to the Hardware Drivers utility, but it doesn't find any proprietary hardware.I really am at a loss as to how to make Lucid "start over" with the wifi detection.I have installed Lucid using an existing /home, which was under 8.10. Maybe i just need to wipe out some configuration files to start afresh?
