Ubuntu Networking :: Wg111v3 Constantly Droping Out (9.04,9.10,10.04)?

Apr 15, 2010

I am running 10.04 beta right now, on a hp a6740in , I have wireless usb adapter WG111v3 with me for connecting to my home network , It works perfect in windows but i am trying to get working it with Ubuntu since the past year. In 10.04 beta , It MAY connects for sometime and then drops out,trying to connect again and again, asking me to review the password each time.

I have also filed a bug about the same some 6-7 months month ago, but the ubuntu community seems busy with many other things. So i decided finally posting on the forum again , hoping to get a working solution this time(previous was when jaunty launched) This is the only thing that keeps me away from using ubuntu for my general day work, I have already searched through ubuntu forums but always end up with ndiswrapper thing which doesnt works.

Ubuntu Networking :: WG111v3 Hardware Not Detected

Jun 18, 2011

I'm trying to install my WG111v3 usb wireless adapter on Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS 32 bit. I found the .inf for it and installed it with ndiswrapper ("Windows Wireless Drivers"). It says that the driver is installed but "Hardware present: No".

When I type 'iwconfig' I get:
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.

I'm running Ubuntu through VM VirtualBox. I'm not connected to ethernet (windows recognizes my adapter) but I still have internet access in ubuntu.

When I type 'iwlist scan' I get:

lo Interface doesn't support scanning.
eth0 Interface doesn't support scanning.

When I try installing the usb drivers for my motherboard through the same method of installing the .inf with ndiswrapper, I get the same "Hardware present: No".

Networking :: Ubuntu Studio 9.10 And WG111v3 Won't Work / Solve This?

Mar 25, 2010

I'm a total NOOB and I just finished a dual boot Ubunutu Studio 9.10 64bit/Windows 7 x64 install on a brand new i7 PC using a WD10EARS hard drive (with the new Advanced Format) and I gave myself top marks for getting by the mammoth amount of obstacles to accomplish what I have so far.

Item of note: you can NOT do a complete install with Ubuntu Studio 9.10 using a wireless device. The installer ONLY recognizes motherboard ethernet ports. No worries, I moved it to the office and the LAN line and got a complete install. I am using this in my living room though as a Media PC with MythTV and the distance requires me to use WIRELESS.

After a successful install, I was unable to get my brand new, out of box Netgear WG111v3 to establish a successful connection and I need your help. Pardon the length of this post, I will try to organize it as best as I can but I have done a LOT of troubleshooting before posting here. Here's what I did so far:

1. Tested Wireless in Win7 on same PC. Works GREAT! Rebooted, went into Ubuntu Studio 9.10 and got no joy.
2. This page says the WG111v3 works out of box with Karmic and I can state with 100% certainty it does NOT.
3. Went to this page (which is THE best how to out there) and followed instructions. I discovered a bug in wpa_passphrase immediately. I use a very complex passphrase using !#$&@ characters in the mix. wpa_passphrase dies with various errors when it sees these characters because it thinks they're command items rather than part of the text in my key. Try it yourself. Create any long text string with those characters and input it to wpa_passphrase. It dies. Works fine with regular letters/numbers. I had to use this page to get the HEX value for my passphrase so I could complete my interfaces file. On a hunch, I changed my passphrase on the router to be a simple 10 letter word all in lower case. wpa_passphrase changed that to HEX fine, updated interfaces file, rebooted router and PC and got nothing. So it's NOT the passphrase.
4. Went to this page, which again states it works out of box but doesn't and tried all the help there. NO JOY.
5. Tried here too. The help there is good when combined with #2 above but still nothing.
6. Went to unsupported versions of Ubuntu to try some old school tricks. Got nothing.
7. Found this site and it has EXACTLY my problem! I always end up with "No working leases in persistent database - sleeping." when it tries to get an IP address from the router. As you can see, that user found no fix either.
8. I turned off ALL security on the router and left it wide open, updated my interfaces file appropriately, rebooted everything and it still couldn't connect?

Networking :: Netgear WG111v3 - Pingable But Not Connected?

Nov 3, 2010

I have installed a Netgear WG111v3 wireless USB networking adapter on an OpenSUSE 11.3 system. I'm using ndiswrapper to run the Windows driver. Using the "Network Settings" GNOME applet (says "Network Settings - YaST" in the title bar) it shows that I have the adapter installed as wlan0, but it's not connected. However, if I go to the "Network Tools" applet (says "Devices - Network Tools" in the title bar) and select "Wireless Interface (wlan0)" from the drop-down, it says that I have an IPv4 address of 192.168.1.104. This is a plausible address that my router could have served. However, I cannot use the network interface from the box itself.

Slackware :: 64 13 - Intel Sound - Rapidly Droping Off

Feb 9, 2010

I have been using Slackware64 newly installed to an external USB drive to get used to KDE4 and whatnot as I currently run Slackware 12.0. It's been very good and I now feel a little alienated when I reboot to Slackware 12 and KDE 3. There is an ongoing problem though. My machine has a front mounted jack socket for headphones which cuts off the feed to my external speakers as it should. When ever I plug in my headphones the volume coming through them rapidly drops off to nothing, If I then unplug them no sound comes back out through the external speakers. It could be that they are being reinstated when I unplug the headphones but the sound level has dropped to zero - as it has in the headphones. The machine has an on board Intel sound device reported like this :

[Code]....

This is a real pain and the only solution seems to be to reboot. This not only happens when in KDE but also if I run "speaker-test" as a test from the CLI as well.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Constantly Disconnects?

Oct 4, 2010

I'm using an Acer Aspire One d250 running Netubuntu 10.04. The wireless connection to my router fails at random intervals and spends most of it's time trying to reconnect. It will occasionally ask me to input the password to the network, which is already entered in the dialog box, and clicking "connect" doesn't seem to make any difference. Also, when it is disconnected from the network, none of the other computers in the house, wired or wireless, are having any problems. If there is any more information I could provide,

I made a script to restart ndiswrapper but I have to do it every 2 or 3 min during a file transfer. I can't play online games at all. No ssh sessions for more than a few min... so on and so forth. None of these issues happen in Windows 7 but when it was first installed it had to do something with dhcp before it would stay connected. Windows wouldn't tell me what was going on though. code...

Ubuntu Networking :: Download Speeds Drop Constantly

Mar 12, 2010

I am running Ubuntu 9.10 on a Dell inspiron 1520 with intel 3945abg wireless card. I am fairly new to linux and just installed it earlier in the day. Everything so far has been easy to setup and get running as well as the networking or so i though...

I can connect to my network and browse we pages just fine. However, when I download a file the speed starts high, drops down to around 50kbps and then works its way back up to around 1.3 mbps before dropping right back down. I tested a file on megaupload and it seems to bounce between 50kbps and 1.5mbps nonstop.

The driver i believe is the iwl3945 if that is the default driver. I have tried disabling ipv6 and that didnt seem to change anything. I've looked around on google and the forums and havent been able to find anything on how to fix this.

Ubuntu Networking :: Router And The Modem Recognize Each Other But The Connection Drops Constantly

Sep 30, 2010

I'm running Lucid xubuntu. i have a netgear WG111v3 usb wireless card. The router and the modem recognize each other,. but the connection drops constantly.Other times it takes many tries to connect. There are 3 windows and one Xbox users in my house, all on the same router. When I spoke with 2 different people at Radio Shack, I was told that the software on the router is Windows based, so the Windows modems get top priority over Linux, hence the dropped signals. I was advised I could do One of three things:

1. Buy another router, one that specifically recognizes every operating system. That way, we all get equal bandwith.
2. Buy an antennae that boosts the signal.
3. Buy a booster for the signal that one cable end plugs into the router,then the device into a power outlet; the other in any power outlet, and then hardwire that to my ethernet card in my computer, so the signal stays constant. This is the output from the terminal:

[Code]....

Based on this information, what would be my best option. I can't run line all the way across the house to my computer; that would take 50-75 feet after winding it's way through the house. I don't use the ethernet card although it's still in the machine. Could it interfere with the signal?

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Light Constantly Blinking On Compaq Presario CQ60 Laptop

May 13, 2010

I have a Compaq Presario CQ60 laptop and have one of those wireless light indicators. For me the light glows orange when the wireless is OFF and blue when the wireless is ON. In Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic) the light was always orange, even if the Wireless was on, but my wireless worked right out of the box so I was grateful for that, but since upgrading to Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid) I've noticed that my wireless light alternates between orange and blue frequently and sometimes flashes madly when wireless activity is occurring.

I was wondering if there is a fix for this as it can get quite annoying, the light sometimes stays blue for a while but will ultimately keep going back to orange and vice-versa, my friend who also has a Compaq Presario CQ61 (Revised model of mine) has his wireless light constantly blinking orange and blue no matter what.The wireless itself works fine, I can connect to any wireless connection and use it without having to install anything else, so it does work out of the box, which again, I'm grateful for.The wireless adapter is a Atheros AR5001 Wireless network adapter. Do I need to install additional packages or drivers to get the wireless adapter to work properly?

Ubuntu Networking :: Lucid RC - Wifi Connectivity Dies After A Minute - Activity Light Flashes Constantly

Apr 28, 2010

I posted this on Launchpad under bug# 569445 and though I'm certain someone in our heroic development community will have a look at it eventually, maybe someone can help me here in the meantime, or at least provide some background info. Maybe a little reassurance that Ubuntu isn't broken for my Wifi is all I need.

Quote:

Binary package hint: wireless-crda I do hope I've picked the right package for this. Investigators, feel free to email me with whatever bash commands you need me to find out more about the hardware. The problem is that wireless in Lucid is dying for me after about a minute or so, and the activity light on my netbook just flashes. The wireless monitor at the top of the screen still thinks it's connected. It's like it's out of sync or something.

This doesn't happen under Win7 on this hardware, nor does it happen to other devices in my house on the network. Also, I wasn't having this problem under Lucid Beta 1 I have an Acer Aspire (Olympic Variant) 1410 Win7 reports the adapter as Intel WiFi Link 1000 BGN The wireless router I'm using is a DLink DIR-628. The connection is OPEN.

Ubuntu :: 11.04 Constantly Crashing?

Apr 30, 2011

I've managed to install the 32bit version on my laptop with little issue, and I'm really liking the Unity interface. There's a few issues around customisation and minor usability quirks, but from my experience with things like KDE4, I'm guessing it's only time. Anyway, I've been having major problems getting the 64bit version running with my Desktop. I have 8Gb of RAM in that, so it's not really an option to use the 32bit version. The Installer crashes constantly, but I was able to upgrade from 10.10 using update manager, but unfortunately Natty is no more stable than it's installer.

While logging in, or shortly after, the machine will crash to a text console displaying a Kernel Panic message. There's also messages indicating a problem with the CPU MCE. I've tried setting various kernel parameters at boot, such as nomce and nomodeset, these have extended the time the machine is up before crashing out, and removed the Kernel panic message, but not the crashes. I'm guessing the MCE messages were unrelated or a symptom in this case.I've done a huge amount of searching, and found no suggestions that I haven't already tried. Running Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit the system is rock solid.

Ubuntu :: Computer Constantly Crashes After Installation?

Jun 14, 2010

We've had a very big problem with our computer chrashing for a while, and I'm not sure if it's Linux Ubuntu that's the problem or not be we'd like some feedback from the experts of this forum. I hope I'm posting this in the right place. So, a while back we had Windows XP on our machine, and it had been running well (as well as XP is capable anyway, ), but for some reason it wouldn't boot XP properly and would only allow us to open it in Safe Mode.

We opened up the computer to take the memory chips out and back in, just in case that would help, and the inside was terribly dusty. Also, we have a loose heatsink, and the chip underneath is filled with dust. Not sure what the chip is I'll try to get some picture of it pretty soon. Anyway, the inside of the machine obviously wasn't too good.

So, we installed Linux Ubuntu LTS 10.04 on it from a CD to try to fix the booting problem, and this worked -- but now, our computer crashes constantly after turning on. It crashes whatever we're doing -- we can do something light, like Google Chrome, or something heavy, like video editing, and have it crash on us. So it doesn't seem to be a problem with the programs or anything -- I'm guessing it's either an issue with the computer itself or an error with the operating system. Sometimes we're lucky and can be on the computer for half-hour to and hour and a half, but it's still really bothersome, and will get in the way of any projects that require saving or recording. I'd guess it crashes around 10-20 times a day.

I included a video of it crashing and what it does just in case that could be of any help. Link: [URL]... The screen goes blank for a moment -- shows oddly colored, fragmented bars in the center of the screen (sometimes red, sometimes silver), shows this text:

Code:
* Speech-dispatcher configured for user sessions
* Starting the Winbind daemo
winbind [ OK
* Starting Common Unix Printing System: cupsd [ OK
* PulseAudio configured for per-user sessions
