I recently finished a mini-itx machine and everything was working great with a fresh Jessie install. I put in a PCIe wifi card and now the computer won't boot. The power LED is on, the PSU fan is spinning, but I get no display output at all and I don't know how far into the boot process the thing even got. I removed the card and the machine boots fine again.
I only have one PCIe slot so it is my only option, I don't have another PCIe card to try, nor do I have another machine to test the wifi card in. The card is brand new, for what it's worth.

I can't connect to the internet as the wifi hasn't worked since I reinstalled Ubuntu 10.10...It might be a hardware problem as this problem occured, when I tried to install Windows 7 but it didn't work on my computer...than I decided to reinstall Ubuntu 10.10, but than the wifi just wasn't working...but it was working before the win 7 installation and during the installation win 7 recognized my wireless connections...and even when I tried installing win 7 AGAIN it still recognized them...but every time I want to install Ubuntu 10.10...wireless just doesn't work.

I'm on 11.04, im on a macbook 6,2 i7. The wifi worked when i booted from cd but now it doesnt work once i installed.
I have an HP DV6 3143se which has a Ralink 3090 wifi card in it.the only thing that doesn't work at the moment is the Wifi. I tried installing the Linux backports module, but the trouble is that sometimes, my home wifi network is shown on the list of available networks and most often, it's not. when the network does show up, and i click on it and enter my WPA2 password, it takes ages to handshake and then it tells me that my password is wrong. the same password works in windows 7 so something's not working.
when i try to disable and re enable wireless network on the network manager applet, i get a Wireless device not ready or Network manager not running message.

i'm running Ubuntu 10.10 32-bit on an Acer Aspire 3050 laptop with an Atheros AR5BMB5 WiFi card.
The problem i'm having is that the hardware switch to turn the WiFi on and off isn't working right. When I hit the switch to turn it off, the light doesn't turn off, and Ubuntu just disconnects from the network and searches for more WiFi networks - it doesn't say that the WiFi has been deactivated, and I don't think it is. When I hit the switch again, it finds my network and connects to it.
The lspci -v | less command gives me the following information for the WiFi:

It lists a different model of card, but it's using what I assume is the correct driver, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I've checked the card itself and it is a AR5BMB5.
I would like to fix it so the switch actually turns the WiFi off instead of just making it search for more networks (I assume it's not actually turning off), and perhaps make the light turn off as it should as well.
The auto connect feature of NetworkManager Applet (version 0.7.997) isn't working on my system. If the WiFi connection dies, Network Manager doesn't detect that the connection has been lost and try to reestablish the connection. I have to manually click on the WiFi hotspot to reestablish the connection. This appears to be the case both while the computer is running and when I first boot it up (i.e. when booting, if the first attempt at establishing a WiFi connection doesn't succeed, Network Manager doesn't retry or try another hotspot).Is this "normal" behavior for Network Manager? If not, does anyone know a fix? Here's some more info about my system:

It doesn't ask for my password and instantly authenticates as root!
if I run the above posted script manually, (cd into the dir and execute it), it works fine and produces the result 1 if positive and 0 if negative.
Is there a reason why the selinux module for nagios just doesn't work? I'm running CentOS release 5.4 (Final) and did "yum install nagios" and now have nagios-3.2.0-1.el5.rf installed. I'm having to create policy after policy after policy, and still haven't reached the end of the rainbow.
I suppose after I run out of selinux violations, I could figure out how to combine all of these modules and post the result, but it seems really, really weird to think that I'm the only person who has ever installed nagios from the repo with SELinux enabled.
I have fairly new requirement for a second monitor. My main display is running fine using nvidia proprietary drivers.I do have a pcie (probably x16) video card sitting around, but my motherboard only has 1 x16 slot (used by my main display), 2 x1 slots and a few pci slots. From memory, the second video card is an ATI card.Questions:

I'm 100% believed that this 3G module is alive, because I used minicom to send AT commands to it, and demonstrated it was alive.

I use iptables firewall (v1.4.1) installed on FC8. I'm trying to limit the inflow traffic for the port 1723 to certain MAC addresses. To experiment with the mac option, I've written the following iptables rule:

I have just started to work on Ubuntu (Ubuntu 10.4 LTS) and I am having some problems to get a WUSB600N vers. 2 802.11n adapter working. I have followed the procedure described at [URL] . The compilation has been successful and I can see the kernel loaded an the module detected:

I installed openSUSE 11.3 under 2 machines, one of them using a Linksys USB wireless N adapter (rt73usb) and another using an Atheros AR5001 Wireless Network Adapter (ath5k). I have a Belkin f5D8236-4 router, with the SSID "linksys". I also have an Ubuntu 10.04 machine which has working wireless internet. I know almost nothing about networking, but from what I can tell, openSUSE 11.3 seems to have trouble with DHCP, specifically setting the dynamic IP address. To try to go about fixing this, I attempted to set a static IP, but I am quite confused by all the settings.
I have tried both the graphical "Network Manager" (KDE, Gnome, and command line versions) and ifup, both with no luck.

Last week used lxde11.3 and no problem connecting. Today I switched to xfce11.3
and the wifi card is registering fine as connected but it doesn't send the key out
apparently to register the connection to the modem so it is fully activated.
I think lxde had a network manager but in xfce here I'm using Yast. What mismatch
do I have here ? How do I start a network manager so the key will connect ?
I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my Powerbook G4 1.5ghz 15", and the ethernet port on the laptop doesn't work. So I can't search for drivers to install.
Is there a way to either tether internet to the laptop using firewire? find the necessary drivers so I can transfer them?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install a Sunix 4018T dual parallel port card on a pc with Mandriva Linux 2010.1: Dealer told me that linux has driver for this card already so I inserted it and turned on my pc. Unfortunately when I try to install my Okidata ML320, cups it's not showing any parallel ports. I try to update all the system with last patches and packages :I tested the card on a pc with windows xp, installed my printer and it works perfectly.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSince my Asus WL-3300 seems to be having trouble, I bought a USB adapter -- a Linksys WUSB54G ver 4. Version 4 was apparently important because it came with a Ralink 2570 chip -- and that's supposed to work with Linux (which is why I chose it).I think it will work because, without loading any drivers, Net Manager can see the local routers (about seven of them). But when I choose mine, though it asks for a WEP key, it never connects. I'm not sure now what driver is loading that *almost* works with it. But I think I may still need to load the driver from: URl...But when you read the page it says that the driver has entered the "Mainline Kernel" -- and I'm wondering if that is why the adaptor almost works.So the questions:
1) Without a driver, should this Ralink 2570 be working at all?
2) How do I find what driver *is* loading?
3) Modprobe doesn't seem to be able to find any rt25x00 module, is this right -- or is there some other name I should be looking for?
iwlink scan, ifconfig, etc., all see the adapter as wlan0.lsusb shows the adapter.I'm going to keep searching, but wrote this in case there is something really simple that I'm overlooking.

On xubuntu I had no problems with connecting on the network but with ubuntu, it says I have good reception but it doesn't connect on the network (rarely it does, but for a very short time). I have another laptop currently running on ubuntu 10.04 and it has no problems at all (however it has an internal usb card).

I have xbmc, a media center shell that runs on ubuntu. I am trying to set up a laptop to run it and be a full time media center. so far it works great, I installed xbmc live, but the only issue is I have a wep2 protected wireless router and the wifi does not connect automatically.
I have it set up and am using wpa_supplicant once those commands are run the wifi works great.I am a novice in linux in general, and can not seem to get this to work on startup, can anyone point me in the right direction on this? I haven't been able to find the xbmc start up script if one exists, I figured adding those lines to it might work,does this sound like a reasonable approach? if anyone knows where that is and how it is defined to be launched on start-up i would appreciate it(I guess this is getting into the general Linux knowledge but still good info)
I have this annoying problem since day one.I am testing out Red Hat RHEL5, everything is fine except DNS look up.If I ping www.google.com, it doesn't work, ping ip address it all works;if I bring up browser, put www.google.com it doesn't work, can't find the name, however, simply put ip address there it works.My DNS seeting seems ok, and the DNS works from Windows box.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an Asrock A330GC, with onboard ethernet, and an Engenius PCI card for wifi.I installed ubuntu server 9.10 no problems, and it picked up my ethernet in the installation with no difficulties.I couldn't get 9.10 to do what i wanted, so I tried installing 8.4 instead. This however didn't pick up any of the drivers, so i couldn't get online.So i reinstalled 9.10, only to find that no couldn't find network in the installation.Absolutely NOTHING has changed, the ethernet cable still plugged in, and if i plug same cable into my laptop, it works fine.Any ideas people?ifconfig doesn't mention any eth0, just lo, with an ip of 127.0.0.1 and amask of 255.0.0.0 which i'm fairly certain means its dead
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to get 9.10 to work with my D Link DWA 125 USB WiFi antenna for days now. I have searched these forums as well as other forums for answers. I have tried all of the suggestions I have come across, some simple, some complex. Nothing works. I have tried ndiswrapper, blacklisting drivers, re-installing, modifying the 2870sta.dat file......nothing works (or maybe I'm doing it wrong...I don't know).
I have a fresh install of 9.10 .Can someone please walk me through this and show me what I'm doing wrong?
