Step1: Scan for wireless network
Step2: Connect to the wireless network of my interest (unencrypted). At this point I am connected to the wireless network.
Step3: Open browser and type some website I am redirected or in some browsers need to click the warning to go to the NAC server and enter my login and paswword.
After successful login I can start browsing the Internet. Please let me know the steps to be followed in Ubuntu(scripts or CLI appreciated since I use Ratpoison).

My laptop has an internal wireless device and a button to turn it on/off, but since it has bad reception I use an external USB wireless adapter. The problem is that if I turn the internal wireless device off using the button, it also turns the USB wireless adapter off.Is there anyway to use the killswitch (the button) only for the internal wireless device? This only started to happen in Ubuntu 10.04.

View 14 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to set my number of desktops to "4" on the KDE control module, it reverts back to having only two. I downloaded and installed the current ATI driver (ati-driver-installer-10-11-x86.x86_64.run) and everything works as it should with compiz, except for desktop cube, because I only have two desktops. I never had a problem while running Ubuntu, just with backtrack 4 r2. By the way, I have it installed and not running on a virtual box.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a pc which has 2 network cards, 1 wifi and 1 ethernet card.
I'm using wifi card to connect to wifi network (internet) and i'm planing to share this wifi/internet connection via ethernet to wireless router (siemens sx763) so i can have internet on my other devices, e.g. mobile phone, laptop.
I am running (K)Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 64bit on a Dell Latitude E6400, WiFi Card Intel 5100. Never had any problems with networking. Up to about 2 weeks ago. I do realize there have been quite a few posts with this network adaptor, but non really described the problem I have here.
What happens is that suddenly the WiFi LED on the computer stops blinking, the WiFi connection gets disrupted, and the device is not recognized anymore when checking ifconfig. Only cold restarting the machine helps then... it will work for a while (between 1 and 20 minutes) and then crash again.
On Windows 7 the card works perfectly fine. With Ubuntu 11.04 in Live CD mode I have the same effects (connection crashes after a while). Also tried booting an older kernel, no success.

I have an old PowerBook G4 that I would like to use as a 'dummy' computer for learning wireless penetration (WEP/WPA attacks) more effectively. I had been using a wireless router, but I gave it away I can use Mac OS X to share an ethernet connection over wifi, but this is _very_ un-configurable. You get two options only, WEP and a key-length. So, I would like to install someway to make this wireless connection more configurable.

View 1 Replies View Relatedfinally got mostly everything fixed on my opensuse 11.3. 11.3 is my only os on my laptop right now and I want to be able to dual boot with backtrack4. I used to have bt3 but it was on a usb loading up with winxp. Anyway, I've downloaded the iso image and after hours of forum reading I figured out how to mount the iso image. Doing so allows me just to look at the files. Is there an install file somewhere I'm missing?
Also, couldn't ever figure out how to partition my drive to make room for bt4. Tried downloading gparted and failed. Tried using the expert partitioner program that came with this system but it won't allow me to create another partition. Couldn't ever find a reason why. Will bt4 allow me to create a partition upon installation? How do I install?
I am working on a set up, and I like to be able to toggle compiz on and off, or toggle dualscreen on and off. The thing is, I also have conky on my desktop as well as a terminal window embedded in my desktop (that requires compiz). So, when I turn comiz off, or resize my desktop, I want to be able to reposition conky/embedded-terminal and the terminals position is relative to my conky position and the size of my virtual desktop.
I can do this all fine, except that to reposition the terminal I need to kill it then reopen it. But if I kill gnome-terminal it kills ALL gnome-terminals instead of just my embedded one. How can I specifically close my embedded one and leave any others untouched? Lets say that the title of my embedded terminal is "trans777"Also, the trans777 titled gnome-terminal will be killed when compiz is not running.
I notice that on DistroWatch, the descriptions include "debian based", "arch based", etc. For the newbie, is there any practical difference between the different bases, or is it a Coke vs Pepsi type question?
Is a distro based on Debian say, easier for a newbie to learn or work with than say one that is FreeBSD based?
I've got some source code that loads and plays WAV files through the OSS drivers (and USB audio). The code works even under 2.6.34. Is there any benefit to rewriting the code using the ALSA system?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was asked to setup 802.1x Port Based Authentication for users connecting to a Managed Cisco Switch. From what I was told, it should work like this:
- User plugs workstation into switch.
- Workstation asks user for radius credentials.
- Workstation is then able to authenticate to the Radius server.
- After workstation is authenticated, the switchport then becomes unrestricted and allows the workstation to communicate on the network.
I recently started to set up a SSH server, I was able to set up a Hamachi based VPN and was able to connect to it on all levels, for about 5 min, after that the server goes into idle mode and is no longer able to connect to that computer via LAN or Hamachi. Not till after I shake the mouse can I connect back in via LAN, and I have to log out and back in of Hamachi to get that to work. Is there a way to stop the Internet shutdown on that computer when it goes into idle mode? SSH servers are more or less useless if it doesn't let me tunnel in when I need to. This is for Ubuntu Server.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI can connect to the Internet. I can not access gmail or yahoo mail. It doesn't matter what browser I use.
If I switch to a wired connection, I can access gmail. Other wireless networks work fine.
MY router is a Belkin N, but it allows me to access other sites. The settings seem pretty vanilla, not different than wireless routers where I can access gmail.
I am unable to make my VPN connection to my university work correctly. Before, it would work some of the time without changing any settings. Now it never works. Unfortunately my institution does not provide support to linux users (outrageous!) so I'm on my own. Here is a link to the configuration instructions for windows and mac users, I've tried to configure mine based on this information but I have not been able to do it.
