Ubuntu Networking :: Edimax WiFi Card Not Working With Karmic

Jan 7, 2010

Finally took the plunge and upgraded my ubuntu studio to karmic from jaunty. I seem to be experiencing a problem many have, being that my wifi card (edimax) which worked on my previous distro is now not working at all. I've done a lot of research and found the problem seems to mainly be with broadcom cards, and have tried a number of things relating to those that have worked for others, with no luck.

My problem seems to be not that the drivers wont activate or anything like that, my problem is that under hardware drivers nothing appears at all. I have no drivers present, where most people are talking of 3. i have not found anyone else with this problem. My problem is compounded in addition by not being about to use a wire connection at all.

Ubuntu Networking :: Atheros 9k WiFi Card Not Working After Suspend?

Jun 25, 2010

I am currently using Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. Although it has worked fine for the past couple of weeks, I have recently encountered a problem with my wireless card. It is an Atheros AR928X card on a Toshiba satellite U405D-S2874 model laptop. Recently, I attempted to put the computer into suspend mode for the first time. The computer failed to wake up, and I performed a hard reboot. After this, everything seems to work except for the wireless card. I am now unable to connect to any wireless network with my laptop, and the wireless manager doesn't seem to be working either.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wifi Card Rtl8172 Not Working When Laptop On Battery?

Feb 24, 2010

I am using a Fujitsu Amilo pi3560 with a Realtek rtl8172 wireless card, and running the latest driver (rtl8192se_linux_2.6.0014.0115.2010). The OS is Ubuntu 9.10.
Everything runs perfectly - when my laptop is connected with the power cord. But when I go battery the wireless disconnects after a few minutes. It then asks for the wpa password, searches for the router, asks again, and so on indefinitely, until I reboot and it all replays once more.

Ubuntu Networking :: Intel WiMAX/WiFi Link 6050 Wireless Card Not Working?

Dec 14, 2010

I'm dual booting windows 7 64 bit and Ubuntu 10.1 64 bit on my Dell Inspiron 11z with an embedded WiMAX/WiFi Link 6050 series wireless card made from Intel. I only use it for wifi, not 3g or wimax. I installed the latest driver from intellinuxwireless.org, iwlwifi-6050-ucode-41.28.5.1, but it still doesn't seem to work. I ran these terminal commands from another thread:

cd Desktop/wlwifi-6050-ucode-9.201.4.1
sudo cp iwlwifi-6050-4.ucode /lib/firmware
sudo chmod 644 /lib/firmware/iwlwifi*

[code]....

After running "sudo rmmod -f iwlagn sudo modprobe iwlagn", I get this read out for my wireless card.

*-network DISABLED
description: Wireless interface
product: WiMAX/WiFi Link 6050 Series
vendor: Intel Corporation

[code]....

In the ubuntu help section it tells me to flip a manual wifi switch to enable it, but pressing my windows wifi button, F2, doesn't appear to do anything while in ubuntu. The only experience I have working with linux is typing some terminal commands on my android phone to root it.

Ubuntu Networking :: Intel 5100 WiFi Card - Dell Latitude E6400 - Suddenly WiFi LED On The Computer Stops Blinking

May 4, 2011

I am running (K)Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 64bit on a Dell Latitude E6400, WiFi Card Intel 5100. Never had any problems with networking. Up to about 2 weeks ago. I do realize there have been quite a few posts with this network adaptor, but non really described the problem I have here.

What happens is that suddenly the WiFi LED on the computer stops blinking, the WiFi connection gets disrupted, and the device is not recognized anymore when checking ifconfig. Only cold restarting the machine helps then... it will work for a while (between 1 and 20 minutes) and then crash again.

On Windows 7 the card works perfectly fine. With Ubuntu 11.04 in Live CD mode I have the same effects (connection crashes after a while). Also tried booting an older kernel, no success.

Debian Hardware :: WiFi Card Not Working

Dec 6, 2014

I have some problems with my WiFi card I'm configuring for Debian Wheezy. I've used it in other computers successfully (It's a USB device), but this box doesn't seem to be able to recognize it or use it properly.

I've identified the card using Code: Select alllsusb with the output Code: Select allBus 001 Device 002: ID 7392:7811 Edimax Technology Co., Ltd EW-7811Un 802.11n Wireless Adapter [Realtek RTL8188CUS]

I've used the Wheezy docs to download the firmware necessary and it apparently is supposed to run fine with this firmware, but nothing is working. There was mention to a GitHub repository of a fixed version of the driver in question, which didn't work either.

Fedora Hardware :: Either Working WiFi Or Sound Card (Not Both)

Jan 20, 2011

With my Compaq CQ62 it seems I can either have a distro provide a working wifi or a working soundcard but not both. I would love to have Linux working properly. Wireless internet works great in Windows 7. The ethernet works perfectly when I plug directly into my router, but pressing the wireless button will not change the light on it from orange to white or do anything else. Yet a simple distro like crunchbang or kubuntu seems to make the wireless work fine.

They just cant make my soundcard work. Being that there is at least some sort of a protocol for installing wireless drivers, I figured I would go with the distro that gives me SOUND since installing a sound driver seems unheard of or impossible. I have a realtek wireless network card in my laptop that Fedora, one of the biggest names in Linux, seems oblivious to even recognize. When I click on the network icon and go to Manage Connections, the Wireless tab is greyed out and cannot be clicked on.

Ubuntu Networking :: USB Wifi Card Not Recognized?

Jul 13, 2010

i just thought the last few days about trying Ubuntu. so i did. i got a nice and fresh copy of Ubuntu Desktop version and installed it, everything worked great except my wireless usb 2.0 card. the only internet connection i have under windows is Wifi and i hoped that my dongle will be recognized by Ubuntu automatically...(naturally, it wasn't the case.)

so my adapter looks exactly like this one here, except for the color, it's white and it has my WISP's name written on it (i got it from them, along with a cd that offers win xp/98/me drivers...)

so even everest sees it's atheros and it's the Atheros AR5523 chipset.

i also have windows 7 64bit drivers if they help...

anyway, i can't get it to work and cannot access the internet any other way when on Ubuntu, so i have to use an already-saved driver..

I know that the card works fine with Ubuntu because my brother uses the same card in his Ubuntu machine but he is away until after Christmas so I don't know what he did to make it work other than I know he used ndiswrapper and the Windows drivers that were supplied with the card. I have looked for ndiswrapper in the Fedora repositories but it doesn't appear to be there.

Ubuntu Networking :: Card Reader Shuts Off WiFi

Aug 27, 2010

This is the issue, and I have had this happen with a few card readers. I have a Alfa Usb Wifi adapter model number AWUS036H using the rtl8187 Chipset. It works fine, unless I plug in my flash card reader directly to the board. If I plug it in to a hub it works fine until I put a card in, I was also having the same issues using a USB Video Capture unit by the name of EASYCAP. This was also happening in XP. Must be some driver conflict of sorts.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wifi Card Recognized No Signal

Jul 25, 2011

I have discovered the world of freewares not long ago and it surprised me! To go a bit further, I have installed Lubuntu 10.4 LTS on an old laptop: HP Pavilion zv5326 with 256 Mo RAM.

Everything works fine except the wifi.

iwconfig returns for wlan0:
IEEE 802.11b ESSID:"Livebox-afe5"
Mode: Managed Access Point: Not-Associated Tx-Power=0 dBm
Retry Long Limit:7 RTS thrff Fragment thrff
Power Managementff

Ifconfig returns nothing for wlan0

From what I understand, my wifi card is recognized so I do not need to install a driver with ndiswrapper, right?

What should I do then? Is there a solution at all?

(Livebox-afe5 is the wifi connection I use with my other laptop.)

When I try to add in the window "network configuration" (from above) some new stuff, I specifying the kind of hardware (wireless) and when I have to enter the name of the card I don't see my card. On other OSes, I used ndiswrapper, but I wasn't able to install it on CentOS (dependencies required and it's hard with only a USB key to install the stuff...) How to see if the card is recognized, if I have to use ndiswrapper and so on. I have an internal PCI network card also, maybe it is this card which is recognized.

Fedora Networking :: Replacement Wifi Card - Dell Mini 10v?

The problem is the tiny Dell has a tiny place to put the card and according to Dell and Broadcom, it is a "halfcard", which I have no idea what that is.

Ubuntu Networking :: Ralink Wireless G Pcmcia Wifi Card

I just purchased a RALINK WIRELESS G PCMCIA WIFI CARD VISTA/LINUX (UBUNTU)‏.
It is supposed to be UBUNTU plug and play out of the box with no driver downloads needed.

I installed it but could not find a way to search the active Wi-Fi networks available like on my Actiontec card on windows xp. The wireless router/ethernet I have is an Actiontec setup for Qwest-DSL and Actiontec is the name of the wireless network.

Strangely I tried to choose setup a "new network" and entered Actiontec as the network name and it found the network and said it was connected to it. However the internet still is not working?

Ubuntu Networking :: A Good Replacement WIFI Card For A Wind U90?

I LOVE Ubuntu, but the sketchiness with WIFI in Ubuntu is really frustrating (not that it's Ubuntu or GNU/Linux's fault necessarily). I'm trying to find a good WIFI card replacement for my girlfriend's MSI Wind u90, but seems both the Intel 3945abg and the Intel 4965agn - the cards usually recommended for that model - seem to be spotty at best in all recent versions of Ubuntu including the last long-term release. Has anyone had success with a Broadcom 1020 (in any laptop but especially in a netbook)?
