I bought the modem above (ZTE MF627), which works great in Windows 7. My laptop dual boots between Windows 7 and Fedora 12, so I rebooted into Fedora and spent a few hours trying to get the modem working. Scouring the Ubuntu forums (as there's only one post on these forums and it simply didn't work), I found a few possible solutions, but nothing seems to be solving the problem. Here goes... The modem gets picked up by the kernel and appears as a USB device.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have successfully configured my Mobile Broadband (USB 3G/HSDPA modem) via NetworkManager.Both SmartBro & Globe Tattoo, (these are both providers in the Philippines) connect successfully to their respective networks but my observation is the connection is slow if we are to benchmark these connections running on M$ Windows.
Is there any tweak available to enable the connection speed to improve? I know that there are other factors that affect the connection such as the signal and PC speed. I am currently using a brand new Intel Atom netbook.
The original post was mostly rubbish, an example of me trying to find patterns in seemingly random events and coming up with the wrong conclusions. I have therefore deleted the full text, and am starting over again.
There were two problems using this modem in UNR 10.04 that I have identified to date:
1. I had USB_ModeSwitch installed, and this interfered with ubuntu which already knows how to switch the modem. I needed to un-install USB_ModeSwitch to get it to work.
2. The modem registered four /dev/ttyUSBx ports, one of which was for SMS messages and this was incorrectly being identified as the modem port. I had to add this entry to /lib/udev/rules.d/77-mm-zte-port-types.rules or sometimes the network manager connects to the AUX port.
I am now able to connect reliably.
I made a Ubuntu server and it is pretty cool. I had a windows computer that I could copy and paste files to and from over the network. What you did is just find it in My Network and the files were available there. How do I make Ubuntu or Samba act like that?

View 2 Replies View Relatedi installed the free PacketIX vpn client on my ubuntu 9.04. it created a virtual network adapter, i was able to configure and connect to the VPN service but when i add a default route to the routing table so that all internet traffic goes through the VPN, my internet connection stops working until i remove the line i added.

I have ubuntu 9.10 and my wireless connection has been working perfectly until a few weeks ago when I updated my laptop. I can connect to the internet using my wired cable but not by wireless. There is nothing listed under my wireless list. I am new to this and have been unsuccessful in getting my wireless connection going again. I don't even know were to begin. I have a 2wire modem also.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to make a Huawei K3715 HSDPA modem work in Ubuntu 10.04.1. I plug it in, and it loads two mass storage devices (one CDRom containing the Windows software, and one 2GB drive that appears empty), but I don't really know where to go from here.
Note that I replaced the stock network manager with Wicd, as I find it more reliable in picking up wifi connections. I'm not sure if it's suitable for connecting the HSPA modem though.
I have 2 (some future machines will have 4) ethernet ports. I'm trying to make a DHCP server work on my CentOS 5.4 box, but I have placed it on another subnet than the one that it is going to serve. I use a helper address on my router to make the the DHCP requests being routed to the DHCP server on the other subnet.

I'm having trouble getting compiz to work on my Laptop. It worked for a while and then I turned on Shift Switcher and a message popped up saying..."The new value for the button binding for the action Terminate in plugin Shift Switcher conflicts with the action Zoom Window of the Scale Addons plugin. Do you wish to disable Zoom Window in the Scale Addons plugin?" I was given the option of Set Terminate anyway, Don't set Terminate, and Disable Zoom Window. I clicked Don't set Terminate and ever since the only thing that works in compiz are the bindings in the general options. I've used synaptic to completely remove and then reinstall compiz but the problem persist. Something else weird, all of the changes I made are still there, even after complete removal, but they don't work?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI just recently (about an hour ago) installed Ubuntu Netbook edition on my old laptop, and I was greeted with the message, that unity could not be run due to some sort of missing driver...fair enough, I was then greeted with the default Ubuntu desktop, I installed all my needed software (wine, google chrome) and installed the missing display drivers. I then rebooted the system, and once again I am stuck with the default desktop, and not the Unity interface. I checked the software center, and it says Unity IS in fact installed.. And yet I cannot make it appear. So now I ask you Ubuntu veterans. How do I make it work?
P.S. I wiped the system of windows, and the computer is an old HP Pavilion DV6000
