Security :: Allowing Dyndns Client - Update Iptables Frequently?

Sep 11, 2010

I am using dyndns to keep track of my smartphone's ip address. The idea is to be able to ssh into my home network, protected by an iptables firewall. If I use the command: # iptables -I INPUT 9 -s myname.dyndns.org -p tcp -m tcp --dport 22 -j ACCEPT it updates using the current ip address, but the next time I get an ip address update to my phone and update dyndns to properly provide nslookups, this is not being updated in iptables unless I restart my firewall. Is there a better way to do this?

Networking :: Configure Torrent Client To Use Particular Interface

Jun 30, 2010

I am using two ethernet interface, in fact one ethernet interface eth0 and other is USB netconenct ppp0. I am using fedora 12 - 32 bit. I can individually use both connections. say if I disconnect ppp0 (wvdialer), everything works fine and same in other case. Now my problem is I want torrent client to use ppp0 and all other applications like firefox and other use eth0. So that I can use both interfaces effectively.

I changed in ktorrent client's configuration, and change interface to ppp0 from all interface, but it didnt work. When my eth0 id down I can ping using ppp0, but when eth0 is also up, I can ping via eth0 but not via ppp0 (ping xxxxx -I interface). What is I am doing wrong? How can I configure torrent client to use ppp0?

Networking :: Configure Cisco VPN Client To Be Used With SOHO Routers?

Feb 4, 2010

I have got different clients with different SOHO routers on sites (Netgear , Linksys, SnapGear, etc.) All those clients use VPN IPSec . As you know that those routers has many entries :

Tunnel name
key lifetime
Preshared Secret
Phase 1 proposal
Phase 2 Proposal etc.

I am trying to familiarize myself to use different VPN clients (a piece of software ), that will be installed on clients, laptops to access their work network from home. I came across a problem with Cisco VPN client V5.0.06 I could not find all the above entries. I know Cisco devices are proprietary, does that mean cisco vpn client is not compatible with those router?

Ubuntu Networking :: Use A Dyndns Hostname To Connect To Server

Apr 9, 2010

I've recently set up an Ubuntu server and from within the network I can do several things like: log in via SSH, transfer files via FTP, and remotely control Torrents from other computers. My end goal is to be able to access these services by using my dyndns hostname (example.dyndns.org)from an external network.

When I type my dyndns name in my web browser it opens up my router page. How would I set things up so that I can just type my dyndns hostname to point directly to my server, instead of the router page?

All computers are connected to a router which is connected to an ADSL modem, with automatically assigned I.P addresses.

Ubuntu Networking :: DynDNS Site Works In Windows 7 ?

I've only installed Ubuntu 10.04 Server yesterday, and it was the first time I had ever used it. As far and I can tell I have my Apache server up and running. When I go to localhost I get the 'It works!' page.

I tried checking my port in Windows, after I have Xampp loaded up, it says the port is working fine, and the site loads up properly, which leads me to believe the problem not in my router.

I've installed ddclient and put the proper information in as far as I can see but it still doesn't work. I've been testing my port here: [url]

And here is what I have in my ddclient.conf:

Ubuntu Networking :: Draytek Vigor 2710n VPN And DynDns

Mar 4, 2011

I'm trying to create a VPN-Tunnel so that I can access my home-LAN via internet. I've got a Draytek Vigor 2710n Router and a T-Online Internet connection.

For the reason, that my WAN IP changes about every 24h, I've registered at www.dyndns.org. When I've understood dyndns correctly, my router tells my ddns host, which WAN IP it has and my VPN clients requests this IP from the ddns host? What ever, I activated DynDns and created an account. Provider is dyndns.org, type is dynamic. Domain name is XXXX.dyndns.org. Username and password is set as given by www.dyndns.org. When connecting and checking the log, it seems to work as the result is:

"DDNS is updating
A= "username", H="address given by dyndns.org", U=1
Connecting to the DDNS server
Return Code= good (IP Adress)
Updated successfully."

Anyway, I'd like to start with PPTP, because it seems to be the easiest and most compatible solution (although not the savest).

I'll begin with my router's setup. I've activated PPTP VPN Service. Dial-In Authentication is PAP or CHAP. Dial-In Encryption is Optional-MPPE. Mutual Authentication is off. Next is the Dial-In Users setting. I've created an account. Timeout is 0. Dial-In Type is PPTP. Username and password is configured. That should be all concerning the router.

Now, I'm trying Ubuntu 10.10 to create the VPN tunnel. Gateway is XXXX.dyndns.org Username and password as setup in the router's menu. Authentication method is MSCHAP and MSCHAPv2. Use Point-to-Point encryptions is activated. Security is Default and Allow stateful encryptions is activated as well. Next 3 checkboxes are unchecked and Send PPP echo packets is activated.

Well, it doesn't work. I must admit, I'm a noob at VPN, but I really don't have a clue, what I'm doing wrong. Perhaps you can tell me?

PPTP VPN to my university via Ubuntu works.

OpenSUSE :: Skype Alternative - Client With Good Video And Voice Quality

Jun 16, 2010

I am looking for a good alternative to Skype. I would like to have video and voice calls with a family member who uses MS XP but would like to avoid Skype if possible. Does anyone know of a good client with good video and voice quality that will work on both platforms. I'd like it to use open standards so at least we can use different OS specific clients if one is not available for both platforms. Googling hasn't yielded much and some of the results refer to really old (~2006) articles or apps. I hope I'm not doomed to using Skype. I've resisted so long with using SIP clients for voice but am stumped now that I want to include video.

Networking :: Configure A (openSUSE) Client To Dhcp To EBox DHCP Server - Lease An IP Address

Mar 25, 2010

I am puzzled with trying to configure a linux (openSUSE) client to dhcp to eBox DHCP server. I am using dhclient to lease an IP address with dhclient eth0 -s 10.45.48.108 and get a response

openSUSE11232CL1 dhclient: DHCPDISCOVER on eth0 to 10.45.48.108 port 67 interval 4
openSUSE11232CL1 dhclient: DHCPOFFER from 10.45.48.108
openSUSE11232CL1 dhclient: DHCPREQUEST on eth0 to 10.45.48.108 port 67
openSUSE11232CL1 dhclient: send_packet: Network is unreachable
openSUSE11232CL1 dhclient: send_packet: please consult README file regarding broadcast address.

The server reports eBox141 dhcpd: DHCPDISCOVER from 00:0c:29:3e:57:a3 (openSUSE11232CL1.domain.net) via eth0
eBox141 dhcpd: DHCPOFFER on 10.45.200.2 to 00:0c:29:3e:57:a3 (openSUSE11232CL1.domain.net) via eth0

I interpret this as the server receives the request and the client accepting it but the lease does not last long and the connection breaks. what this could be and why the connection breaks? Or my undestanding is totally wrong on how it works and should work? And BTW, where is that README file that's referenced in the message I receive on the client?

Ubuntu Servers :: Cannot Configure NUT UPS Client

May 16, 2010

I am running Ubuntu Server Lucid 64bit on an AMD-based system and Ubuntu Server Lucid x86 on a dual P4 HP Netserver. I have a Trust PW-4120M UPS plugged into the AMD box via a serial cable.I have installed nut on both systems from the repositories (with "apt-get instal nut") and configured the AMD system as follows:

#ups.conf
[trustups]
driver = megatec

[code]....

I've tried every adjustment to the config files I can think of but without success. I'm guessing this is a permissions issue but I've been unable to find any info on this after extensive searching of Google. As far as I can tell (ie. I've not installed one!) there's no firewall operating on either machine.
